This week, Steve analyses an eventful end to the January transfer window and discussesΒ how the lack of money trickling down to the Football League from the big-spenders in the Premier League makes life difficult for cash-strapped clubs.

He looks at Nottingham Forest as an example of a club who used the window to strengthen their squad wisely during the window, and to Preston and Rotherham as sides who battled to keep hold of their best players for very different reasons.

Steve also gives his view on why Derby's Robbie Savage has elected to retire at the end of the season rather than playing lower division football, and reflects on Walsall's surprise 6-1 victory over Bristol Rovers at the bottom of League One.
