Can we keep it down please. After one too many cocktails in the Titanic Bar last night I've a nasty little blighter woodpecker perched on me left ear an' a face like a thumped cushion.

Now then. Am in a MAD JEALOUS RAGE over the campin'. While yous lot are enjoyin' the fun an' frolics under canvas, some of us 'ave to earn a crust. So I shall be in a mad sulk in Dublin, boo.

Ah yes, the campin'. The busted li-los, the ants the size a donkeys wit homicidal tendencies an' intent upon makin' off wit your bloater-paste butty, the sand in the after-sun that scourged off what remained of your seared skin, the utter delight in the shame of the older sister and cousin when The Dads had to go haul 'em outa the beach disco at midnight.. in striped pyjamas, and gettin' clattered round the head by Renee an' Dot upon their return... oh Happy Days.

Ah don't get me started.

I have to say though, this business yesterday of the songs that make you blub. My ex-hubby, big strappin' rugger-bugger all-action hero, is reduced to squawkin' like a baby at the sound of Van The Man's Have I Told You Lately That I Love You... it's his special song for his special girl, our very own GD. Bless.

And funnily enough Chris should have played Robert preston's I Love My Wife... I defy anyone not to blub to the self-same Robert Preston's I Won't Send Roses.. from Mack and Mabel. Ah Jayz am wellin' up.

Good monring

We went camping every year we were children, either Wales or devon/ cornwall although I do have memories of York and Skegness as well. We used to look longingly at the static caravans and think they were posh becuase you didnt have a 2 mile walk to the loo!

Needless to say I will never camp again - my last time was Reading Festival 2000 and that is it!

As for the talk last night, why? Its not funny and its slighly disturbing. I don't want this blog to turn into a speed dating site or a place to flirt (other then the light heartened banter everyone enjoys - I did see your comment the other day Rips) but I come here to read CLP and to chat about life.

So 2012 then? Reading back through last night’s blogs told me a thing or two. And just realised i had also watched that most ludicrous film of the same title but was so uninterested i didn’t actually realise it was based on the world supposedly ending. Just thought it was a random year.

Oh well, we shall see. I tell you what though, I'm putting off the expense of re-roofing the house for a few more years, just in case.

CLP, we will make sure we have a weekend. I fact, ChezNic's weekend is going to last for 10 days as yes, today is our last day at work before a wee mini break!! Not exactly a staycation, but only a couple of hours down the road and then a bit of mayhem at the V Festival ..... can't wait!

As for camping, I enjoy it, but there are ground rules (and hopefully ground sheets!) I like my comforts so whenever I have been camping (with the former Mr Deevs) I always insisted on taking absolutely everything possible to make it a real home from home. And given my phobia of "eight legged freaks" there was more than one occasion when he would be dispatched into the ladies shower block (after making sure it was empty, obviously!) to clear the area of those nasty not so little spidery things. I also hate the large corporate camp sites - no bbqs, no ball games, no fires, no singing .... what's the point!?!? Give me a small privately owned site where family and flexibility if key and I'm a happy bunny!

Anyhoo, best find something to do - only another 9 hours or so to kill and then it's holiday, celebrate ......

Baggy - 2010, It was ok as in one of those films that didn't stop and everytihng worked out at the very last minute. But the part where the Jumbo Jet takes off piloted by a guy who can only fly small byplanes whilst the world literally crumbles away beneath the wheels ...... ooops sorry if you haven't seen the film yet !!!!

It's lovely and sunny here and the forecast is good for the weekend - about time!

Went out last night to see the meteor shower but it was a little cloudy, however I did see a beautiful sunset and an owl, I tried to take photos of the sky but they just look like a blurred mess, never mind.

David driving a bus tomorrow, taking a pipe band to the world pipe band championships in Glasgow Green, so I am going to take the train into Glasgow to meet him and go for lunch. (Not listening to the pipes though as I am not keen). Hope everyone else has a good weekend, and Deevs and Nic have a great break.

So I havent put my bid in for the trip - but am really looking forward to hearing the show - already I think its going to be a scream.

The beauty of camping is that you sleep on air beds, which are generally on the floor, which means if you fall out of bed you generally don't break anything .....!!

Alroight our Kid, How yam gowing....

Deevs have you been to V before just a bit of advice if you havent, ignore if you have. Go early on the Friday morning as the traffic on the M54 generally starts to back up about midday.

Alternatively if you go past junction 3 and carry onto junction 4, take the turn off A460 castle farm way towards Donnington and then drive up to the "island" 3rd right down A5 and carry on down towards Weston Park, you will cut accross all the traffic and get in quicker to the site.

It does take you out of your way but I found last year that if you came in from that side you had less delays, cant say the same coming home but hey ho thats the festival life.

Hey enjoy Peter Andre he is Cheryls replacement. Mysterious Girl la la la la. Enjoy your break.

ha ha ha was joking about Peter Andre... Think I probably would have preferred to see Cheryl. The line up sounds fab mind you last year Killers, kasabian and of course Oasis as they played the Saturday night and didnt make it to Chelmsford as they had a tiff and split up. Proud to say saw them play together the last time, mind you that is about it never been their biggest fan.

Should have gone again this year but work committments are too much. Cheating sounds fab idea, get the joy and atmosphere of the festival without the dirt. Mind you by Sunday evening the toilets can whiff a bit. Hope the weather stays good. Take plenty of cash for drinkies quite expensive.

A tad chilly in Kent today but there is a very small smidgen of blue up there so I am holding onto that.

Love camping been doing it every year since I was 9 and this year is no exception. In fact tomorrow I am going to practice putting up my brand new three man tent in my parents garden, not sure it would work on my balcony I might have trouble banging the tent pegs into the concrete :)

Four weeks today I shall be on my way to Zimbabwe!!! That has come around far too quick for my liking!

When I was young and skint I camped a lot as it was the only way I could to go away.

Now I am older and have got a few bob I like my creature comforts.

I don't care how "luxurious" the camping experience is made out to be, at the end of the day it is still a tent in a field.

One or two responses to the comments of the last couple of days, if I may.

1. I resent any suggestion of evilness. I am merely a meglomaniac, I don't got out of my way to destroy people, but it's their own fault if they choose to get in my way.

2. Camping is something that should only ever be done out of neccessity, never for pleasure. Because there isn't any, unless you're of the opinion that the best way to meet people is to stand with them in a queue while waiting to empty your chemical toilet.

3. `Islands' are called `Islands' because that's what they are. You can't sit on them and have your friends spin you around, nor do they have fibreglass horses on them that bob up and down as music plays.

4. Jelly Wrestling is a vastly underrated sport.

MTF - with regards to your policing of the Blog last night (big cheer here), when I was a little boy, my mother put a sticker on my bedside table with a picture of some pearly white teeth and the slogan which works very well in life as well - 'ignore them and they will go away'. Sometimes this may be better than even giving the rouge bloggers the time of day.

Strange how 30 years on I still use that methodology in everyday life. Although it never works with traffic wardens or my little ones nappies !!!!!

Hello CLP & Everyone.

I've never camped apart from using sheets over clothes airers but many moons ago we used to rent a caravan just a few miles away on the edge of the beach. The owner (local garage owner) would pick up us up in his open truck, we would climb on board with our stuff, buckets & spades, etc and off we'd go.

We did this every summer and I can honestly say these were the holidays I've remembered all my life. Maybe we were all a bit simple then and ver y easily pleased but other more exotic holidays have not meant so much.

Re last nights postings. IMHO I love cheeky amusing banter (especially Barney, Bingo & Rips. I admit I'm not intelligent enough to keep up with them. But when the amusing friendly insults (Anne Robinson style) turn nasty I don't like it. Likewise I get bored with idle chatter about nothing in particular.

We are all unique and this blog is for everyone.

Maybe I'm weird but I remember feeling excited leading up to 31/12/1999 re the millenium bug and the lights, etc. going out. Followed by a feeling of disappointment when nothing happened. I'm sure 21/12/2012 will be exactly the same.

I have to confess I'm definitely in the 'never again' corner when it comes to camping. Went once when I was in the girl guides and it scarred me for life. I'm now of the age that I can't see the joy in sleeping on a lumpy, damp floor when there are so many pubs doing B&B to choose from!

Don't worry about the grey and damp weather today, it's just damping down the dust ready for the weekend to start. At least that's what my dear old dad always used to tell us when we complained if it was raining when we set off to the coast for our holidays.

Wouldn't worry about the odd muppet on the blog either. We all know there are enough lovely people in here to cancel out the odd miserable one. Sadly seems the way of the world these days that in any web community there's always one or two who want to go out of their way to spoil things for everyone else. Personally I wouldn't wear my keyboard out bothering to disagree with them.

On the countdown to going home time now - just wondering how I'm going to fit the pile of 'things that really need to get done today' into the 4 hours I've got left.

Tina Biscuit - I'm with you on the camping. At guide camp a spider crawled into my sleeping bag as the light was turned out and I wasn't allowed to put the light back on. Our Guider was a hard woman ..... I've been scared of spidies ever since!

Loving the Brummie-speak. 'Im indoors is from Solihull and although he's lived darn sarf for over 20 years he still speaks funny!! He pronounces the word 'poor' as 'poo-er' (!) but pronounces the word 'pour' as 'paw'. Makes me larf every time he says 'poo-er' (sad, I know).

His mum and brother still live in Solihull and when his mother and her sister get together and become animated, all you can hear is 'ardle, ardle, ardle'!!

Brum and surrounding areas are fab we have some lovely countryside on our doorstep not too mention beautiful Wales just over the border. Have you done the jewellery quarter for a bit of window shopping, and there is the mailbox and the bars around there by the canal behind the NIA and broadstreet. Then there is Ironbridge.

Right thats it I'm off as I seem to have developed a penchant for being a tourism rep for the West Mids

Been to the NIA a few times, and we've seen Jasper Carrott's 'Rock With Laughter' over 3-4 times now ..... we've seen some great names there and you certainly get a lot of entertainment for your money (mostly all good). Lenny's hosting it this year at the LG Arena.

It's been a while and I can only blame pressure of work and the fact that when I get in, having looked at a screen all day, I just haven't the energy or wit to join in. In fact it's days since I even read whats been chatted about, but have now caught up.

What was that all about last night?? Its like a recurring nightmare when out of the blue the horridness starts for no reason.

The talk of camping is really what has prompted me to post. Never done it myself and nor had Adam until now. He is, as I type camping at Bloodstock - some sort of metal music thingy - in Lichfield.

He and his girlfriend went on the train yesterday and rang me at 4pm to say it was tipping it down and that they were soaked! Tent was up but Adam referred to it as the toilet roll, coz it's grey and like a sort of tube.

We hadn't seen it up because the first pop-up tent he bought, I broke trying to twist it up to put back in the bag!!
We didn't dare try this one (different design, granted) in case I knackered that one too!

Got a call at 6.30am to say they had been robbed in the night whilst they were asleep! GFs bag had been dragged from the tent and her cash stolen. Bag found in a bin, cards and camera still in it, obviously just the dosh wanted.

Apparently bands are good, but Adam said he's hating it and would rather stay at Pontins - and knowing as I do how much he's hated that in the past - he must be as miserable as sin!

other than that, everything is hunky-dory in the Crumpy houshold and Honey and I are enjoying the peace and quiet.

Oh Crumps, that's so horrible for Adam and his lovely GF. I didn't realise Bloodstock was in Lichfield - that's only about 20 minutes from here - and it's absolutely chucking down outside now :-(

On a brighter note, I am now on holibobs until 24th August - yay! Just waiting for me fella to come home and shed his pinstripes and it's 10 days of bliss and fun amd laughter. Even if it rains!

I've also decided to trace my family tree. I made a tentative start this afternoon but gave up when the site I was using wanted my credit card details to enable me to progress any further! I've just had a chat with my mum and she's going to give me some names and dates of rellies beyond my grandparents to see how far I can get. I've never been fussed over it before, but actually feel quite excited now at the prospect!

I suspect it will be the first and last camping experience.

Good you are doing the family history thing whilst you are able to ask your mum. Both my mum and dad are long gone ans so are all their brothers and sisters so I have no-one in that older generation to ask, and I was not interested when I was in my teens and early 20's which was how long ago it was that they both died.

Hope you have some success - I know a former colleague who has gone back about 6 generations and even the seemingly mundane stuff is fascinating.

I think what's prompted me is that (a) Nic has done his and gone back loads and loads of generations, (b) we've been watching Who Do You Think You Are and I'm semi-hooked, and (c) my great aunt is the only rellie left now on my dads side (dad and nan both gone, grandad died in the war in 1944). Also the fact that I am an only child I'm just curious now as to my heritage. I did find out recently that I have gypsy stock on my mums side, going back 4 generations I think (my mums nan).

Family trees are fascinating, aren't they? Traced my Scottish family back to the early 1800s in Port Glasgow and my Newcastle family back to the 1890 Census in Usworth, Co. Durham, thanks to Kirstie. Have passed all the info on to my eldest, who is continuing the quest. The only problem is if you have ancestors in Ireland - difficult to trace them because of the lack of records.

I spoke to my auntie on the phone earlier and she said that the gypsy element are a bit of a brick wall - apparently, they appeared on two different Censuses in the same year ...... lol!

Nic's family tree goes all the way back to twenty past three in the afternoon!

Evening All,

Chris - I so wish I'd been able to pitch for a pitch but we have been in France all week - the irony is that we are at my sister's in Cornwall on that day - gutted!

Well, last night at Disney and looking forward to getting home to non-bankrupting beer and all the other home comforts that I take for granted.
What a fantastic place this is. I though I'd find it all quite nauseating but it's done so brilliantly and the kids are so utterly overwhelmed by everything that goes on (and boy, does a lot go on) that I've loved every minute despite the fact that the phone hasn't stopped ringing every minute.....ho hum.
I'm currently sat/sitting on grass bank in front of the palace whilst the CMM and the kids ride Snow White or similar. Shame - quite fancied that one myself.

Ahem!

I've been here an hour now and have about an hour and a half to go until the last huge parade and then the fire work extravaganza.
I just really hope I'm the right side of the palace or Ciara will actually kill me.

Not been camping since I was in my early teens, and yes, you've guessed it, it was with the Guides! The first week of the summer holiday we'd be bussed off to a field in deepest North Wales for a week of fetching wood, a bucket for a toilet, and another bucket with a canvas cubicle for a shower! Not sure if I could handle it now, maybe for a night or two but not much longer as I need my mod cons (well a bed and a shower at least).

Family history is really interesting, and I've enjoyed Who Do You Think You Are too. My Dad did a lot of research into his family, long before all these websites sprang up, so I've got a good idea of my paternal family line back to the 1660s/1670s. He passed away a few years ago but all his files are still at my Mum's and it makes interesting reading. Not so sure about my Mum's side, apart from that it's Scottish with a smidge of Northern Irish. What with my Dad's English/Welsh background it makes me a right Heinz 57!!

I was wondering something similar MTF. It is some what later than I thought too. Mind it's only about an hour since I got to eat, so I probably ought to stop up a tad longer. I would probably get to the food bit earlier on a Friday if I refrained from going to the pub with a couple of workmates on the way home. Pity I have to drive home from the pub, so the alcohol doesn't kick in til much later.

MTF: yes, noticed you are more of a night owl than me. I'm about ready to conk out. Busy day ahead tomorrow, just writing a list so I don't miss something important.

Have now also written a list of all I need for the bank hol weekend. Camping, sort of, for the first time in years (yes I too did guides and have been dragged on numerous caravan trips and much prefer my creature comforts - bed, warm bathroom and shower). I get to kip in the awning of a friends caravan. My sleeping requirements list so far reads: sleeping bag (liberated from the attic), air bed (to be located), pump (presumably with air bed), blankets (with which to cover air bed, I seem to recall they get jolly chilly and I do prefer having my legs free of the sleeping bag and frost bite free), camping roll mat thing (not sure I have one as big as the air bed, but I'm thinking any padding from the ground is good), pjs.

Rest of the list includes waterproofs and layers of dry clothes! Have I missed anything obvious?
