Try driving in Palermo in the rush hour, London, even Hangar Lane is a breeze. One question why is petrol going through the roof again? Can we have a NN indepth investigation, and Michael while you are on it can you have a shufty as to how many men in white suits, i.e. Martin Bells are about to run as the exodus of MP's becomes a flood or have things died down and the guilty b......ds think they have got away with it! I know Mr Moat has done one and Mr Steen....'you are jealous of my castle' fame...but the Hazel Blears types are still lurking in the woodwork...get on it....

You didn't seem to get to grips with the question we all wanted answered - what exactly was that car for. Certainly not for getting from A to B in London traffic - there are much better and quicker ways of doing that.
For relaxing in? - forget it - no-one would ever relax for one minute driving that tank around London and you could ceretainly not leave it anywhere unattended. It wouldn't go down into most underground car parks - concrete spirals? Forget it.
Prestige - again no - Michael didn't gain any personal uplift by virtue of being seen in that car - he gets rather more being a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ minor celeb or a recognisable face on the box. All in all, the car just seemed ugly and incongruous as an ill thought out and impractical mode of travel, out of its time, and fully deserving of a dented wing. Next time Michael, try out a Type 2 Volkswagen Camper van - it will keep your drinks cool, provide a double bed to crash out on, has WC and kitchen facilities the RR lacks, and now the height of cool. Moreover it is smaller, will squeeze through gaps, and will get you there quicker.

It was a good debate though. I think trying to get the financial services industry to agree to a sensible remuneration policy is one of those causes properly classed as hopeless.

As far as I am concerned all those high-risk bankers can go and work in Dubai, Singapore, Frankfurt and Zurich among others. They can make another country go bust for all I care so long as they don't do it all here again. We are broke so we just can't afford for it to happen. So the next time someone says `if you don't pay me so-and-so I will walk'; let them walk. The message will get home in the end.

On a connected point when is the government going to get the financial services industry to pay back the massive subsidy the taxpayer has provided to it? Or are they intent on doing a British Leyland on us? Same problem as BL: greedy workforce.

I don't know whether any of you realise this but back in the mid 1980's Rolls-Royce car panels were made on the same presses as Ford Cargo wagon cab doors at Vicker's Elswick works at Newcastle. Said panels were then taken to British Leyland Cowley for assembly into bare metal bodies, then in threes on flat wagons back to Crewe for finishing. You could see them going up the M6 with just sheets covering them is all the salt fallout during the winter, no wonder they were rot boxes.
