Green Man wins major festival award

After some years of growth and critical praise, the Green Man festival has won a major prize at the .

The Crickhowell-based festival picked up the gong for 'Best Medium Festival' at the award ceremony last night.

Jo Bartlett, of , started the festival when she and her partner Danny moved to mid Wales. She told us: "We are so chuffed to win this prestigious award. It's obviously the culmination of many years hard work and the result of a great team effort.
"It's always especially pleasing to win such an award when it's voted for by the people that come to Green Man.Thanks to everyone who voted. It's already making us look forward so much to 2011!"
The award is a vindication of years of hard graft, astute booking and a non-commercial atmosphere which has made the festival a favourite of indie, folk and left-field music fans, leading to a growth in capacity seemingly not to the detriment of its carefully-crafted ambience. It's really nice to see a Welsh event succeed on its own terms and gain recognition in this way.

Even though it has grown since relocating from Hay On Wye it still retains quite a small festival vibe, and the new location is stunning. The amenities are well tended and it's a great place for for a family weekend. It's a pity dogs aren't allowed, but then again you can't rely on all dog owners to clean up after their dogs, so... The is consistently good and quite varied for a smallish festival, and the best thing is you can have a great time, safe in the knowledge that your tent isn't being robbed (unlike some other festivals). Well done Jo and Danny.
