The city's annual free festival in the War Memorial Park will stretch from Friday, 6 June to Sunday, 8 June with two and half days of free entertainment.

Mick Emerson, one of the festival organisers from CV One, said: "This year we are putting on the widest range of high quality acts ever and have built in an International dimension with the inclusion of Chinese opera from one of our twin cities, Jinan.

"The Godiva Festival is rapidly becoming one of the best free festivals in the Midlands and we'd encourage everyone to come along and try it!"

Horsemen will be jousting in the park
Coventry's historic Godiva Procession, which has origins dating back to 1678, starts Saturday's entertainment at 11am when it leaves the cathedral ruins and winds its way to the Memorial Park.

The procession will include Lady Godiva on horseback flanked by mounted knights and a host of civic, community and historical groups.

Saturday's music promises to be hot, with up-and-coming indie rock bands and hip-hop, contrasting wildly with another highlight, the Beijing Opera.

The day will also have jugglers and comedians, a local history fair, environmental activities, live jousting, fun activities for kids, craft and charity stalls and a fun fair.

Sunday will see the return of the hugely-popular classic car motorcade, showing the best of Coventry's motoring history.

Back in the War Memmorial Park, the fun fair and most of Saturday's activities will continue, accompanied by more mellow folk and African music.
