Surfers in the Snow 5

Lewis and Jack Clinton from Newquay have spent a week away from the waves learning the art of snowboarding. Throughout their break the brothers have kept a diary on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Cornwall website. Did they master the sport...Find out in their last diary.

Our time in Tignes is nearly done - but we're going out in a blaze of glory. The weather's picked up and our snowboarding's picked up - so it was time to mix it up with the big boys.

Top-level instructor Ed Clarke came over from Val d'Isere again - and so did Brad Masters. He's a world-class photographer from Australia, but these days he's based in Val in the winter and in Indonesia in the summer. Brad comes from a surfing background, so we had heaps in common immediately.

We went up the mountain to get some shots. Ed and Brad soon had us going over a jump and then we played around on the piste while Brad took pictures. After lunch (bought by Ed - thanks, mate!), we bumped into Neil McNair, who's snowboarding director for the British Association of Snowsports Instructors, and his amazing dog - a husky called Callie that he takes riding with him.

We brought him up to date on how we've been getting on then we relocated to what's become our favourite jumps spot. With Brad's help, we built a jump that was bigger and better than anything we've previously attempted. It was sick and Brad got some excellent shots of us pulling tricks. We must have been there for a couple of hours. It was so good.

Lewis builds an igloo...

When we got back to the hotel, we were a bit overexcited and Lewis decided to build himself a little iglo in the snow. It looked quite cosy, even if passers-by thought he'd lost the plot. We can't believe it's Friday already and it's nearly time to go home.

We have absolutely loved snowboarding. It's different to surfing in many ways, but we've enjoyed the challenge and we need to get back on it soon. Thanks to all the guys from Mark Warner Holidays who have made us so welcome here, and to Ed and Brad for taking the time to ride with us.

Massive thanks to you guys for reading our blog as well.
Jack and Lewis
