The main change to the museum that the public will notice is the entrance.

The front doors now face on to Millennium Place instead of Hales Street - and the ultra-modern frontage should help the museum stop being something of a secret.

There are changes inside as well, with the addition of more galleries, better visitor facilities and new exhibitions on hand to show Coventry's importance in world motoring.

Among the new galleries is the Introductory Gallery, which details the imoportance of Coventry's heritage and the size of the museum's collection.

The museum's Walk Through Time exhibit, which details the city's role in motor manufacture since the 1860s will also be completed with the addition of a gallery devoted to the demise of the industry in the 80s and 90s.

The new interactive Futures Gallery continues to story with a glimpse into the crystal ball and takes a look at what we may see in the future, while visitors will also get a chance to design their own transport of the future.

Temporary exhibitions have also be introduced and existing displays like the Blitz Experience and the Spirit of Speed Gallery - which highlights the work city engineers played in the shattering of land speed records - will still be in place.

From stunt driving to spectacular skate-boarding and BMX stunts, the launch event demonstrated just how much fun you can have on wheels!

There was an entertainment roadshow, featuring bands, competitions, giveaways and a display of movie cars and their lookalike stars, from James Bond and Austin Powers to Lara Croft.

The real highlight, however, was the spectacular unveiling of the new museum entrance, put together by one of the UK's leading special effects companies, who have worked on films like Tomorrow Never Dies, The Mummy and Gladiator!

The museum will be open every day from 10am to 5pm and admission is free.
