SOFA NOT SO GOOD.

Chris Evans | 07:02 UK time, Friday, 13 October 2006

Get this one then, 鈥淚鈥 ended up on the sofa this morning under the itchy spare blanket again.

FEMALE FRIEND SWOOPS IN DOUBLE BED TAKE OVER COUP.

It鈥檚 all gravy.

Last night鈥

鈥 most of the team went for a THIRSTY THURSDAY quickie after work. I arrived home with a pal, the little worse for wear, her not me, the plan was to watch EXTRAS and then have some heated debate with the QUESTION TIME cats. I went to grab us a bottle of wine but by the time I returned I had one sleeping beauty commandeering the sofa.

This meant I had to sit in a chair that I don鈥檛 normally sit in to watch the telly, you know it鈥檚 a really good chair with quite a pleasing angle towards the television. It鈥檚 slightly more upright than usual which caused me to be a little more alert, I think I may sit there more often.

QUESTION TIME was alright but some people do talk absolute rot. Sooo annoying! Clive Anderson however was very funny.

Oh, did anyone see JAMIE OLIVER鈥橲 INTERNET THINGY ?

Now that I do think is exciting.

I am seriously considering doing an internet telly show, the idea that like this blog you can just 鈥渄o鈥, excites the hell out of me. I think a once a night thing, live around eleven would be swell.

I have an idea of what might help people go to bed with a smile. Something quite low profile, more intimate, more personal.

I was so anti the net when it started:

A. Because I was being particularly stupid and negative about everything at the time, and
B. Because I didn鈥檛 understand it.

Now I love it, the things you can do.

I think one of the major advantages of many services on the net like You Tube and E bay, for example is that providers are rated by the consumers, or by the number of hits a service receives. You are literally judged by every member of the audience who chooses to take a seat. In my game this could put pay to one of the biggest parasites the world has ever seen. The death of the critic. Yehhhhhhh !

How did critics slither their way in on the action anyhow? How did they get between the provider and the consumer, boooo, get out, you鈥檙e in the way.

Can you imagine having a job where all you do is watch what other people have created and pull it apart because that鈥檚 about the limit of your ability. What a soul destroying existence. It鈥檚 like not being able to cook but never being happy with what you鈥檝e been served, even though you have no idea where the kitchen is let alone how to turn the oven on.

Critics are like annoying big fat football fans, who can barely lift their pie at half time without getting out of breath, yet feel they still have the right to shout abuse and advice at supreme athletes. Ha ha ! what are they thinking ?

From 麻豆约拍 1 麻豆约拍 2 and ITV, when we were kids, to now MILLIONS OF STATIONS just a few years later. Free speech for all, what kind of show would you do ? Because let鈥檚 face it you can !

X

P.S. I鈥檓 glad you like the wizard story. The man behind the wisdom ? Mr. Deepak Chopra, go read, he鈥檚 a pretty cool dude.

P.P.S. The wizards have already done me a few favours since we last talked, bless them and their little pointy hats.

P.P.P.S. Off to golf, then the gym, then the show, then I鈥檓 gonna hole up for the weekend and think about what to do next and of course purloin some more stew from Ma. Evans. I LOVE IT.

Have a fab weekend kids,

Your loyal servant always,

C.E.

    Not all critics are horrible....

looking forward to tonight's show - fingers' crossed this one will be posted - have leanred lesson from yesterday.

I have to move, but don't know where to move to - I could live anywhere (as long as it's affordable), but don't know where to go - may go 100 yards away or even 100 miles, I really don't know - I will let my instinct and events guide me..

T'internet - I LOVE it!!! I use it every day - for work, for helping the kids with homework, shopping, keeping in touch with friends... I haven't got round to taking my laptop on holiday yet and have managed to go for two whole weeks without accessing the Web... but it's a struggle!

You Tube is fun, Yahoo Answers makes me think and research things I know nothing about, I find new recipes, get suppport for weight loss, I can chat online with several friends at once - having a virtual girls night (although that's a poor substitute for the real thing...) and I met a lovely chap via online dating, am I addicted????

The internet is being used in wonderful ways, have you seen 麻豆约拍 Breakfast this morning and the attempt to capture a mass Blogging snapshot of social history next Tuesday? Have a look at the Breakfast web site for more info... www.bbc.co.uk/breakfast

It's Friday - it's here! I am going to have a scary, but wonderful weekend (the risk thing...) and I intend to make the most of it!

Whatever you do, enjoy it! Fab Friday all,

I agree about critics, especially those who write for a certain daily paper. I don't know how they sleep at night.

This is probably a little irrelevant and not linked to chris's comments at all but your rant about critics stirred me up. I am sitting an exam today and I'm just a tad worried. How can someone judge what is in my head by what I remember in three hours today! They will criticise (or praise if I am lucky) what I have time to put down on a piece of paper! My course work has all been of a good standard but that could be worth nothing if I can't remember if it was Bowlby or Beveridge who created the NHS!!

So think of me at half past two, may the wizards wish me success (all wave your wands or something). It means I will miss the start of the show but it will be nearly over by then! And I heard a rumour somewhere that RVC are lucky so if they could send me happy thoughts that might help!

I can visualise your internet broadcast, a cookery slot, more sacre bleu than cordon bleu, where you start cooking the meal, and then disappear off with the wizards, fairies, drawrves, goblins or whatever else you want to call them and then stagger back some hours later, with a "guest" in tow. The inevitable, who is the sofa loafer? section. The what to have on your chips after a good evening out? question.
I actually admire your joie de vivre, and this evening after another long week of drudgery at work, it's time to trip the light fantastic and enjoy my time all weekend, just been poked in the back by the missus, so that is enjoy our time all weekend.
Only recently discovered the show, because I'm on the road a lot and R2 is the only prog I can keep with me all over the country and enjoy whatever time of the day or night. Love the blog, still a novice and think my greenness shows, but good fun all the same.

Oh and Barry Norman on a Wednesday in the Guardian - brilliant.

The wizard鈥檚 blog was great, one of the busiest yet, way to go bloggers! Oh wait am I able to have an opinion on that? I maybe feeling touchy this morning (don鈥檛 know why) and Chris hit a nerve with his comments on fat football fans shouting abuse at these (overpaid) athletes! Well maybe being fat would not permit you to do better than the athlete on the pitch but being fat does not stop you having an opinion how well these overpaid upstarts are performing. I am overweight; (shock!) so probably I am not allowed to say, only think that England played rubbish in Croatia? As I see it critics can say whatever they like as long as what they say can be justified and quantified especially if they have paid for the ticket to be entertained and paid for the pie of course :-). After all what a boring place this world would be if no one was allowed an opinion simply because of the size of ones belt! I think well I hope what Chris meant to say was that you can only be taken seriously as a critic on an event you have mastered in some way yourself as few of us on here could entertain on a radio show but still know what we like! :-)

Critics have a place in society and serve a purpose to keep our feet firmly grounded otherwise we will fall into the trap of believing ones own importance leading to an arrogance which to many is not attractive. When a critic writes a good review he/she is adored but when it is not what is expected he/she is ridiculed. Self defence another wonderful trait we humans have :-)

Happy Friday one and all! :-)))

Ok so I thought I would keep a hospital theme on today鈥檚 joke :-)

Did you hear about Tony Blair going to visit patients at a hospital?

The first patient said, "Fair fae yer honest sonsie face great chieftain o' the puddin' race

A little confused he moved on.

He walked on to the next bed where the patient said, Some hae meat an' cannae eat
And some hae meat that dinna want it
But we hae meat and we can eat
And say the lord be thankit

Puzzled he carried on to the next bed and the patient said to him, Wee sleekit, cowerin', timorous beastie O' whit a panic's in thy breastie.

He turned to the doctor and said, "Is this the psychiatric ward?"

"Oh no," he replied, "It鈥檚 the serious Burns unit!"

    Ah go on smile :-))))

I used to like Dermots prog on 麻豆约拍3 (was it called reloaded) with bands doing covers and there own songs together, whatever happened to it?

In terms of critics, I'm not a big fan of people who entertain themselves by making cheap shots at others - is it a form of bullying - I think so. Critics who are masters in that particular field are OK, as long as they don't criticize for the sake of doing so. (being a master in a field doesn't nesessarily mean they have done that activity, they could have studied it and been involved in it for yonks and yonks).

Yesterdays blog left me a bit speechless I spent a whiole thinking about where I would fit in - I don't like to float along and do follow my instincts which often leads to good things happening. I want to move at the moment but my instinct is telling me that it wouldn't be worthwhile so we may just stay put for a bit longer! Critics and wizards all seem to represent the same thing to me. While we may feel that we are judged by our actions the real measure is of our intentions behind those actions. A well meaning mistake hurts less than a deliberately aimed indifference.

One of the best pieces of advice I received from my family was to treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself, clearly advice no critic would ever follow, or many of the tabloids for that matter or our papers would be full of pink and fluffiness.

The wisest words I ever read and that have had the greatest impact on my life come from 'The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying' by Sogyal Rinpoche. Doesn't exactly sound a barrel of laughs I admit but it has everything a person could need to know in life.

"Because the law of karma is inevitable and infallible, whenever we harm others, we are directly harming ourselves, and whenever we bring them happiness, we are bringing ourselves future happiness."

In relation to Chris' blog today - I agree, and think it unnecessary to criticize for criticizing sake.......constructive comments for the potential viewer/reader/listener..fine. Beauty or appreciation is in the eye/ear of the beholder and comments and critique should surely be constructive and presented, in the main, objectively. Many years ago, one of our broadsheet papers employed a particularly vitriolic TV critic/team of critics in my opionion. The TV previews were often cynical, deprecating, never-a-compliment-could-be-given type critiques. I am not saying this as part of the 'there must be no competition/criticizing' culture but merely from the viewpoint that vitriol for vitriols sake is surely not part of these job descriptions/objectives.

On another note, I have realised the error of my ways (not for the first time!!) - I SHOULD have written my postings under a pseudonym!! - there are definitely things I would like to share with my fellow bloggers but won't for fear of recognition!! I could, of course, evolve...I could change my blog name in order to achieve anonymity, and given the fact that if I have an ego at all, it is the size of a single petit pois, I subsequently wouldn't assume my presence as 'Gaby' would be conspicuous by it's absence. I was once told by someone quite wise that you should never criticise what you haven't tried, although she was specifically referring to books. Thus, I've tried a lot of things and can confirm:
Mills and Boon books are predictable - however, if you want to believe in a fairy tale existence then they are for you
Lapsang Souchong tea really does taste as bad as it smells
Crunchy peanut butter and marmite does work although it sounds a strange combo

Anyway, it's foggy in Nottingham and I'm limbering up to Go Ape tomorrow swinging through some trees at Sherwood Forest, and then off to Matlock Bath tomorrow night for the illuminations, the fireworks and some chips whilst walking along the river. Sometimes being a grown-up is quite fun.

Hi Chris and everyone (I am starting to feel I belong!),

So much I want to reply to today! First, I have to say I don't believe just anyone can produce their own show - on the internet or otherwise. This requires talent and ... talent. I honestly cannot think of a single programme I could come up with - I wish I were creative, but it's not to be!

Didn't get to see Question Time - our 15 year old (beautiful but oh, so grumpy) daughter came into the living room and actually started talking to us! We were so stunned we felt we had to answer her, so the TV went off! Did see Extras - utterly brilliant. Don't know how Stephen Merchant and Ricky Gervais do it - just genius. (There's that word again!).

Critics - I do read them - sometimes it can be fun, especially if I agree with them. But they would never sway me from something I like.

Finally, I LOVE a really good chair! I have a really weak back after a terrible fall a couple of years ago and I can't live without my upright chair!

    C xx

P.S. I do love the internet, but it's dark side is pretty scary - I know people who are certainly NOT using it to order stuff from Amazon!

    Good morning Chris & All

During this 11pm show would we have a 'who's on the sofa' slot whereas we currently have a 'who's in the locker' slot on the 5pm show. Seriously though a late night internet show sounds excellent to me, we have the technology so we may as well use it.

I think you need to buy a really nice spare duvet for the peeps on the sofa, get yourself on a shopping spree and get one and a nice pillow too ..... you'll then end up with people fighting to get on there.

Re the wizard theme yesterday, here is one of those fascinating little facts .... The word "wizard" is one of only six words in the English language that when put in reverse alphabet code (a becomes z, b becomes y, etc) is coded as the original word in reverse, ie it comes up as "draziw". It is also the longest of the six words -- the other five are "by", "bevy", "grit", "trig", and "wold". ------ so there's another special thing about wizard's.

Off now to do other things that I should already be doing - have a great Friday everyone.

I'd much rather have a pint with you and all the lovely people on this site - then you might need a bigger sofa. This gets me thinking - i once heard that bono had a really wide bed that could fit seven people so that his children could just jump in as and when they pleased. Is this true?

My problem is that I am going on holiday tonight for 2.5 weeks and will not be able to access your blog for my daily quota! I am now wondering if I will have time (at work) to catch up on them all when I return! Ho hum!

I was, and still am, a great fan of Johnniw Walker and his Drive Time programme which I listened to daily as well. He was a hard act to follow but you have managed brilliantly and it is so obvious how you have 'grown up' since your Radio 1 days!

I will miss you all - at either end of my day (morning blog and evening radio) and thsi will be the only thing that I will look forward to upon my return to work!

This is only my second blog but as there is another Helen who blogs I am now 'Scottish Helen' for the obvious reason!

See you all in 2.5 weeks- keep the comments short so I can read them all.......

My son who is 14 discovered our beaten up record player and collection of 45's. He didnt understand how it works and was shocked that they only had one song on them when a CD is half the size. The down side for him is he finds it extremely hard to write but he can type as fast as he can think as all his homework is done on the PC.

Finally at 7.30ish, I got a different message, which told me I was nearly there but needed to update my media player. Tried to update media player, only to be told I first needed to update Windows XP. Started to update Windows XP, but needed LOTS of updating (story of my life). Finally got there, then started updating media player. Went out to post a letter (30 secs), came back and hubby had decided to switch it all off. GRRRRRRR. Needless to say, by the time I was ready, Jamie was no doubt tucked up in bed dreaming of his next money making venture.

Just glad I didn't buy all the ingredients with a view to cooking along with him!!!!!

I`m right there with you on that one ! As I mentioned yesterday - I was not a fan of the drive time drivel that my radio station was churning out. At 31 I felt far too young (terrible misconception !) to be listening to Radio 2 but I love it ! ... And although I don`t get in my car until 6 I now really enjoy my drive home.

    Everything happens for a reason...

This newly found blog has given me lots more food for thought... Just what I needed.

I`m going to go off course just slightly .....

A very wise, very good friend once told me things come in to your life (and people) in three ways - reasons, seasons or lifetimes.. Meaning something or someone appears when you need them to - a reason, more so a season or if you are really really lucky ( and I am) a lifetime. I feel blessed to be able to recognise my reasons seasons and lifetimes... I have friends that have come and gone but have served a reason or season and although didn`t work out in the long term I have learnt something from each and every one of them (and I hope them of me) The most wonderful are the lifetimes. I`m grateful every day for everything around me that has until this point been a `lifetime`.

Now this blog (and show) may be a reason or a season... Or who knows a lifetime ! But its definitely not a coinsidence that I found either....Someone or something somewhere knew I needed to be here...

Good Lord all too deep for a Friday !

    Work to do .....

Hoping you all have wonderful weekends and enjoy your reasons seasons and lifetimes :) x x x

Mmmmm well QT last night - not overly impressed. I have nothing against the Scottish in fact love em and the accent however seems that as soon as the show is based in Scotland the whole programme is around that area - which although gives an interesting insight into the way the Scottish HATE the english I just think maybe more constructive comments would be more useful. However having lived in Scotland for a while, many moons ago (age 22) Oh i remember it well - would never want to be back their either! Sorry back on track anyway having lived there and driving up past the River Clyde and seeing the Submarines I think the point about Trydent not being renewed if those subs were in the Thames was quite a valid one!
Legalising draw as well - i have a real battle in my head about this one. On one hand keeping anything illegal drives it underground which is no good for man or beast but during my psychology degree and now that i work for consultant psychiatrists the amount of young people who are affected by cannabis creating mental health problems like Schizophrenia is very frightening and you then see a destructive element of the drug. Being an ex smoker i know the joys of C but i also know that if you have naturally have an anxious personality you have to avoid stuff like this like the plague - it will just bring you down and make you low. So what to do by legalising it i suppose their could be more control as the amount of tetra in c now is ridiculous and the only way it can be controlled is by legalising it - right thats my conclusion then!
Anyway watched "This Week" afterwards i do love watching Diane and battling it out and i enjoy some of the humour and comments on that show - surprised you missed the gorgeus Nicky - Chris!

So the realms of the internet - well this Blog is great! Its a lovely way to get your opinion down to like minded people without worrying that your going to get judged and im afraid as i expect most people on here - i love to share my opinion - sometimes i talk b(&^%$ks and sometimes i make a lot of sense but whatever i say there is always thought behind it.

Its a bit like counselling, counselling being a way to help a client help themself to find the answers and i suppose by writing down what your feeling and thinking your kinda doing the same thing. I would love to do that set up an internet counselling service but i think i would want to also do the face to face because i think some people need that. At the moment where i am about to do my voluntary experience they are crying out for counsellors like the whole of the Mental health service - mmmm Emma thinking now watch this space xxxx

    Hi All

Argh. What was the post interview song last night? I missed it :(

I had a random thought following on from the critic discussion. How many industries have sprung up from one person coming between the public and the task at hand. Eg buying food, submitting tax returns or selling cars. For everything you do there is a third party willing to do it for you for a fee.

It is possible now to do so much via the internet. I guess what holds me back a little is the impersonality of it all. If I want food, I prefer to pick up what I buy, feel it and touch it. When I want legal advice I want to meet the person to see how I interact with them.

I think the internet is revolutionary for freedom of speech and thought but will it mean that physically using the vocal cords will cease? Our children are already losing the ability to write and spell. l8tr ;)

show ? Even if it is only on
"Children in Need" day. But "come as you are"
though, dinna dress up or anything (unless
it is C/I/N fancy dress) As far as I remember
    Beeb-3 progs don't start until 7pm anyway
so nothing would be being moved aside.

It's strange you mentioning the Internet
broadcasts, for some reason I was mulling over
on the way in to gym at 6am this morning that
I can't even remember if your show has a
    web-cam. I don't even remember you mentioning
it or anyone texting in commenting on it.
That got me on to thinking I'm not even sure
    you have studio guests other than your team;
everything is done by phone. Maybe I'm wrong
(like THAT would be a first!). Not "criticising",
just coming to realise a couple of "points of
    difference" to your predecessor.

In terms of critics, we all are critics and
prejudiced in our own way, positively or negatively
in as much as we choose whether or not to continue watching (or listening to) summat or whether or not we buy/read a certain newspaper. At one time I wanted to be a TV reviewer, if only to get previews of shows. I think I'm getting old though (as I keep mentioning, at 42) but I think that everything is negative; snipe snipe snipe. We get the press (for instance) we deserve.
I despair at the "sh*g and tell" mercheants but people buy it and so it goes on. I cheered loudly recently though when a girlfriend of former high profile TV presenter (we all know who) had her mobile phone stolen by a "friend" and tried to sell the pics on it to a newspaper. The judge in the case described it (as I recall) as
"a Grubby crime committed by grubby
people who should grow up" (apologies for perhaps messing up the quote). Now THAT'S a "criticism" I endorse!!

Question Time : as a Scot, I sometimes find the
    ones from Scotland embarrassingly parochial.
NOT that I am ashamed to be from North of the border;far from it.

Luke #38 : *I* had an 8yr old recently regurgitate to me the old joke (and like Luke, apologies to anyone who might be offended, none meant!) viz a viz
"Steevie, what's a fat bird and a moped got

    explanation of abbreviations &
emoticons & why. Bear with me....
(Jump to the **** if you
    don't want the explanation
    as to why people 'bothered'
    to do it)

    Abbreviations and emoticons have
    their history in text-based emails
and chat rooms.Long before the ability
to put "animations" in. It was really
a way to say lots in as few characters as
possible. It's hard to imagine now
but in days gone by (will you LISTEN
to me, 42 and sounding like my late
grannies) there was in some instances
a "limit" to the size of emails you
could send, almost in the same principle
text messages are currently limited to
    160 chars

When chat rooms and Instant Messaging
    (IM) became poplular the abbreviations
and emoticons migrated to there. Of course
you will see them in Blogs and text
messages too. Additionally you have to
remember that there was a time when you were
charged per hour for on-line time by the
message board providor, not to mention your
telephone bill - not always a local
call in the days long distance calls
COST - so you wanted to keep costs down
    for on-line contributions to Forums
or doing emails.(I can remember being
a member of one which was in excess of
$20 per hour). Later on, OLRs
Off-Line-Readers, came in to being, so
called because they logged you in, grabbed
all messages and logged off. You then
wrote / replied off-line (no telephone
or useage charges) then logged back in and fired
off your missives. On and off in minutes)

    *

Emoticons are a collection of characters
which make up wee faces if you tilt your
head to the left to view. Again they
came in to being when "text" was the
only option as opposed to the animated ones
you can download and use. For instance

    :-) is a smile

    :-( is sad

    :-O is shocked

    :-& is tongue tied

    =:-) is a punk smiling

There are others which are supposed to
indicate if you have a beard etc but
    I can't remember them

I've created a wee list below of the
    more common abbreviations,some of
    which,along with the emoticons above,
you may now come across in text
messages. If you think these are obscure, you
should see what I left out. But
it is strange how you learnt and
used the lingo AND how quickly
it comes back. I'm feeling all nostalgic!

P.S. If you are in a Chat room and
someone ask you a/s/l ? they are
    asking you age/sex/location
    or age/stats/likes, depending on
what type of chat room you are in!
(Allegedly, so I am told, he added
    a bit too hurriedly!)

Here we go (with apologies if the formatting
    doesn't come out right) :-(

Note that sometimes "the" is just implied
as opposed to having a "T" in the
abbreviation because "t" was also used for
"to". You may come across both
versions, eg ROFL or ROTFL for
    Rolling on (The) Floor Laughing.
You get used to it. Honestly!
Note also that nowadays (there I go
again!) in text messages where one might
write "t for to, one uses the number "2", ie

Aren't critics supposed to give us, the general public, a overview to enable us to make informed choices on what to do with our spare time. Chris you are right, if we don't like something on the internet we don't rate it highly. The saying goes, your biggest critic is yourself, wrong it's the YouTube audience.

So just for today don't argue back...that way they will feel good in themselves for winning an argument and you will feel good for knowing that you let them win the arugument...

Now multiply that by the number of listners / readers of this Blog and that's a hell of lot of happy people...

    Hello one and all,

Firstly re yesterday's show Christophe, it is illegal to pick up and take home anything you ahve run over on a road. However, if someone else runs it over you are perfectly entitled to pick it up though would it not be very squidged?

Yesterdays blog really has me thinking. Sometimes I feel life is just going so fast it's enough I can do to keep my head above water. However, I am a big believer in fate and destiny and having to read the signs sent to you. In my case I belive these signs are sent by God, but if you choose to disagree with that then that's fine by me. I do always worry a bit though that I won't see them or will see them and not have the courage to follow them up.

I hope that I am at least between a two and a three though. How awful must it be to go through your whole life as a number one?

The BigUn (by the way, I had imagined you to a be a tall, slim, gentle giant), you definitely shouldn't stop doing the jokes. Boo to the people who moderate. I send the jokes on to my friends who don't blog to bring them a smile and a laugh. My brother even tells them to the kids he teaches at school. Although he says they don't always laugh. But he thinks this is often because they know it will bug him if they don't. Maybe one day I'll post the one he sent back to me in return. Hope all goes well with your appointment.

I generally ignore critics. Most of them - especially for Tv, film etc - are just snobs about their chosen medium. If you like something then watch it. Talking of watching things didn't think QT last night was very good, although accents were great :o)

By the way, unless I missed it, no-one has commented on Monday's episode of Spooks. Just how good was that? What a great staory to write Ruth out of the show. Have to admit though that I sobbed through the last five minutes. Heartbreaking and a lesson to us all that you have to act on signs and feelings you get. They knew they were right for each other and loved one another, but didn;t act on it and missed out on what could have been the best thing they ever had. I hate it when that happens even though it's only telly.

Finally, I love the things you can do on the interent but like previous poster, find it can be very frustrating if you don't know exactly where to find something. Can I recomment everyclick.com as an alternative search engine. you can choose a charity and half the sites revenue is given to the nominated charities based on how much that charity's supporters (ie those who have chosen it as their charity) use the site.

Wow, I think that is the longest post have ever written. Was going to move seamlessly from critics into nuclear poltics but will stop instead. This time on a Friday doesn't seem the right time to do it.

Off to listen to the Arhcers now. Will David be able to dig his way out of marriage crisis? Grippping stuff.

Love to all and hope you all have a great weekend.

    Hi all :)

Well this is the first time i've actually been able to read the blog for two days, between travel and the 'net police at work i have been deprived of this most innocent of pleasures! I was given pause to wonder at how far one should go to keep a promise....when stuck in a traffic jam on the A1 during a 4 hour non stop drive i was beginning to wonder at the wisdom of busting a gut to go and see my ex in a play that she had already admitted was a bit shaky. Turns out there was great wisdom in it, it was the funniest thing i have seen in ages and i and my fellow audience members were crying with laughter at a slick performance of a hilarious script. Mayhap the wizards teaching a lesson? Incidently the play was Caught in the Net by Ray Cooney, go see it if you get the chance, it isn't exactly Shakespeare but then Shakespeare never made me cry with laughter.

Another thing on the up side, i got to listen to all of last nights show and loved it. Tonight's, as is every Friday, was a joy from start to finish, i love hearing the songs that get picked and reasons why....and the weekend stuff can be an eye opener lol.

A quick shout out to Big Un, best wishes mate and you sound like the kinda guy who makes 75% a certainty.

    Good evening all,

Tracey-Ann, I had to say something about both of your postings about Tony Robbins and people coming into our life for a reason, a season or a life time. I've always believed that our encounters with people are for a reason, perhaps it's to learn somthing that we need to learn "when the student is ready the teacher appears", and because I believe that we have choices, and can choose what feels right at the time, and we can choose our 'state' - how we want to feel.

I met my partner Nick at a Tony Robbins seminar, we liked each other and had similar business interests. It took us 6 months to get together after that (because I had declared a 'time out' interlude, and was travelling and studying NLP. He was persistant, and today we are celebrating our anniversary of "Ahem...." our getting together, and our subsequent engagement.

During the past year we have developed a self-coaching software application based on the disciplines and practices of Tony Robbins and other inspirational thought leaders including Joseph Cambell who developed the hugh body of research on 'The Hero's Journey'.

Your thoughts today seem to be a wonderful connection of those philosophies. Isn't that spooky?

I listened to the show tonight up until 6.40pm, at which point, our chicken stew could hold on no longer but I don't think they were able to honour. Never mind - it was a tall order : )

    Good Evening All,

I seem to be on a 'wizardly crusade' since reading yesterdays' blog. I wanted to share this with you.....

鈥淥ur deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.鈥

Marianne Williamson from her book 'A Return to Love'

I think that the reference to God, for me, is more about our own spirituality and self awareness. You may need to read it several times to feel it's essence.

    Hi One and All,
T.V........that's a subject close to my heart. I don't have one. I haven't had a TV for 11 years now. My kids don't seem to have suffered too much. They both love books, drawing, playing, being creative and using their imaginations. I gave in last Christmas and bought a portable DVD player so they can watch films/programmes on DVD. My recording studio is my telly. It's funny really because I've done so many televised gigs, including TFI a while back (I'm a backing vocalist) and never see them, which I prefer, as you tend to criticize yourself too much, and live music is just that, and should be enjoyed as that. It's a moment, and once you start reliving it, the magic has gone.
Returning to the subject of wizards and coincidences etc. Does anyone else have specific dates that feature in their lives? I have noticed that through my years, May 21 and November 5th are repeatedly significant in a life changing way. They are not all necesarily good happenings at the time either, but life changing none the less, like meeting boyfriends, splitting up, beimg proposed to, getting married, having children....the list goes on. Wonder what Nov 5th holds in store this year?
Has anyone else noticed significant repetetive dates? It can't be coincidence surely? Is it related to birthday dates? Chris, I too have April 1st as my birthday. How many times did you get an empty box on your birthday from someone as an April fool?
    Anyway, things to think about.

#61 - Tracey-Ann. Star Wars. I live and breathe Star Wars through my 6 year old. Often wake up thinking about it. It was the first thing he saw when we got said DVD player. He has all 6 episodes now and I think I know most of the scripts. They're cool. Ewan MCGregor in fighting form. Wouldn't mind being his padawan.

    Hi Everyone

I agree about critics Chris, so many of them are full of drivvle, did they actually see what you saw? I read in wikipedia dictionary this also refers to them - Criticism can also be a tool of an anti-social behavior, such as a passive-aggressive attack. Then if you look up the meaning of passive aggressive need I say more ha!?

I now live in Australia and I have to say Australians are the biggest most funniest critics of themselves! They take the p..s out of themselves on tv, in adverts etc and it so refreshing that they are not superficial and transparent like some people have sadly become in the UK.

I agree with you about coincidences guiding us. I came from a boring 9to5 in UK to finding so many things happened here by shear strangeness and coincidences I now have 2 businesses of my own. I knew no one here, yet I spoke to one person who gave me an idea I would never had thought of, that helped steer me in the direction I am now. I am happy with my life now, I work less, play more it can't be a bad thing can it?

I download your radio shows to listen on my ipod each day. Great work Chris you can still make me laugh even though I am in a land of funny people.

PS I still remember Johnny's tap an aussie girl on the head and watch ......... joke, hoping one day to aspire to such things hehe.

At first I just shared them with people I knew, but now my mailing list for them has gotten so out of hand I've had to put together a website.

The site is still in the early stages and I'm still working on it, but already word is spreading and I'm getting new people I don't know reading my stuff.

For the first time ever I understand why you do what you do, well I think so anyway, it's the buzz from making other people happy, having people you don't even know appreciate what you do and thank you for it. That's heady stuff even on a small scale.

Before the internet I doubt anyone other than myself would've ever read any of my creations.

Now there's a whole world of possibilities out there for everyone to take advantage of and who knows where it might lead.

A little weekend joke especially for you
There's 3 balloons, mummy balloon, daddy balloon and baby balloon. Baby balloon is now 6 and Daddy balloon has decided it's time baby balloon slept on his own so baby balloon is tucked up in his own bed. In the night baby balloon gets up and tries to get into bed with mummy and daddy balloon. First he tries mummy balloon but there's no room, so he just lets out a little bit of her air. There's still no room so he goes round to daddy balloon's side and lets out a bit of his air. Baby balloon then tries to wriggle in between them, but there's still no room so he lets out all his own air, woooooosh.
In the morning daddy ballon is really angry and he takes baby balloon aside. He says do you realise what you've done? Not only have you let me down, and your mother down but most of all you've let yourself down!

Very silly I know but it made me smile - happy weekend everyone and happy foraging Chris.

    Hello again Chris and friends
I can't believe you only have a sofa for people to sleep on - pleeeze upgrade to a larger flat - surely you have the money - if all your listeners sent you a 拢1 then you might be able to.When I was in London after living in the lonely bedsits (well not too lonely on some nights!) I managed to get a hard-to-let three bedroomed flat from the council. I don't think there are any like that now! It was great there was always someone who needed a room. Not so great when you were walking home alone at 12 midnight though! Anyway, where was I - not sure really - I've just watched Corinne Bailey Rae on the 麻豆约拍 tonight - it was wonderful - it made me cry. Think I must be hormonal. She is so talented. Do you like her? Anyway will go now before I ramble on too much - hope you have had a fab weekend eating your mum's stew. My mum died about two months ago and her cooking was so fantastic - I really miss it and her so much but losing your parents is one of life's hurdles isn't it. Do you ever email people on this blog? That would be great if you could just email one or two per day - or isn't it allowed or don't you have the time? Have you had that homeopathic Nux Vomica yet before bedtime? Honestly you will feel all bright eyed and bushy tailed the next morning after alcohol. You can buy it from the really well-known chemists or lots of other places - if you live near Marylebone High St their health food shop may have some. Anyway bye for now - can't wait for Monday morning's blog to find out what sort of a weekend you've had. We've just been staying in because we have a three year old.I think your weekend may be more exciting x

    Hi all,
Re "Daft as a Brush" for BEV D.

I have a memory from school history lessons that it was a term that came from victorian times and chimney sweeps. As we all know in those times the sweeps were children made to climb the chimneys. When the children were trainees they were dropped down the chimneys head first clearing soot as they went. They often landed on their heads and got knocked out or even killed! Those who survived often suffered some kind of brain damage hence "daft as a brush".

Sad origin really, hope that helps,
    Catherine

Wizards and signs are everywhere! but in the chaos of our waking life, to stop change and rid ourselves of the conditions of life that are socially thrust upon us is not easy!
I struggle on a daily basis i am a single father of two( one is not actually my son but love him like he is) and i share responsiblity.
This leaves me in s financially precarious position as i have to be at the school 3 times a week by 2.50pm. Very hard to find a job that fits in! i run a business so have some flexibility but the business(inflatables) needs constant re invesment so small income. i have other bits of work but my main message is of debt being the modern slavery! So we are for the most part locked in to our work and way of life. Still searching for what it is i love and should be doing!one message in chopras' book is something he said to his children, that we are here to fulfill our destiny, not just learn from school, take exams find a career.
Surely times are a changin and we see through most of this thin veil of illusion and come together as a people of peace and love not selfish and hurtful.

As to being a slave to society its hard as a parent isnt it - conforming to how people expect us to behave, blaming the fact your "single" on the reasons the way you child behaves in certain ways, not including you in things that other parents who are in couply relationships do. Personally i love the fact im single with my girl and i love doing anything that doesnt conform to society however i know that for my girl i have to also conform to a point x

I quite like irritating the critics though! I am in a band and because we dont fit into the goth or metal or rock genres all neatly and nicely (we spread out across them all and then incorporate one or two more for a laugh!!) they hate us!!!! Telling us over and over again that we are neither Nightwish or Lacuna Coil, something which we had noticed and are quite glad about! But if we churned out music that was a carbon copy of what had gone before, would we not also get slated by the critics for being unoriginal??!! It defies logic and reason!!
