The road to Frankfurt

MattAnother early start, but its somehow a lot easier getting up when you know you’re going to Frankfurt for an England World Cup match. We’ve got two cars doing the journey – some of us will be watching the match in a Frankfurt bar, the others have got tickets – and we’re currently speeding along the autobahn heading north.

Big boss Rhys has attached an England flag to the car behind us which, whatever people’s feelings, at least makes it easier to spot them in the rear view mirror. Travelling with Rhys are Chris, Carrie and Rachel. Jocelin and Aled decided to give the trip a miss so they’re going to explore the Germany countryside a little. Whatever they do its a good day for it, the weather is scorching.939293

060610_ob_frankfurt_125.jpgOn that note, I can never remember it actually being anything other than gorgeous weather when England play a World Cup game. No doubt I’ll be proved wrong, but for today at least we can expect to see lots of naked flesh wondering the streets of Frankfurt as English fans lap up the sunshine.

We’ve not heard any team news yet today so I’ve no idea if Steven Gerrard is going to be starring in the midfield. Fingers crossed he’ll be there to repeat some of his Liverpool form, and maybe match the shooting skills shown by the German team last night. What a game that was to start the tournament.

We’re about to pull over to the service station now so I’m going to off. My prediction for the game - a 3-1 victory to England.

What a prediction Matt! 3-1 to England?! I see you didn't predict Mr Hargreaves being part of the team once again?

Do we play badly in the second half because Sven only has one post-match speech rehearsed? Insert - "We played well in the first half, in the second half we played not so well...."

A disappointment eh? Well that is ashame. Youre right though, its always the same with england, their opening games are always dire.

So germany, enlgand and mexico mixed in the one, sounds interesting i must say. I kinda wish i had watched the england game, although everybody seems to be saying the same, that it was dull. My dad said that too, but hes always moaning about the lack of excitement in football games, so you just nod and agree, just to humour him.

Glad to hear you're getting the good weather too. Too be honest the game was a bit of a disappointment, but that's always seems to be the way with England's opening games in big tournaments.

Rhys, Chappers, Rachel, Mark (our translator) and myself watched the game in a Mexican bar not far from the town centre whilst the others were at the match.

There weren't really many other fans about so it was a very relaxed afternoon, though a bit odd. Watching an England game on German telly in a Mexican bar - never anticpated that's what I'd be doing for the start of the World Cup.

So far so good.

Emjoy the rest of your trip! xx
