FIRST IT WAS DAVID CAMERON NOW IT鈥橲 DANIEL CRAIG

Chris Evans | 09:11 UK time, Monday, 13 November 2006

This was the year I turned forty, no big deal, actually I quite enjoyed it and am still doing so, there鈥檚 something reassuring about it. This was the year I started my beloved drive time show, the best job I鈥檝e ever had. This was the year I finally began to accept the un-understandility of girls, what a relief that was. This was the year I gave up trying to get my mum to tell me what she puts in her delicious hot pot that makes it taste so unbelievable This was the year I found the flat I have always wanted. This was the year I learnt to forage. This was the year I embraced technology, acquiring a mobile phone and starting this blog. This, in short, has been a blimin鈥 great year, an absolute belter.

贬翱奥贰痴贰搁鈥

鈥his has also been the year, when for the first time in my life, the leader of the conservative party is younger than me. Now that was a toughy, though after a small period of counselling and some meditative self worth classes I did manage to come to terms with it.

BUT THEN WHAT HAPPENS ?

BOND ! JAMES (I鈥橫 OMLY THIRTY EIGHT) BOND.

THAT鈥橲 WHAT.

Yes, dear reader, if you are 39 years of age or more, you are now older than the world鈥檚 favourite secret agent.

Daniel Craig, what are you doing to us ?

What else is to come ? How about the day you wake up and you鈥檙e older than people who were actually older than you:-

TREVOR MACDONALD, PENELOPE KEITH, MELVYN BRAGG, DAVID DIMBLEBY, YOUR OWN SWEET MAMMA !

With every day that passes I feel a bit more panicky, in a good way. I figure the next ten years are going to be my best ever, there鈥檚 so much to do and I really feel like I鈥檓 in exactly the right place and frame of mind to take it all on. There鈥檚 not a moment to spare. Better get going.

Come Friday of last week, frankly, I couldn鈥檛 wait to be back on the groove, I was chomping at the bit, so much gathered, so much to talk about, new ideas to develop, more discussions to have and boy did bonfire night kick in the CHRISTMAS vibe. It鈥檚 time.

Hope you鈥檙e all swell and ready to re-engage.

What follows is now a photoless gallery of what I鈥檝e been up to over that last fortnight. It鈥檚 photoless because I don鈥檛 know how to post photos from my phone. However there is a very clever chap called Jonathan who I hope will paste in the gaps later. For now, I will describe what the photo is of and you can use your vivid creativity to construct your own image of how you think it might look. Check later to see if you鈥檙e right, or just hold that thought to avoid any possible disappointment in discovering the reality.

So there we are and here we go.

UK tombola kicks off this week. In the first week in December the show will be broadcast from four listeners鈥 homes. One in England, one in Scotland, one in Wales and one in Northern Ireland all in the same week.

We鈥檙e also looking for advent kids for the month of Yuletide although we鈥檙e not quite sure what we鈥檙e going to do with them. Does it really matter ?

There鈥檚 gonna be lots more mange tout, definitely more chaise longue and how about a decent seasoning of bonne da douche !

Good sex to you all and if not, there are millions of great books to read and well there you are.

I never realised David Cameron was so young! I turn 39 next week (Wednesday, same day as Boris Becker btw) so am definitely feeling old! My line manager at work is 10 years younger than me, where's the justice in that?!
Am looking forward to drive home this week as I'm in my 3rd week back at work after and 8 week absence and consequently this is my 1st week working full hours so finishing at 5 instead of 3. I'll be able to tune in for my 45 minute drive home, yippee!

Are you proud of all your blogees btw, achieving over 600 entries in your absence?

RE: being older than people that are older than you - I think I might be older than my actual mother, my grandma frequently refers back to the day she got married and says things like - you remember, the bridesmaids wore orange and such like. chocolate can be eaten without guilt - who cares what anyone else thinks when i pick up my second bar of the day.

its other peoples problem if they think i am too opinionated.

you dont always have to be so forceful when giving your opinions!

    and the most important one,

    its ok to just be.

I suppose the fact i have noted them suggests i am starting to think them, but i wonder if i will really believe them. Hit 30 this year and still not totally convinced on any of the above!!

    Heres my Monday offering!

A young monk arrives at the monastery. He is assigned to helping the other
monks in copying the old canons and laws of the church by hand.

He notices, however, that all of the monks are copying from copies, not from
the original manuscript. So, the new monk goes to the head abbot to question
this, pointing out that if someone made even a small error in the first copy
it would never be picked up! In fact, that error would be continued in all
    of the subsequent copies.

The head monk, says, "We have been copying from the copies for centuries,
but you make a good point, my son."

He goes down into t he dark caves underneath the monastery where the
original manuscripts are held as archives in a locked vault that hasn't been
opened for hundreds of years. Hours go by and nobody sees the old abbot.

So, the young monk gets worried and goes down to look for him. He sees him
banging his head against the wall and wailing,

    "We missed the "R" ! , we missed the "R" !"

His forehead is all bloody and bruised and he is crying uncontrollably. The
young monk asks the old abbot, "What's wrong, Father?"

With a choking voice, the old abbot replies, "The word was...

    CELEBRATE!!!"

    Dear Chris

Welcome back and a hearty thanks for saving us all from the last post. Who knows where it would have ended up. We were all stuck in an elevator at one point, playing word games to relieve the boredom whilst fantasising about who we wanted to rescue us. I say we, but unfortunately I suffer from mild vertigo and fear of lifts, so I refused to enter.

Glad to hear that you had a good time. If you managed to keep up with my own adventures, you will know that I am out of the woods, so to speak, and currently on a marketing frenzy of a book that I heartily recommend. Why? Because I wrote it, ha ha.

No, but seriously, there are indeed an absolute plethora of good reads out there. I don't see the incompatibility between good sex and a good read, so long as what you are reading is appropriately saucy. In fact, there may well be a syngergism.

To avoid the beady eyes of the moderators, I am using a clever code to market the book. If you can crack it, you are not only the way to a job at GCHQ, but are one step closer to owning something that you will possibly treasure for ever.

You know, the type of girl that hears the words "Bond, James Bond" sees a raised eyebrow and magically all her clothes fall off???(How did that happen (does any one remember Roger moore undoing that satin dressing gown with one hand by just gently pulling at one end of the belt!- and what's worse I'm sure she was Precious from Grange Hill)).
Anyway my panic is that if Bond is 38 is 34 too old to be a Bond Girl? Pussy Galore give me strength.....

The up shot is When my brother reached 40 I was ONLY 30! when I get to 40 he will be 50.... I will allways be little sister. AND this means I get the tag of Cool Aunty who takes there kids out to the pub to play pool and watch carefully while they get a little wobbley on weak larger instead of waiting for them to come home drunk after being out with their friends. The leprechaun and the Golfer

An American golfer playing in Ireland hooked his drive into the woods. Looking for his ball, he found a little Leprechaun flat on his back, a big bump on his head and the golfer's ball beside him.

Horrified, the golfer got his water bottle from the cart and poured it over the little guy, reviving him.

"Arrgh! What happened?" the Leprechaun asked.

"I'm afraid I hit you with my golf ball," the golfer says.

"Oh, I see. Well, ye got me fair and square. Ye get three wishes, so whaddya want?"

"Thank God, you're all right!" the golfer answers in relief. "I don't want anything,

I'm just glad you're OK, and I apologize." And the golfer walks off.

"What a nice guy," the Leprechaun says to himself. "I have to do something for him. I'll give him the three things I would want.

A great golf game, all the money he ever needs, and a fantastic sex life."

A year goes by (as it does in stories like this) and the American golfer is back.

On the same hole, he again hits a bad drive into the woods and the Leprechaun is there waiting for him.

"Twas me that made ye hit the ball here," the little guy says. "I just wanted to ask ye, how's yer golf game?"

"My game is fantastic!" the golfer answers. "I'm an internationally famous golfer now."

He adds, "By the way, it's good to see you're all right."

"Oh, I'm fine now, thank ye. I did that fer yer golf game, you know.
And tell me, how's yer money situation?"

"Why, it's just wonderful!" the golfer states. "When I need cash, I just reach in my pocket and pull out $100.00 bills I didn't even know were there!"

"I did that fer ye also. And tell me, how's yer sex life?"

The golfer blushes, turns his head away in embarrassment, and says shyly, "It's OK."

"C'mon, c'mon now," urged the Leprechaun, "I'm wanting to know if I did a good job. How many times a week?"

Blushing even more now, the golfer looks around then whispers, "Once, sometimes twice a week."

"What??" responds the Leprechaun in shock. "That's all? Only once or twice a week?"

"Well," says the golfer, "I figure that's not bad for a Catholic priest in a small parish."

    Ah gowan smile ;-))

I havent had the career I desire yet working for a charity, but again this must wait until ben needs a little less of me.

This is my problem I feel, I have so much I want to do, my biggest fear is regretting what I havent done, but it all feels to be abit on hold for now. I feel time passing by me and I am unable to completely use it!

However, so far I have had a ball, I travelled africa on my own, I experienced true friendship, I fell in love with a great guy (and out again unfortunately!), I experienced child birth and sang in a jazz band! Not too shabby!

I was sat in a jam at temporary traffic lights this morning and caught sight of a young father (well he was younger than me (38 ahem)) out for a walk with his young son. Son was quite happily playing with the fallen leaves that had gathered or been swept into large piles, picking up great handfuls and throwing them into the road, then giggling and smiling with every effort. Dad was watching proudly, but trying to gently ease his son further along their walk. It then became apparent that looking down the line of cars at the lights a majority of the drivers were enjoying this scene of innocent enjoyment and happiness. The lights had changed from red to green and back again. No one pressed their horn, or got irate that the cars weren't moving. Just for a moment the drivers were lost in a thing of beauty and wonder, the simple playing of a little boy, sharing a joyful moment with his father. How many of their thoughts had returned to their own childhood and moments spent with their parents? This is what life and relationships should be about, those special moments with the ones you love and that love you. Must phone my parents now for a chat

BRING ON THE FALSE TEETH AND WRINKLES !...I say. Heck, you only get older than Sports heroes' and Special Agents' ages ONCE....and hardly any of them know anything about secret green sauce and insightful blogs either.
Anyway, our age is only a number and shouldn't have much to do with describing who we are. We all deserve a bit more than that, surely.

Hello all and welcome back Chris

The picture of John Dory made me want to get in the kitchen. The thing is, I love cooking fish/seafood but actually like eating very little of it - John Dory being a pet hate.

I went to a hugely posh restaurant at the weekend (Andrew Fairlie's at Gleneagles). I love well cooked food and relish it when it is presented to me. However, maybe I had built it up too much in my mind as, whilst I found it good, it was just that. It wasn't OH MY GOD THAT'S FANTASTIC good. It was just good. A year or so ago I went to another posh place in Edinburgh called Martin Wisharts. That was unbeatable.

I am on my own tonight as my partner is house sitting and my son is with his Mum. So maybe I will try and recreate veal escalope in secret green sauce - if only someone would tell me the secret bit :)

Talking of secrets what is the secret of keeping your other half happy? If my partner is from Venus, I must be based in outer Pluto or something!

    see ya.

It's good to have you back - we missed you!

I had a milestone birthday earlier this year: I turned 30, and like you, I felt it was no big deal. However, the other day at work, I got a shock. I'm a teacher, and still think of myself as one of the youngsters of the staff room. That was until Phil, the newbie PE teacher dropped the bombshell that he was born in the 80's!!!

I bought my first record in the 80's (Adam & the Ants "Stand & Deliver"), had my first kiss, travelled abroad for the first timeetc. How can I be working with someone who was born then???

Just thinking about it makes me want a stiff drink.

But I'm thirtysomething, and I can't take the ale on a school night anymore...

    Hey Chris
I am so into your foraging vibe. 2 weeks ago I found a dead pheasant on the road. A beautiful bird; it looked just like it was asleep. Spurred on by my Robin Hood inspired children I picked it up. I rang my local butcher and he told me what to do with it.

2 weeks later, following "hanging" it in my garage I have plucked it and drawn it. (I did not photograph that bit due to bloody hands!!!) And I 'm only a girlie. RESULT.
Check out the pic on my blog.
There is something so satisfying about really preparing your own food.

My next little project is to make chestnut stuffing with chestnuts I found in a wood.

How about a chestnut feature on the show?

    We missed you!!

How Late am I today?? I just could NOT get to a computer till very late and then what with last episode of Spooks to watch.......Well I'm here now!

Should have seen me at my friends house! Was supposed to be helping her with feeding her twins! Went into living room, switched on radio at 5pm and sat in there (with door closed!). for the first 15 mins! Well I couldn't miss it could I? What a corker!

I knew, just knew, without having read it, what the blog was about today when I started recognising the names Chris was reading out on the show! Twas HAZEL LOVEs comment that did it for me! Brilliant! And well done all of you who got a mention!

    Great joke Big 'UN!

I am a mere 39. For me, I knew I was getting old when the First Officer AND the Captain of a 747 were both younger than me. :-(((.
This has just happened when I recently went to New York, a few blogs ago. Funny thing was, they were younger than the WHOLE cabin crew that trip:-)))).

After the initial shock, it was very enlightening to listen to them cos they were discussing, (much to the delight of all us "oldies"), how sexy and attractive they find older women! They both said that even though they would never claim to not look at younger women, they go for the older ones! According to them, older women know their own minds, know what they like/want in b*d, are good in b** due to their experience, are comfy in their skin, confident and that all those things are an aphrodisiac for them!! HURRAY HURRAY I thought. Then I remembered they were pilots........!!!!! :-))))))))))))

Lovely to have you back you loverly darling creature. Lurved the holiday piccy's, so kind of you to share them with us! Especially your latest "pin-up"!!!!

Will try my best to get to this at a reasonable time tomorrow - sorry today!!

    Love Weezie xxxx
