GO GO GO THE WILD ONE

Chris Evans | 15:42 UK time, Thursday, 19 July 2007

Not seen a stroke of it but I hear...

... JOHN DALY'S in the lead currently in The Open.

Got it all recorded, watching it when I get home.

Been flying this morning, absolutely the best therapy ever, love it, definitely my favorite thing other than golf, food and the girl on the sofa, though not of course necessarily in that order.

In the campaign to get a load of dosh out of a silly photo magasine for some sick kiddies, we welcome to the fight "Hello," who've heard about OK'S approach and have now thrown their hat into the ring. It's not yet quite a bidding war but the more the merrier.

The Beeb and it's staff are still reeling from the last twenty four hours. personally I'm already bored with it all and wish our presenters would stop moaning about it on the air, especially as they seem to be doing so via extremely weak half hearted attempts at irony. If your show can't survive without a phone competition then maybe you should consider another line of work, like a trappist monk for example.

Readying ourselves for the trip up North tomorrow can't wait, bring it on.

I'm soon to be doin' me tandem parachute jump and I Can't Wait. I have me Biggles jacket and me goggles and a large tube of Germolene at the ready.

I wonder what poor sod is goin' to get strapped to meself. Hohoho bless 'im.

I'm remembering the time I was working down in Bournemouth and found myself staying at the hotel at Ferndown golf course...along with the Red Arrows, who were doing the Air Show at the time. I don't know who was more excited, me or my Gay Best Friend Damian from Dublin. But the best thing by far was when they gathered round me to have their photo taken with me like the sad old biddy I am, and Red 2 was unable to work me idiot-proof camera. "Jaysus," boomed Damian, "Which one did you say you were flyin'?"

    Hahaha hoho

    Change of subject AND going out on a limb;
I'm not looking too forward to the "Afternoon

the show and/or calms him down a bit; I wasn't
too impressed when he last did it on his

It will therefore come as no surprise then that
I'm not going to the Glasgow Science Centre
on Saturday to buy two tickets for the
Sunday showing at the IMAX of the new film
(who cares that the last 20mins are in 3-D,
exclusive to the IMAX) It's a vicious

from buying said tickets for this Sunday's
    showing (choice of 10.30am, 1.30pm, 4.30pm,
7.30pm and 10.30pm) because of traffic that
end of town for something called the

Yo CLP & ALL Blog Dudes,

JOHN DALY - I feel so sorry for him at times. He's the ultimate, sometimes flawed genius.
Like you say CLP he was leading the open today and then as usual, he's crashed, from 5 under to 3 over. Alot in open golf terms!!!

To anyone who's not into golf - that's why he gets the nickname - THE WILD THING. He has a unique swing and hits the ball further than most.
But he always seems to rip it with the driver and end up in trouble. Yet he always seems to chip in or hole a shot and rescue himself - drama always seems to happen when he's playing. It's almost spooky!!
I've seen Monty roaring with laughter while playing with Wild John!!!!

Last year very similar happened at Hoylake right in front of me.

I was watching the players on the Friday teeing off at the 18th. John came along and he was just a shot or two within making the cut. All he had to do was make parr on this last hole to stay in the championship for the weekend.
He walked upto the tee and I knew the wind was moderately blowing to the right and with out of bounds on the right.
    He pulled out the driver.
I really wanted to shout at him "John, don't use the driver.. it i'll go out of bounds". I nearly did but you've got to keep quite on the championship days. All the previous players that had come through had played safe with an iron or 5 wood.
And yep... he ripped the ball, up it went so high and the wind got hold of it and out of bounds to the right it went.
He had so much room to hit it left, even onto the 1st hole fairway, but no... straight into out of bounds on the right. He tryed to cut the dogleg on the out of bounds.
Later I saw on the score board he took an 8 or 9 instead of the parr, I think 4. And he crashed out of the championship, missing the cut.

I almost thought he might have done it purposely because he was 10 behind the leaders and thought he can't win it now so decided to go home early - but why would he want to go home early? Just seemed slightly that way to me.

But you can't take it away from him - he has won the open about ten years ago so atleast he is a 'major champion'!!

He is very entertaining to watch though and one of the most eccentric golfers.
I remember hearing the story about his doctor told him to stop smoking. Apparently he used to have a cigarette a hole. So he agreed to have one every other hole instead. LOL!!!! True story from what i've heard.

PS Page 3 of The Sun - very interesting yesterday. (An article on Sally Boazman was mentioned there) It's just it took me ages to read the small article - me attention kept being distracted- can't think why.

    Adios blog dudes.

No difference at all. It's just bullying.

Your 'friend' feels inadequate in whatever way, and thinks it will make her feel better about herself by belittling you. It won't, and in the meantime she has got you all upset. Try being really nice to her, when she says anything, rather than being defensive, ie maybe as a victim would - ask her if that's the way that she really sees it (whatever situation) and get her to explain her criticism. It may be that she is envious of you...and just wants a bit of help to try to find her way to be happy...but if your hubby is right and you do take on the role of victim, she'll keep seeing you as an easy target, and it isn't you she is having a pop at really, it's herself. If you question her every time without being defensive (or however you find yourself reacting) she will start to question herself, and will realise she is going to be losing a good friend in you.

Em M, I find that people who put others down are usually insecure themselves. I can only suggest that should talk to your friend privately about it and explain how it makes you feel. I fell out really badly with a friend once because we didn't sort little problems out at the right time, then the little problems became big problems! We're fine now, but it took ages to put right.

    Hope you get it sorted.

As for seeing your friend regularly because she lives nearby, that really is her problem. If you decide the friendship is at an end, there is no reason why you can't nod to one another on the street, and I'm not being cruel but she really will get the message regarding the enormity of what she's done to you.

I would agree with Hazel love, your friend has some issues and because you're a nice person, she's taking her frustations of life out on you.

I do think that when you are ready and able, don't do it before, you need to sit down and talk through the issues you have with her. Make sure its a neutral venue - not her house and have that chat that you need to have.

In the meantime, just smile at her, it should disarm her, don't comment on anything she says and when she starts, change the subject.

I do hope you feel able to get things sorted quickly.

Em, I know how you feel over the new school issue. My little boy has just finished playgroup and starts nursery 5 days a week next October. If it's any consolation, my stepson is nearly 16 and has just left school. He is just going through that horrible stage that I have been told starts at about 14 and lasts untill about 18. They are so horrible at this age that it makes letting go a little easier as they get older I think. Mother Nature is wonderful.

While I think of it can I just have a little moan.

Firstly, I'm not against 4x4's as a rule. My husband had one once but cars just don't excite me generally.

I got caught out driving back to work lunchtime just after the heaviest rain ever had just stopped. I have to drive down a country lane so narrow that you have to keep pulling over to let cars past and there are potholes all along the side of the road. I burst a tyre going down a pothole in the rain a while back because with the puddles you can't tell how deep the holes are.

Anyway, this 4x4 was in front of me, crawling and I mean crawling down the centre of the lane as if trying not to get the car dirty or something!

These cars are built for that kind of driving aren't they, through small rivers or something I don't know. I just find it ironic that my little car was getting filthy and battling through the sludge while the jeep would have been on tip toes if possible.

Oh dear sorry about that. I suppose I'm just fed up because I'll be out cleaning the car tomorrow morning and don't really feel like it!

Hope you all have a great weekend, be good.

    Advice. Tell 'er Sod Off.

    That's first.

Then go and buy yourself a fantastic book, 'Women Who Love Too Much' by Robin Norwood. Yes I know it sounds like summat by Barbara Cartland but it's actually a book published some years ago now, by an American psychologist, making the point that as women we are often addicted to bad relationships on the mission to 'fix' them, and it details some case histories. Read it, I promise you it's deeply interesting.

Your husband sounds quite astute so you're half way there, you have valuable support. The way to deal with bullies - for this is what she is - is to empower yourself.

You know how it is with bitchy women. The only way they can make themselves feel of any value is to make those around them look worse. So break away from her. She won't die, the world won't end and trust me your world will be happer.

Go and give your boy a big hug and tell him you love him. He needs you and the best thing you can do for him is to be strong. If he's proud of his mummy he will treat his own future ladies well and expect the same in return.

And finally, let your family fight their own battles. They are well able.

I say all this having been in a similar predicament some years ago; I won't go into details but I was at the epicentre of a family and friend feud, and for a long time both I and the daughter were badly affected by it. Thank God or the Universe or whatever intervened, that circumstances forced me to realise what was going on, and I took control of my life, and now I have around me only those people who are positive and loving towards me, and who accept the same from me.

The daughter is a fantastic, confident, hilarious, compassionate and gorgeous Top Bird
of whom I am immensely proud and for whom I would lay down my life in a heartbeat. Mind you I won't lend her me Vivienne Westwood frock. I'm bein' buried in that.

But only when I'm dead, mind.

Ah yes. That's all sorted. I'll be in me glass-top coffin in the Vivienne Westwood, carried by the ex-husband (on his own), to the strains of Josef Locke's 'Blaze Away' and I want none of that happy nonsense. The daughter has strict instructions to be distraught and inconsolable and sobbin' over the coffin. If she can't manage that she must carry half an onion in the hanky at all times, or else I'm comin' back to haunt her.

    Hurrah.

Morning folks. Heck - I missed a busy day yesterday - not to mention missing the golf ARF.

    Why?

Well, at 10.45 yesterday morn, Mr Diva called me at work, told me to listen and not to panic and that he was at the docs and they were calling an ambulance to take him to hospital.

    Don't panic? Yeh right ....

So, off I flew, the Micra in overdrive, popped home to pack a few things for Himself and then went to the local hospital (some 20 miles away with lots of roadworks en route).

He was in A&E on a trolley, drip in his arm about to be given morphine. It would seem Mr Diva has appendicitis.

So, to cut a long story short, a whole day was spent at the hospital in a chair, reading a book while he drifted in and out of morphine dreams. He was admitted onto a ward at about 5pm, seen by the consultant an hour later and when I left at just after 7.30 he was being prepped for his op. I rang the hospital late last night and he eventually came out of theatre at 11.30 pm.

So, this morning it's a trip into town to buy nice man things to keep him occupied whilst in the Hotel NHS - I'll even lend him my (pink) iPod.

Don't be fooled by my cold hard reportage - when they were explaining the procedure to him I was the one bawling my eyes out needing tissues and cold water .....

So, an eventful few weeks in store being wife/nurse/breadwinner etc etc. This blog may just be my salvation!!!!

We also have the small problem of an aborted weekend in London next weekend. Gotta offload concert tickets for Friday night (Scissor Sisters) and theatre tickets for Satuday night (Phantom of the Opera) ... or just write the money off as these things can't be helped.

    Heck!

Right, thanks for listening/reading - better peg out the washing before the heavens open (again!) then try to de-puff my very puffy eyes.
