How Inside Sport clinched top trio
Hi everyone, thanks for your comments again, many of them were about England's magnificent effort in reaching the and also the subsequent debate over .
It seems odd to many people that the man who took his team to such success shouldn't be given a new contract straightaway.
For others, the rugby authorities are doing the right thing to have a process, a review and wait to decide the future of the coach - and players. On , we knew the minute England reached the final that, win or lose, we would want to try and get some of the boys into the studio to talk to Gabby.
So we deployed our secret weapon - our producer, Matt used to play rugby himself at a very high level and is one of the top producers for the sport here at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.
He has also been making most of the we've been running on the show throughout the competition.
Because he's been over in France a lot, he's been able to keep in touch with many of the players who have known him for a number of years and trust him.
This was a huge advantage for the programme and it was really down to Matt that .
The logisitics were a bit tricky though - first there was going to be a press conference at Heathrow, then one at Twickenham instead which all the players would need to go to.
In the end the conference didn't need to involve our players and Matt, who'd been following them all since they touched down, was finally able to get them into a car to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Television Centre.
It was great of them to give up their time for Inside Sport when they were so very tired and had given so much during their world cup campaign. I hope you all found the interview interesting.

Hooray for Inside Sport! You secured a rather bland interview with three England stars that revealed almost nothing that we didn't already know. Admittedly, Dallaglio's reaction to talk of Ashton receiving an extension to his contract was interesting - but that was about it. The interview was matey, but bland and uninsightful.
Part of the reason for this seems to stem from a problem with the whole show. Inside Sport seems caught between two stools - on the one hand it seems to want to be seen as a Newsnight for sport, yet on the other hand it seems to want to project a flashy (hence the stupid titles and music) and chummy image. The matey side (addressing guests by nicknames) seems to detract from any attempt to shed new light on a topic. The chat with the England trio was a prime example of this - cosey banter, but no real analysis of England's performance (perhaps so as to avoid alienating fair weather rugby fans who would be confused by such a discussion) - either in the final or throughout the tournament. Just buzz words and banter.
If Inside Sport is really to succeed as a television programme, it must really get under the skin of sport. It should aim to be broadsheet sport journalism on TV, not 45 mins of fluff pieces and superficial chat.
The lads gave a good interview with Gabby, and seemed upbeat even after losing in the world cup final. I felt that Brian Ashton wasn't recieiving much support off the lads though, but good to see Andy Gommersal their, he was englands stand out player from the world cup.
2nd hurts but its not as bad as 6th or 7th Its funny but a lot of kiwis may feel differently about the All Blacks now.We can win everything but not the world cup..says a lot about the team physcie..Whe I am watching them in future and I always will there will be this world cup doubt in my mind Can we in 2011?? its a very long wait to find out

i was captivated by the interview you had with the three England rugby players fresh off the plane. i believe engaging them on their thoughts on their roller coaster experience in the world cup put viewers in their shoes and to understand what they went through, good job
It was always my understanding that the blogs were designed to communicate with the readers/viewers on pressing concerns or major developments. Every time I read one of the sports editors blogs, however, there is nothing but self congratulation on the latest scoop. How about some analysis of the willingness of presenters to undermine the England team in the early stages and the jump on the bandwagon later on. Or indeed with football a discussion on the one dimensional punditry that is getting tired. Better yet, why John Motson stil has a job when he's incapable of pronouncing ANY name correctly (presuming he's got the right person in the first place). Stop lauding yourselves Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sport and read some of the more thoughtful posts from the other areas of the website.
Surely the wasps connection via Gabby & Kenny can't have hurt either (rememeber Gomersall started out at Wasps...)?
