Summary of complaint
We received complaints from viewers who thought Nina Warhurst inaccurately stated that nurses had accepted a 5% pay offer, during an item discussing the junior doctor strikes that were planned for the following week.
Our response
During an exchange between Nina Warhurst and Dr Mike Greenhalgh, Co-Deputy Chair of the BMA junior doctors committee, Nina commented that nurses had accepted a 5% pay offer: βwhen you look at nurses, for example, and other medical staff who have settled at 5% for the year as well as the one-off payment from last year will you meet them at a lower point and people will be asking, why not if the nurses have?β.
This was incorrect and we apologise for this unfortunate error.
At the time of broadcast nurses were still voting on whether to accept a pay offer from the government. This was clarified by Charlie Stayt later on in the programme when Dr Greenhalghβs interview was revisited.
