SNP falling short?

For now, of course, we're only getting constituencies.

And it looks - maybe, perhaps - as if the SNP may fall short of their ambition of taking 20 new seats.

However, gossip - and it is just that at this stage - suggests that the SNP may be performing well on the top-up regional list by contrast with 2003 where they slumped badly in this section.

Long way to go.

To return to the the issue of turnout and spoilt papers, it's ridiculous that the spoilt papers aren't included in the turn out as those people defeinitely did 'turn out'!

Even if we don't list the number of spoilt papers we should at least include them in the total turnout.

Yes - true, but SNP almost got Airdrie and Shotts - a huge swing to them.

What is more concerning, however, is that the number of spoiled ballot papers is greater than Labour's majority

Question is - do we trust the electronic vote counting system?

Re: Rejected Ballot Papers

I cast my vote in Orkney and thought all the forms, posters were very clear and concise, so I can't understand why so many papers have been rejected.

I also thought the STV system was much superior than just a simple 'X'. It's a pity STV couldn't be used for all the ballot papers as it gives just that little bit more empowerment to voters.

PS: Would the braces be put it in the 'rejected' pile?

There was no SSP candidate in Dundee East in 2003 - how do labour explain this swing away?

There was no SSP candidate in Dundee East last time because they agreed to support the then Labour candidate, John McAllion. Clearly these voters have moved to the SNP as the Labour candidate is not to their liking.

That's the point I think (Please correct me if I'm wrong Brian!) - The votes that went to the SSP last time seem to now be going to the SNP as there aren't as many SSP candiates this time.

We've heard a lot about these 20 SNP target seats but I've not been able to find them online, has anyone got a link to a site that has them?

Lucy, the SSP aren't standing in constitiencies and their votes seem to be going directly to the SNP in the main. It will be interesting to see what happens in the list vote with the SSP and Solidarity both standing.

void paper issue.

Count the whole bloody lot by hand. We need to check that all returning officers are applying the same criteria to decide voting intent.

Full recount is required to recover any credibility from this mess.
