This charming wife

Roger WilliamsGood news. has been found safe and well.

Having missed out on the party's manifesto launch, the "Liberal Democrat shadow Secretary of State for Wales" was invited to Nick Clegg's early morning news conference in Cardiff today.

That said, he did have to sit in the audience with the rest of us rather than on stage with the photogenic people.

Kirsty Williams, the party's Welsh leader, spoke first at what was for an unusually well-attended Lib Dem gathering. Perhaps it was the free bacon rolls on offer.

"There seems to be a lot of interest here this morning. I can only assume that's because of the interest in the televised debate. I really enjoyed the experience - and Nick was not bad on Thursday either."

Perhaps the Lib Dem surge in the polls convinced the party it had to field its candidate to be Secretary of State in government.

One of the quirks of the Sky News Wales Debate yesterday was that only one of the four panellists - Peter Hain - is actually a Welsh candidate in this election.

Neither Kirsty Williams nor Ieuan Wyn Jones is standing in this contest; the Tory Cheryl Gillan is fighting a seat in Buckinghamshire.

It's a quirk likely to be repeated in other Welsh debates.

There are signs the other parties are rethinking their Lib Dem strategy after the Clegg bounce.

Foreign Office Minister Chris Bryant told us Mr Clegg was "a thoroughly likeable person with a very charming wife" before Welsh Labour went on the attack over Lib Dem plans to cut tax credits and scrap the child trust fund.
