Morning all, glad you are back Mr Evans. As a listener I promise to do the same thing and hang about and listen to you until April.

Good news today, my lovely nephew and his wife (who I got together many moons ago) had a beautiful baby boy this morning 7lb 2oz named Keegan.

So after the bad news last week and the imminent funeral there is a light at the end of the tunnel, as one door closes etc.

Been asked to do a reading on Friday, nervous and hope I dont get too choked but think it is the least I can do really for me ole nan.

Feeling very bouyant today and have just spent a small fortune on baby clothes, havent done that in years.

Newer ones are going next door to give my lovely neighbour some inspiration for revamping her garden.

Right, it's mid-day and King Ken is done for today, so am off to the iplayer to listen again to the start of the CLP show... didn't switch on til 8am, oops!

Well Christmas ia all done and dusted here for another year ,and doesn't it look strange with it all gone. windows and door open here this morning and lots of activity .
I've even walked around the estate to see whats going on and there is new life popping up all around and our resident blackbird is very busy .
I could have done with a couple of your books Ann as I'm hoping to have some sort of a structure in the garden this year that we can go and sit in ,the only problem is getting the idea over to the boss ,what do you think my chances are ,needs working on me thinks.

First off - THANK YOU so very, very much for the kind words at the loss of Jasper. Mere words cannot express how much your good wishes meant to me. Apologies again for using this blog to transmit the news - am still having trouble with Faceboot. I am gradually preparing myself to rejoin the world - one step at a time... The undertaker is bringing Jasper back to me this afternoon, in the casket we picked together whilst he was alive. I think that will help.

Cockneybird - I am dreadfully sorry to hear that your sweet nan has passed away - a part of her lives on in baby Keegan, and in your heart, I'm sure. What an honour to be asked to do a reading; I've no doubt that you'll do her proud. To have such a lovely grand-daughter as you must have been a real blessing to her. Do you know what you'll be reading yet? I read at my nanny's funeral a few years ago and chose the one that starts "What is dying? A ship sails...". But Jasper always liked "Remember Me" by Christina Rosetti best. Whatever you read will be beautiful music to your nan's ears - wherever she is.

MwK - we've had a bit of blue sky here in Hampshire too (shhh!). But, true to form, as soon as I thought about putting some washing out it clouded-up. Hey-ho, 'twas ever thus.

Re. this blog title and the show this morning - yes; I now have some dog bowls, leads, collars, toys, etc., but no dog. But I cannot laugh about it. And Ken Bruce MUST be King of Scotland - no other will do! Just look at his name, for goodness' sake - "Ken" (as in "d'ye ken, hinny?") and "Bruce" (as in "Robert the"; one of the best and noblest kings of that realm, and a fine poet to boot). Yes: it's high time the Mighty Turnip bore a crown... ;-)

Thanks Roo and I am so sorry about Jasper. I hope you find comfort in the fact that you were his most treasured posession apart from his toys obviously....

My nan always liked a good verse and was never overly religious, when you bought her a birthday card then it had to have lots and lots of words.

My aunt wants me to read John 14 (she is roman catholic) although nan never was. But I have picked out a verse which is:-

We thought of you with love today

We thought about you yesterday

Your memory is our keepsake

I thought this was nice as it could be from all of us in the family. Mum wants me to do the verse, so they are thrashing it out today and I should know tonight which one I am doing.

I shall read it to the back of the chapel and with any luck be able to do it without too much shaking.

Just got a piccie of little keegan and his grandad to my phone and a tear came to my eye. Cant wait to meet the little munchkin and cuddle him.

Roo and CB - I couldn't reply straight away to either of your pieces of sad news, as I've been in the midst of a bit of a black hole myself. I lost a beloved uncle on 17th December and 'im indoors lost an auntie on the 27th. Add to that 'im indoors being made redundant on 28th December, and it's been a bit of a pooey end of the year for us.

We had my uncle's funeral on Friday and it was beautiful but very sad, obviously. He and my aunt had been married for 63 years and she's now completely rudderless. The next funeral is next Monday and then hopefully we can take 2012 by the scruff of its neck and get on with it.

I know I'm a bit late with good wishes, but I really do hope this year will be a good one for everyone, especially Deevs with her new business (which is already off to a cracking start by the sound of it), to the lovely Keith and the news of his new grandchild-to-be, to CB on the arrival of Keegan and of course to CLP, Tash and Noah with their new arrival due in May.

Jillygoat, so sorry to hear your news too, I'm with CB, onwards and upwards is the only way, even though it's tough at times.

CB, I really like the verse above, it's the way we think about my dad who is still in my thoughts after many years, like Clodagh's DDD. But whatever you read, it will be right for your nan, and little Keegan will keep you all smiling.

Bridget - a garden structure eh, sounds good to me! Thinks... slowly... are we talking benches, love seats, gazebos, summer houses...? How do you usually persuade him that you are right: hints, magazines left lying open at the right page, a trip to a garden centre? If you were nearby I'd happily drop them off to you as I think the binman may do himself some damage picking up the bag in the morning!

Well, my reprise of the breakfast show hasn't happened yet 'cos the i-player isn't working today for some reason, so I've had an 80's afternoon on i-t*nes, bopping around the spare bedroom as the clearance continues. Time for Mr Mayo so t'wireless will go back on again now...

Thanks Sezza; doggy bits safely stored away. One of his bigger chews has gone to Milo, the Staffy pup who lives next door, and the gifts he was given for Christmas were passed (while he was still alive) to his best friends Ewan and Fizzy. His blog will remain up and running (will maintain to avoid spam misuse) - there's over five years of Jasperness there!

I have received Jasper's ashes back in their lovely carved wooden casket. I know it sounds loopy, but I feel better now that they are with me.

As soon as the FB goblins have sorted out whatever is ailing my account there, I will get back and thank everyone who left lovely messages on there.

Roo, You got in there just before me, Apple crumble and custard, oooohh one of my all time favourites too . Says she, who is sat here, surrounded by jelly babies, and an array of sweets and chocolates . I took a box of mince pies into work today, and they had all gone by 10am !! Then we started on the Quality Street, and we just seemed to eat our way through the day .

Sorry to hear of the sad losses people have sustained over recent days. My heart goes out to you all, and I hope you find the strength to get through the dark days ahead.
Personally , 2011 was just dreadful for me, and i was so relieved to see it end. A year of ups (not many) and downs (more than enough), bereavement and illness, was topped off nicely by someone keying the bonnet of my brand new car . So , i am tiptoeing into 2012, but so far, two random acts of kindness by total strangers has made me think this year may have some potential !!

Am with you on the 2011 thing; a year best forgotten for me. Nowhere near the classic vintage of 2005. But as Yazz and the Plastic Population informed us in 1988 - the only way is up... (Actually, I prefer D:Ream's "Things Can Only Get Better" - but the happy memories I associate with that track are forever tainted for me by the image of John Prescott and Peter Mandelson "dancing" to it at the Labour Party's election victory celebrations in 1997...).

I'm doing the verse got told last night, so all sorted and feeling better, going to get Friday out of the way before I go and see Keegan as there are probably hundreds of people trapsing in and out and I am going to be a constant not a flit in and out so I shall spend some time with him on Sunday.

Roo, I am glad that you have jasper back and that it makes you feel better.

Onwards and upwards everyone, there is one good thing about this year so far, the weather hasnt been too bad and hopefully will stay this way through to spring and the evenings are getting lighter too. Before you know it will be summer again. Yee ha!

As someone who certainly had her share of illness, sadness & loss in 2010, I really think I am qualified to say that it really does get better. I still have my 'bad' days, but they are less frequent and the positive attitude is much easier to hang on to.

This blog was one of the things that really kept me going last year, and to thank individuals would be an insult to the ones I don't mention so, let's leave it as ........ I love you all!!

Let me first put a wrong right! Chris, I am very sorry that I didn't comment on your blog (not that you read our comments ;)) but Happy New Year to you and yours and I shall certainly be listening to April and beyond.

Roo and MC, If you lived nearer I would have popped in with some crumble. It's funny as years ago I wouldn't eat fruit unless it was how it should be, so no jam, no stewed fruit, no tinned fruit etc. Still not keen on tinned fruit but I am slowly coming round to crumble and jam. For the record I have three pieces of fruit every day with my lunch, today I have an apple, banana and satsuma.

Not a bad day in North Kent, quite mild and the sun is trying to peek through the clouds.

Good morning everyone,

I'm back, well I was back at work yesterday but didn't have time to post. I know I am a bit late but Happy New Year to you all. We had a relatively quiet time over the holiday, I was off for the full fortnight but unfortunately David only had the usual 2 days, he was also on stanby so was working quite a lot. We didn't have any structural damage in the storms, but did have no power on both occasions so that was a bit of a pain.

So sorry to hear some of you have been having a tough time of it recently, hopefully 2012 will be positive.

CG - Those kittens are absolutely adorable, we already have a Burmese and 2 Bengals, unfortunately we lost Crunchie our little moggie on Christmas eve, but David would leave me if I turned up with another kitten!

I was at a friend's Sister's funeral between Christmas and New Year, she died and then the very next day her first Grandson was born, so mixed emotions for everyone involved.

I haven't had a chance to catch up on any posts before yesterday's blog and have no hope of doing so.

Ali How about something like the new rail link from Birmingham to London, to be honest I don't really know anything about it but would the money not be better spent improving what is already there??, the same thing applies to broadband, we keep reading about the millions being spent to improve broadband speeds, can they not spend the money getting broadband to people (like myself) who can't even get it - at any speed!!

The 40mph restriction, with average speed cameras, is strangely soothing on a motorway, but it drives me mad when I have to set off an hour earlier than normal.

Why is there so much laundry "not suitable for tumble drier" and WHY does everything end up inside the duvet cover when it comes out of the washing machine/tumble drier?

Why do we keep getting called from recorded robotic messages here at ChezNic telling us that we've had an accident in the last 5 years and to press 5 for compo, likewise PPI insurance payment thingys. Nobody here has had an accident nor do we qualify for PPI so please STOP ringing us, you strange little robotic person.

I'm sure there'll be more to follow ......

Deevs, I get that PPI thing all the time, last time they rang I said I don't qualify, they said I do, so I said how? They said for loans you've taken out and credit cards, so I said I have no loans and I pay my one credit card off every month and with that they hung up! Gets right on my nerves it does and why do they always call when you just sat down to eat, the JW's do the exact same thing as well.....lol.

Phew Lin glad it's not just me who tumble dries everything - an odd mishap way back but nothing to worry over. As you say if really precious then don't do it. I have two heat settings so I have risked some things for just 30 minutes on the low heat and mostly it works as they are then ok just to hang and dry naturally for the remainder.

Sick of this sorting out lark but it has to be done!

Loving the ranty pants - not that I need them at the moment, but the boy might.....
He's now fast asleep after the biggest tantrum I think we've ever had, over him not eating his dinner (as usual) and me giving him a time limit and nasty consequences (straight to bed and no play centre tomorrow) and actually carrying the consequences out. I feel a bit mean, but have to be tough............I just hate being the mean one!

It's also kinda funny, as he has the same temperament as me, so I was trying not to laugh as the red mist came down and he screamed in my face.......

On a good note....looks like the house in Orkney is on.....eeekkkk!!
