So, we’re at the end of yet another series – the sixth - of . Six audience recordings, as many incredibly late Tuesday nights script-editing, a writing workshop for the JestingAbout-ers in Newcastle and a webchat have all been and gone.
And because the only things we at Newsjack love more than jokes are NUMBERS and FACTS, here are a few statistics:
As you may already know, the basis of our script is formed from material submitted by the public via email. Roughly half the emails we receive will have 3 sketches attached. The other half will have about 10 one-liners attached. ÌýWe received anything between 481 and 675 emails in any one week this series. So, each week, the team will read an average of 802 sketches and 5350 one-liners.
One thing that is really important to stress at this point: Everything that is sent in is read. No matter how bad, mad or downright offensive. It’s all read. Ìý

When you’ve been reading stuff solidly all day and have spent the last 30 minutes without raising a smile, to open a document which makes you laugh out loud is brilliant. We’ve had some great stuff sent in, as the numbers below will attest to - here's a breakdown on a week-by-week basis of emails received and programme credits:
Ep 1: 539 emails received. 26 credits, of which 21 were non-com.
Ep 2: 675 emails received. 27 credits, of which 21 were non-com.
Ep 3: 606 emails received. 21 credits, of which 16 were non-com.
Ep 4: 512 emails received. 24 credits, of which 18 were non-com.
Ep 5: 481 emails received. 27 credits, of which 21 were non-com.
Ep 6: 399 emails received. 24 credits, of which 21 were non-com.
Across the series, we transmitted the work of 102 writers. 86 of those were non-com.Ìý However, we actually RECORDED work by 170 separate writers - 150 of them were non-com.
