Pet Shop Boys - 'Did You See Me Coming?'
I'm not sure why it's so inconceivable to me that the Pet Shop Boys should be close to celebrating their 25th anniversary as a pop-making entitly, and yet it is. I think it's partly an assumption, based on their own unchanging demeanour, that electropop duos shouldn't really age in the same way as leathery old rock stars. Which is an odd thing to think considering that even Kraftwerk (ask your futurist uncle) had to change their robot selves to reflect the passing of the years.
I should imagine the next iteration of Kraftbots will be sitting down, for starters.

Thoughts About This Song:
"You don't have to be in Who's Who to know what's what." - just one line as good as that would justify the Enemy's entire back catalogue. Even the recent stuff.
Neil Tennant's glassy whisper is still an acquired taste. One day I hope to go to the shop where they sell it and buy some.
There's a brilliant ghosty noise going on in the background. It's like they've employed a blue whale to shout at his mates.
The appearance of former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr in the introduction - even if you didn't know it was him, and had skipped past the bit where I just told you then, you could tell it's him just by listening. That's kind of hard to do with an instrument as ubiquitous as the guitar. Well done, everyone!
Sweet as it is, the chorus does slip by without sinking anything particularly clawful into the memory.
The middle eight, where it all goes a bit musical theatre, is rather grand.

And definitely the only band in the world who can call a song "Did you see me coming?", wink maniacally in a Carry On style and yet still maintain the high ground in the Pop / Art divide.
