Good luck keeping up with this one. This is where rock and roll gets random in the most brilliant and precise way. The Mars Volta have always forged their own path, built their sense of melody but their craft has often been over looked. This one gets the balance just right, a suitable Hottest Record from a truly original band.
And their records always sound so awesome! Comments please...

I have a strange relationship with this band. I appreciate what they're about and what they're trying to do and sometimes I can really get into it. Some of their melodies are indeed awesome as Zane says but they often go a bit too far for me. I can be really getting into a track and then it'll just go into random noises for 5 minutes at the end.
This track does get the balance right though and I really like it. Bet there's a 12 minute version on the album though :)
At the risk of seeming to contradict myself though, I really wish they'd push themselves a bit further. This track and many of their others sound like they could have easily appeared on that first album. I don't think they progress that much between albums which is a shame. You'd think a band with this much talent and creativity could effectively reinvent their sound with each release.
However, I like this track :)
