Last to leave the party

organ_grinder_203.jpg STUTTGART - Outside of the passion and pain on the pitch, it is the little things that catch your eye as the world’s cultures collide at this tournament.

The last guests to leave England’s post-match party were dancing in the streets as I walked back through the city’s main square in the early hours.

The strains of Football’s Coming Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ and "1-0 to the Arsenal" sounded bizarre coming out of the pipes on a traditional German wind-up organ.

The sight of a dozen England fans dancing around the grinder looked even stranger. He didn’t seem to mind though.

About 30,000 fans watched the game here earlier, in a boisterous but peaceful atmosphere.

These lads were the only ones left and, while the tunes were still coming, looked likely to stay for a while.

Sounds like fun - I'm so jealous, wish I could be there for the party! Being a non-qualifying Scot in the middle of non-qualifying Russia, I feel a million miles away from the action, not really too much interest about. :( Keep up the great blog Claire!

Sounds a lot more exciting than watching it back home - was pretty deflated after the match. Keep up the great work on the blog Claire!

Talking about party: According to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad today some 28,000 people called in sick and are staying at home from work in order to digest their departure from the 2006 World Cup.

Personally, even though I'm German I feel very, very sorry for the Dutch. I wished they could have stayed a bit longer (well, they'll be back causing traffic jams on German motorways as soon as their holiday season starts)...
