Hi Jake. I read on Adam Cooper's blog about Ron Dennis cutting Eddie Jordan off air (literally). Well done Ron.

Thanks for the great coverage of the British Grand Prix. I met you at the Festival of Speed in the Kinrara Enclosure and said thanks for a great show and effort you put into each race.

Great idea ref the Jim Clark memorial - I have wanted to go there myself. But please - take us to the real place of the memorial, the original spot out in the woods where the real track was - Not the site they have moved it too at the side of the new mickey-mouse Hockenheim.

In fact a feature on the old track and the way it looks now would be most welcome. We should be making the most of track that have/had a history. Whilst Hockenheim is a shadow of the great track it was, at least it is a historical site.

Yeah Murray was great on the forum and fair dues for letting him come in with his questions for the guys, was really good chat. Piece with Lewis and Jenson as well, just everything in general, well done!

Good to see that you plan to not just focus on the top teams in Germany. An interview with Frank Williams is a good idea, especially as he's handed chairmanship to Adam Parr (even though privately it occurred months ago). Also good that you want to focus on past incidents at the track, including Jim Clark. Provides a good bit of variety in amongst the chat with people from the top teams.

Disappointed not read anything about Ron Dennis cutting EJ's earpiece wiring on camera...

Loved watching the show sat & sun evenings after returning from the track. I know it may not be the done thing at Silverstone but we would have been proud to have sang the national anthem pre-race. A few voices would have been pathetic but how uplifting if everyone was on "song". How about a campaign for next year?

The atmosphere at the track was electric all weekend, ever better than last year, and long may it continue! Silverstone is hallowed ground and the BRDC have gone above and beyond to ensure it stays on the calender!!
Put as much as you can into the show for Hockenheim as some of us can only manage 1 trip a year and attend the other 18 via the TV!

I second bad_to_the_bone's comment. It would be great to see Jim Clark's memorial as it is now, and the site where it used to be.

I love to learn about the history of F1 and it would be great that when you go to countries like Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain etc to see features on the track itself, with looks at former versions of existing tracks and former F1 venues in that country, and the races that took place on them. Examples: the old longer Spa, longer Hockenheim, the crazy AVUS circuit, Montjuic Park, Mosport, Rouen, Reims, Clermont-Ferrand (three classic tracks just from one country!). Features on historic drivers would be good too.

As a fan who cannot afford to go to the race's the pre and post race information on txt and web has been invaluable to me and feature's like this, other blogs and 606 debate means i can discuss key issue's with other f1 fans and get other people's perspective. also thankyou for introducing me to twitter as this has enabled me to follow my favourate drivers more closley.
basically what you have done this season has made me feel more involved in f1 without being fortunate enough to be there and i cannot thank you enough for that, keep up the great work!

Like always Jake, I enjoyed the coverage. I usually miss qualifying due to working on a saturday, but I'll watch it later on the iPlayer if I can - another fantastic part of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ coverage! I agree with you that the British Grand Prix is always special and I'm so pleased it is staying at Silverstone.

The feature on Jim Clark and his memorial is a top idea, and would be nice if the Lotus team were to be involved in that. But I do wonder what ol' Jim would think of the circuit they call Hockenheim now!

Richard in #19, yes you have to use both sets of tyres during a dry race.

I don't recall any rule that says you have to complete a lap for a set to count, just simply being on them at any point during the race is enough. So based on that Vettel used both sets.

Finally, you have something decent to say about Eddie Jordan - shame you never do it on air.

Perhaps it's the fact that David Coulthard wasn't present???

A question about Dirty Air:

There is a lot of talk in the commentary about cars not being able to follow close because of the dirty air from the car in front.
Why don't teams/car designers come up with the aerodynamics that will increase downforce when in the dirty air. Thus the cars can get closer and possibly overtake. Or would this have the opposite effect when the car is in clean air ?

1. They would never get to that air if they are not set up to be able to run without it as they would never catch anyone.

2. By nature dirty air is far too unpredictable.

As I turned off the red button and looked at the clock, I realised that I'd just watched 4 and half hours of fanatic coverage and how the time flew by!
Yourself and the rest of your team are just coming together so nicely now it's such a pleasure to watch race weekend.
I also loved the fact that Murray bascially took over the forum on Sunday it was lovely to hear from him and to find out what questions were on his mind. And what a mind with all the information he still retains about the GP and other races. Amazing!

i think the teams if they want to improve overtaking, should look at past seasons e.g the 90s there was alot more overtaking then.

Congratulations Jake on what was brilliant TV. I don't think I could have enjoyed it more without being there. It has to be the best GP this year for me and the coverage has a lot to do with that.

Good show on the silverstone GP. In your plan to visit the Jim Clark memorial, it's good to see an interest in some of the history around F1. Even better, to assist your Frank Williams research/ preparation - try asking him about the pre-Patrick Head days and in particular a driver he had around 1976 - Damien Magee. You'll be demonstrating in-depth research and a detailed grasp of the williams story facts! I I bet you EJ knows of Damien too. all the best.

hi jake, as always, well done to your team for the best commentery on tv. i have just one complaint though and it is when the drivers go around on the drivers parade that is the only chance of ever seeing our idols in the flesh and last week at silverstone i was most annoyed as when my idol went by (lewis) he had his back to us being interviewed by your reporter and half the drivers where stood chatting away to each other. to me it shows nothing but contempt for the fans, would alonso have done this in his beloved spain? i think not.

Hi Jake, excellent reflection on what was an AWESOME weekend. I was there just for race day and the fans created such an atmosphere.

There is no other sport where 'rival' fans can get together and chat with one another!

Silverstone organised this year's race better than ever. The last time I attended was 2006 and this was good but no where near as good as this year's race.

Just the drive down from Birmingham was no problem and the day just got better and better than excepted.

Jake we all appreciate that you are an early adopter, but either use your iPad or put the wretched thing down somewhere! Surely you don't need an security blanket at your age.Any information you need can come via the ear piece,going back to DC's remarks about second division teams I seem to recall that it wasn't long ago that he was trundling around trying to make a bad car better. Let's face it if he hadn't lucked into two of the best teams at their peak he would only be remembered as a journeyman driver. Very good racer but not in the class of others at the time!

What a brilliant weekend. I was sitting in the terraces at Abbey watching the drivers learn it during first practice - some of the most fascinating track action I've ever seen. The sense of occasion on Friday was amazing, everyone overjoyed to be back at Silverstone after the dark times last autumn.

What has always impressed me about the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ coverage is that you manage to project the atmosphere of every GP into our living rooms - a difficult task executed with great professionalism and enthusiasm. We F1 fans have never had it so good.

As a side note, I was intrigued by your comment that Sir Frank Williams is paralysed from the neck down, as I thought I had clear memories of seeing him moving his hands at times whilst talking, and wheeling his chair manually.

Some research suggests he's actually paralysed from the chest down and does have use, albeit limited, of his hands and arms.

Anyway, I hope to see his teams resurgence continue, it would be great to see Williams once again challenging for world titles as per the glory days I remember whilst growing up!

Can you be sure to ask Seb why he does not want to race his team mate with like for like equipment, I rate him highly as a driver and wanted him to win the title this year until this debarcle with Webber.

Redbull own goal or not, the drivers need to know that real racers drive the cars to the limit not limit the cars of their peers.

Talk of Germany and Memorials got me thnking about Bernd Rosemeyer. I was born over 30 years after his death yet he has become somewhat of a hero of mine. Now there is a German based story to tell! His memorial is on the Frankfurt-Darmstadt Autobahn near the Morfelden crossing (if my memory serves).

Just did a wiki search: It is located at the Rosemeyer rest stop (German: "Bernd-Rosemeyer-Parkplatz") on kilometer marker 508 of the Autobahn 5 A5 Frankfurt-Heidelberg southbound just past the Langen/Mörfelden off-ramp.

Must admit when i heard f1 was going to the bbc i didnt like the sound of that after so long on itv wow how wrong was i. Between you david,eddie and martin its gone to another level and the forum i just fantastic it really gets us fans involved and in the know what goes on behind the scenes because we did feel a little less important when the show wasnt on the bbc.
anyway thanks for all the good work please dont change a thing it is perfect.

Hi Jake, Great productions from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ so far this season but I do think the TV experience would be greatly enhanced by HD. Is there nothing the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ can do to get Bernie to be a bit more up to date. So many other sports do HD including a number of motorsports. Porsche Supercup for one which follows the F1 circus doesn't it?

Im getting over the race weekend and now getting ready for the weekend coming!
I loved the whole coverage and knew some people who where staying in the campsite so was also raking the crowds trying to see someone I knew!! I loved seeing Murray back on form both in the run up and on the forum. He is such a natural and has the most fantastic knowledge!
I was so excited about the race too.. so much palavar and silly politics but in the end a blazing good race in my humble opinion. I have a group of mates that all text during the race and I busted over 120 and had some serious screaming phone calls at poinent moments. (the opening laps where fabulous drama).

Again, high fives and back slaps to all involved. I am loving this season and it looks like its gonna be so very exciting with the races to come.

Hopefully chat to you a bit sooner after the coming race!!

Amongst the frankfurters snitzels and giant sausages Mark Von Vebber will relish the land of the steins.Forget the Fosters blue this is where a drunken German will buy a stranger a pint.If Webber was a cat he would be down to 7 lives after a terrible bicycle accident and a horror show in Valencia.Red Bull have the car to win races and Sebastian Vettel the darling of German F1 will be hoping his luck starts to change whilst sparks fly across the Red Bull motor home Lewis and Jenson can capitalise on the dissharmony amongst Christian Horner's outfit.Will we see the McLarens with the new diffuser can they gain the momentum by qualifying on pole.Hockenheim like most tracks has been slowed down by chicanes but the famous grandstands will be awash with Germans blowing their horns licking their lengthy moustaches and clinking their steins.

Can we have a 606 special on Five Live on F1 sometime this season!

Just a question after qualifying, taking into consideration Ferrari's sudden increase in pace:
Red Bull have dominated qualifying this season, as we all know, but have struggled in races to convert them, and McLaren have capitalised wonderfully. Should McLaren be worried about the Ferrari's given that they are traditionally better in the race than in qualifying, and now they have Alonso on the front row and Massa on the 2nd row and looking good for tomorrow?

Also, I disagree with Jonathon Legard's comment in qualifying 3 today that the last time Ferrari had a 1-2 in qualifying, was in France 2008. I believe that Alonso got 2nd on the grid in that race. The last Ferrari 1-2 I remember was in Monaco 08 with Massa in front of Raikkonen.

Watching practice yesterday and seeing the water drain off the land surrounding the track, and the mayhem it caused, I want to ask this:

Why don't circuits in wet countries, have those hidden drains with the drainage 'slots' at the side of the track. This would help prevent water getting onto the track and speed drying. Racing in the rain is something that sets F1 skills apart from Indy NASCAR etc. But the odd really wet area on track can really cause insurmountable problems...

Question for the tech team: When a car is damaged (eg Adrian Sutil) in qualifying and has to be rebuilt overnight, what technologies are used to establish that the parts that are going to be used from the damaged vehicle are all clear for use? Is any imaging technology used to show that the part is undamaged, straight, and not fatigued in any way?
Would be interesting to find out!

I totally disagree with what happened to massa i think ferrari should have something done for effectively breaking the rules. massa was the clear winner . if the fia do find ferrari guilty then they shouild change 1st and 2nd place and keep vettel in third place because he would have never caught up anyway.

This was never a matter of money and super rich Ferrari must be laughing at the $100,000 fine. Surely if a team so blatantly manipulates the result of a race then that result should not stand. I feel sorry for Massa but don't agree the result should be reversed, willing or not he conspired to alter the outcome.

It's a sorry day for F1 and I can't for the life of me understand why people inside the sport as well as some fans are trying to justify Ferrari's actions.

The rule is there, 39.1, enforce it as it was intended after the debacle of Austria 2002 and punish those that would bring this sport into direpute.

Sorry Downforce. I miss read the number of 00 in the fine....it's not heavy enough!!
Whilst not about the money, sanction of a heavy fine....ie the $50,000,000 Mclaren got fined for spygate would act as a deterrent to a greater degree. My desire for the the result to be rectified is due to people who may have bet on the outcome.... I did not by the way! Fixing the result of football matches carries heavy penalties not just from governing bodies but criminal penalties.....not that I am saying their are betting irregularities here either...just drawing a simile between fixing results in 2 professional sports!!!
Personally I do not think sanction against individuals would be fair as they are all essentially employees of a large corporation and it is corporate not sporting interest that was served today!
I also think the rule should be abandoned at the end of the season as unpoliceable, it only came to light as a result of the clumsy way Ferrari did it. But as a current rule has been broken, that Ferrari need penalising in a way that is meaningful!

i think ferrari should be banned for at least 1 race because of what they did in the race, it was team orders anybody with half a brain can see that, "SHAME ON YOU FERRARI" you need to be taught a lesson on fair play.

watched the German F1 race which was a disgrace and then I watched a documentary about Senna by Top Gear... those guys where in a different league.. to top it all I caught the tail end of Moto GP at Laguna where a certain Valentino Rossi pulled one of the most glorious over-takings to get third despite the left side of his body aching like hell. So I wonder what is it that makes someone as talented as Alonso to want a free passage and more puzzling why Ferrari engage in this when they don't need to

So here is what I think could resolve this.

The stuarts should be given the power to request clarification of any comms which in their opinion is likely to result in a position swap between team mates. This should happen within two laps including the response.

If the clarification is not within the strict understanding of the rule then BOTH cars
get a stop go penalty which must result in the reversing of the swap.

There should be a two strike per team and you are out for a race over the course of season.

By placing equal responsibility on both drivers contractual agreement will become very difficult to keep not least because the manufacture will also loose valuable points and this affects the large sponsors who may be putting pressure on teams.

In the event that in the last race of the season it is mathematically possible for a team mate to win the championship by a position being gifted to them by the team mate then it should be down to the drivers to let the stuarts know prior to the race start

The FIA could also take additional action after the race.

I appreciate what Martin Brundle said about the old Hockenheim, but I'm afraid I greatly preferred it to the present one, which produced a dull race on Sunday, yet again. The contrast between the long straights and the stadium section used to create more excitement, as with Alan Jones versus the Renaults in the early 1980s. Never mind, at least it'll be at the Nurburgring next year, which is vastly superior.

I'm certainly not a fan of Ferrari in Formula 1 and never was, making my enthusiasm for Gilles Villeneuve difficult to reconcile. It is easy to understand why they wanted Alonso to finish ahead of Massa, but it is not at all easy to accept their flagrant disregard for a rule that was brought into force because of the team's behaviour in the past.In the current economic climate, controversy is unwelcome in a sport trying to make us all forget what went on last season. It seems one or two teams are already struggling to find backers for next year and this will not help.

Though I would prefer Vettel not be handed the win on a plate, I would throw Ferrari out of the German Grand Prix for their actions, but their improved performance has made the championship even more uncertain, so I doubt that will be allowed to happen. How much influence Ecclestone enjoys over the World Council I have no idea, but a strong Ferrari team always seems to be of great importance to the sport.

Whoever said it's all about following a team? I don't go for that. I follow a driver.
My fave driver of the past was Mansell, current fave is Hamilton and one to look out for as from next year (if he gets a good car)...Petrov.
If you follow (whoever) are you really bothered who he drives for just so long as he is a racer?

Nice job Mark! Once again, he's shown RBR that Vetel isn't the golden boy they'd like him to be. MArk is a mature driver, superb strategist and can put the work in when under pressure. RBR need to rethink their position compared to Vetel's inconsistency...

Team Orders!! I Hate them... I've been watching F1 for over twenty years, and team orders have always left a sour taste in my mouth. But what can the FIA really do about them? In my opinion not much except perhaps overhauling the way in which teams and drivers win championships!

A topic for debate:

question...How could F1 Constructors be encouraged to focus on their own championship whilst simultaneously be kept from interfering with the Drivers Championship?

Why not remove points from the Drivers championship!! The constructors championship could have their points doubled. Drivers championships could then be won on three criteria...Firstly WINS...i know i know..but what if more than one driver have a similar numbers of wins?? Well, should one of those drivers be the reigning world champ, he should retain his title as no other driver has succeeded in beating him! If not, then a second criteria should come into play....PODIUMS ie coupled with wins how many times has each driver had a podium finish. Should, after that, there is still more than one driver on level pegging...then a third criteria..CONSTRUCTOR POINTS SCORED!

A championship based on something like this would,in my opinion, encourage the drivers to race for wins instead of settling for points at each and every race.
By doubling constructor points could allow teams to ensure supplying their drivers with equal equipment, to enable them to compete for those wins without too much undue politics and favouritism. Although teams would still aim for one/two finishes but after all, with that many points up for grabs, would they really care which of their driver wins as long as it was one of them??
