Every week on my show, I choose one record that isn't just hot, it's JAM HOT and I play it every day. This week the honour goes to a soulful R&B record with an equally soulful house remix from a soulful UK singer: Vula - If U Want It (Original and Wookie Remixes).
Who is Vula?
- She's a singer/songwriter who's full name is Nomvula Malinga - or Vula for short
- Born in America, moved to the UK when she was a little girl (so we can claim her as one of us!!)
- She's most famous for her work with Basement Jaxx - she not only features on their hits 'Hush Boy' and 'Oh My Gosh' but also tours as part of their band
- She's also collaborated with The Wideboys, No Bizzi (aka Reggie Yates) and MJ Cole
What is 'If U Want It'?
We've been waiting for a long time for some official material from Vula after various guest appearances and blessing 1Xtra with the exclusive cover of Janet Jackson's What Have You Done For Me Lately. Well, the 'If U Want It EP' is finally getting a release (a year after her release party for it!) on 16th June 2008 on her own label - DivaGeek Records. The title track from the 8 track EP is Jam Hot This week.
