Medicate and Circulate are open to the public from 14 September - 10 November 2002.
They are part of a programme of exhibitions and events linked to the history of the Royal Pump Rooms and the medical treatments carried out there for nearly 200 years.
The programme aims to develop a dialogue between artists and scientists.
Medicate

Medicate is a major new collection of contemporary art examining our relationship with medical science. It includes internationally acclaimed work by Damien Hirst, Keith Coventry, Tania Kovats, Alexa Wright and Lyndall Phelps.
The Last Supper, a monumental work by controversial artist Damien Hirst, is just one of the works to be unveiled in Medicate.
The Last Supper explores illness, death, food, art, religion and consumerism through 13 subtly manipulated images of packaging for pharmaceutical drugs.

Keith Coventry's cast of a Ventolin inhaler looks like a life-saver, but on closer inspection this common medical aid has been modified to make a crack cocaine pipe.
Alexa Wright's series 'I' confronts society's attitudes to beauty, the body and disability. Silence by Lyndall Phelps explores surgical craft and the roles of men and women in medicine.
Circulate
Circulate is new video work by Jordan Baseman, resulting from a residency at Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire.
Jordan's recent works take the form of semi-narrative poetic films and are concerned with questions of truth, beauty and the human condition.

Since May of this year Jordan Baseman has been collaborating with Francis Wells, a leading heart and lung surgeon at Papworth Hospital. The artist has had access to events and experiences which are awesome in their potential to change lives, and yet largely unknown to the majority of the population.
During the residency Jordan has collected over 100 hours of video footage; gathering images and information from people, from the operating theatre and from the hospital.
This footage will be formed into brand new works, shown to the public for the first time simultaneously at the Royal Pump Rooms and Wysing Arts.
