aren't we lucky enough to be able to afford to be environmentally aware! That our lives are not dominated by survival, finding food, water & shelter that we have time available to ponder the bigger picture.

Not that I'm condemming "greenies" or "ethic..ies". As CLP says the world moves on - changes happen - London is London because of where it is situated - the environment lent itself to being a big merchant city and the center of England's economy as the world got bigger (not physically!) London got bigger - it needed better infrastructure to connect to the new corners of civilisation - and the world continues to get bigger therefore infrastructure needs to meet that demand. This ball was set rolling far back in history and Greenpeace ain't gonna stop it, its actions will increase awareness, and possibly shape policies but in the end needs must!

oooh planes are well interesting but I'm not sure I could live that close..But, like all things I suppose you would get used to the noise and vibrations (baby).

We once saw an aborted landing at Heathrow from the M25...plane about 10 ft from runway...nose points up and it climbs climbs climbs. By the time we got on the M40 it was nearly at the top of the landing circle. I was fascinated and wanted to ring Mr Branson (for it was one of his) and see what had happened!

Am drowning in a sea of tedium at work today....someone throw me a lifeline!

..sorry AliB, I'd like to take the Ministership for Culture off Mr Tindall, and award it to Adele. Or indeed that Tina woman off CBB(ies). Both fine examples of what Grate Britain has to offer.

And when I worked for BA (for b a) we all used to rush out to watch, on the very rare occasions that Concorde was diverted to land at Gatwick, and the amount of furore, good and bad, generated in the local press was crazy...mainly how wonderful, and what a tourist attraction, and wouldn't it be fantastic if it could land here all the time...and if Gatwick had had a second, and slightly longer runway, which would have been a lot safer for the plane, then both the British and the French may have considered just that...

I agree with the marvel of aeroplanes.... I remember on 'olidee a few times going for a wander along the beach ter watch the planes comiong in ter land. The landing lights are in the sea and the planes go over your 'ead about 100feet. Yer can see the plane wobbling from side ter side over the sea as it rides the air... looks like it's coming right at yer. Then an enormous noise followed by a strong following draft of air.... love it!!!!!
Then yer see it in the 'aze touch the tarmac and the reverse thrust comes on ter 'elp slow the 100 odd tonnes of immense metal slow!!!!!!
A love anything that moves fast, is noisy and powerful!!!!!!!
In fact a little dream of mine 'as been ter be a pilot but a think it's a class thingy. Think yer ave ter ave alot of A-levels and know people - know what am sayin'!!!!!
So ave 'ad ter settle for truck driver... even though abet the principle of flying a plane is easier than reversing a truck . Just yer ave ter learn WAY more about the technicalities.... and all the flying jargon..... rules of the air.... nautical stuff - know what am sayin'!!!!!!
A once drove an intercity train at 110mph and yes it's so much easier than driving a car!!!!!!!!!

My little boy got punched in the mouth again today, by the same boy. He has a cut lip, again.

The mother approached me in the playground, the Headteacher called her to the school to talk about it.

I am so close to tears but can't let the wee fella see me get upset.

He told the teacher when it happened last week but I was told that both boys gave different stories. The teacher actually saw it today.

I'm having a grumpy moo day now :-(

Just checking in. Chris, how lovely of you to wish Bingo a happy birthday!

Now, I adore watching planes, but I don't want them taking the roof off my kitchen! I once had a dreadful argument with an ice cream vendor who used to park his van right under the window where MsS was sleeping (occasionally!). That was bad enough!

Debbie: what does the headteacher intend to do, do you know? This must be stopped immediately - I know it is very difficult - and I know it is irrational of me to just blame the other boy, but I just feel your LM is not to blame! You must insist that some form of action is taken now! Oooooh, it's a minefield, isn't it? I have said this before, I despise bullies - and your wee boy is so young to have to start defending himself!

Thanks AliB. Chrissie, I spoke to the teacher and she said that it had been dealt with and she would keep an eye on the situation.

The other mum said it was totally her sons fault and so did the teacher. LM won a race at playtime, the other boy said that he did. Didn't like it when LM said he didn't...punch.

My heart breaks to think of him being hit like this by another child but I know that I have to toughen up. I just have to. But god I feel awful.

For a split second I thought that the other boy should be excluded now I feel bad.

That's what I thought last week, boys will be boys and all that. But to come home twice with a cut lip, at 5 years, old I think is a bit much.

I was bullied. Not until I got into senior school. I was painfully shy and didn't talk to anyone. I was scared of making myself look stupid. So they decided that I was a snob.

They took things from my bag throwing them around the class, called my mum names and threatened to wait for me outside school. They never did but the thought of it was bad enough.

I ended up staying at home with the Headteacher phoning me 'Deborah I know why you are absent today....'

Schools seem to not know what to do about bullying. It's a horrible thing to happen.

Greetings and Salutations from Vancouver...

Having been back to Blighty and indeed, through Heathrow recently, I concur that expansion may be necessary, evils though it may entail and feathers it may ruffle. "What price progress?" echoes the cry...

Having been enthralled by an utterly vibrant Christmas, my next trip to Blighty, (incorporating a week in Switzerland, a country my Canadian femme has always longed to see...and who am I to deny such joys...) is now firmly confirmed.

Mid-August, with the warmer weather, afternoon pints by the river, late day slumber in the Royal Parks, late evening sunshine, entrancing sunsets and the plethora of pleasures that are simply stitched into the fabric of our nation in the Summer months. And this time, a beverage with fellow contributors to this forum is simply a must.

'Tis my birthday on Friday and the weekend is all about being whisked away to Whistler for dog sledding, snow shoeing and relaxing...all punctuated by piquant food, unbearably drinkable wine and devilishly wonderful company...

I wish each and every one of you good folk the finest of days and most hearty regards from this corner of the Commonwealth...

Most of what you typed above hit a chord with me too - 'cept they did wait outside school.

I think it was because I was an only child, with nobody bigger at home to help fight my corner. Even after I left school and started work, I was afraid to go into town in my lunchbreak as most of the nasties also worked in the that very same town.

I really hope the Headteacher sorts something out soon.

I think that if you are bullied as a child it effects how you are as an adult. Do you agree?

Even now at work I find sometimes that I go to say something and stop. Or if a conversation is going on that I want to join in on, I can't always do it. Kind of want to blend in with the wallpaper.

Once I really get to know and trust people though, (which takes a while) you can't shut me up.

I'm not taking it any further at the school. The mum was so apologetic and the Headteacher aware. But if it happens again......I'm outside her door like a shot.

LM has had a few cuddles, very cuddly in fact. The next one is from Auntie Cheryl.

Debbie: as I have said before I was bullied too - by my "best friend" when I was around 10 and then when I went to senior school, by another girl, right through those four years. Utter hell.

But it's another thing when the children are as young as your son. It is just not on for a five year old to whack your son, just because he was jealous of him winning the race.

By the sound of things, the school is "up to speed" so hopefully things will get sorted.

Of course, it is only when we get older that we realise that the bullies are, in all probability, being bullied themselves. Who's to say what is going on in that other little boy's life? But, what concerns you is YOUR son and I completely understand that you really must feel sick about all this.

Children should be able to just enjoy being children ...... I better stop, or I'll be in tears in a minute!

Great show as usual, even better now that I got new headphones, why is everything so disaposable nowadays, went through 3 sets of headphones last year, seem to go faulty quickly. Makes me wonder do DJ's go through headphones as quick as that, and do they hurt their ears like my ears hurt whilst wearing them.

Awe just been reading Patrick McGoohan has sadly passed away at the age of 80. Famous for the cult show The Prisoner, I remember him more for his work on Columbo.

Just one more thing...

Feels like am talking to myself which I do all the time.

Cheryl I'm allowed to bring out 7 loaves at the end of my shift. And so I did. Order from MiL, the kids and Mr Debbie some to take to work. Look out for the Crusty range, it's lovely.

Re: Patrick McGoohan, yup he was offered both The Saint and the Bond film "Live and Let die" he turned them both down. Also was first choice for Gandalf in LoTR, and Dumbledore in Potter films.

Never really got into The Prisoner, was weird.

I remember him fondly for his starring and directing a number of Columbo episodes.

Columbo is like Marmite, you either love it or hate it.

It can be embarassing if you get caught talking to yourself, sometimes you don't realise you've actually spoken it out loud.

Debbie - know what you are going through and LM might be picking up on your signals of uncertainty - sensitive souls all of us.

I was also bullied at school as I wasn't a local - foreigner to those that had grown up on the estate - never really got accepted throughout primary or secondary school as the schools were linked. These days I'm fairly well adjusted and army training was hard too and I had my fair share of knock backs there too.

I'm just dipping in before I head off to volleyball training. Next matches are on the 27th Jan.

Well I may have done when I was about four months old, oh, and there was a time in 1991 when I spent three months living in a tent whilst hiking across Canada, but other than that?

See, we're now about to close week two of the New Year nobooze-athon, and I have to confess, I'm loving it.

Don't get me wrong, I don't normally have a bottle of scotch a day habit or anything like that, but I do enjoy a drink, possibly erring on the 'slightly too much' sometimes, and that does not help my sleep problems. In fact, you can get into a viscious circle by having a drink thinking it may help you sleep, then experiencing more sleep problems and subsequently drinking more in a desperate attempt to cure the problem.

I'm not suggesting that this applies to you, but it has certainly helped me.

But, you musn't forget the other key areas;

Keep the room cool and quiet. A bath late at night helps as it raises the body temperature which then cools in bed, helping you get to nod land.

Stay away from here late in the evening. In fact, turn the telly off and go read a book. See my list of rock biogs if a debauched tale of drug-taking, booze-swilling, tattooed maniacs takes your fancy. Alternatively, Wuthering Heights is rather good.

Counting stuff (yes, even sheep) or making lists in the mind has helped me in the past.

I have even had success with some of these CD thingys. McKenna's is quite good, but I feel duty bound to recommend my mate Glenn Harrold.

not sure what the protocol is when i have something to add to a previous topic for discussion? do i put it here or there? anyway, it is to do with eggs/toast/timings etc - you remember, from the other day? Well - so excited!! - my father in law has a toaster with a contraption on the side that boils the eggs too!!!! soft or hard, as you like!!! how fab is that??!!

and on a more serious topic, Debbie i know what it is like when your child has a problem with another kid - mine was a bit older (8) and in fact it was more verbal than physical - i was v impressed with how our school dealt with it - all sorted now, and all behind us. I was really worried about it at the time about bullying etc but sometimes i think maybe we read more into it than the kids do esp if we had a hard time at school? do the other mothers say that kid is like it with the others too? it can be very reassuring to talk about it with other mums as i always used to think it was just my daughter until i started talking about it and realised some kids are just unpleasant to everyone!!

Sorry Annie-G, didn't mean to confuse you. CtD was quite correct, I was laughing at the score.

However I was serious when I asked if you'd tried taking a melatonin supplement? It helps restore your sleep pattern/cycle or whatever it's called. You should be able to find in the herb/vitamin section. At least you can here. In any case it works quite well.....

Debbie-C, been thinking all day what I can say to help you through the nasty bullying episode.... but I can't think of anything except kids are tougher than we give them credit for.... worse case, I fly over on my jet back and take care the little bully myself...... Bond's at the ready.......

I am too sensitive so have to remember that, and do worry that my insecurities will be taken on by LM.

I really noticed how clingy and quiet LM was and it upset me a little. But you're right I could be looking for it. I'm sure he go back into school without a care tomorrow. I'm not going to mention anything in the morning.

The other boy is known for being cheeky and over bearing shall we say. But I haven't discussed him with other mums before. I'll see if anyone mentions it tomorrow. Sure that the discussion outside the class was heard today.

And you ramble away, not that you are......you will see that worrying too much is quiet normal for me.
