Tinchy Stryder ft. N-Dubz - 'Number One'
It seems that, of recent weeks, some of the ChartBlog massive have begun to question our editorial rigour. Comments have been posted claiming that we are deliberately pedantic, that we often neglect to describe the music when we review songs, and that we're not objective. Now, leaving aside for a moment the fact that these are all fair points (and that we're doing it on purpose), can I just reassure everyone that nothing is more important to the CB review panel than the respect of our readers.
Well, nothing apart from pop music, obviously. Pop music and jokes about pop music.
Oh alright, so it's pop music, jokes about pop music, Twitter, Harry Hill's TV Burp, LOLCats and THEN the respect of our readers. You're still in the Top 6, and that's got to be good, right?
(...hidden behind FAR too many promotional messages.)
With that in mind, here's an attempt at an objective review (if that's not a contradiction in terms), balancing the good and bad things about this song and trying not to wander off the point too much. Enjoy it while it lasts!
Things I Like:
N-Dubz. Everything they do raises a grin to my chops. Dappy's insistence on throwing in a "nah-nah-naiii-hee" as soon as his microphone is switched on is a brilliant pop thing.
Tinchy's singy-raps, contrasting nicely with Dappy's rappy-singing. And I use the word 'contrasting' quite wrongly there.
Nice lyrics about feelings taking you over when you least expect them to. We've all been there, right?
"I'm telling you ONE THIIIING!" and the music stops. That's nice. Good chorus too.
The 'Bittersweet Symphony' synths. Not that I'm saying there's a direct rip off happening. I'm no expert in copyright infringement in any case. All I know is the Verve ended up paying a huge wad of cash to the Rolling Stones over the string refrain in that song, so it'd be a shame if Tinchy had to too. In fact, legal people, don't read this bit. Look over there instead. No, THERE! It's where the ice-cream van stops. Fancy a 99?
Things I Like Not:
Not being able to remember how the song goes once it's finished. I've heard it SO many times now, and yet it takes a bit of an effort of will to remember it. That's not a good sign.

Did I mention the promotional messages on the video? Yeah, that.

I love the album IN RAINBOWS as an entire piece of work so could not pick out a favourite song.....
They are a very important band.
My fave N-DUBZ track is PAPA......... MY FAVE TINCHY track is his duet with FRANKMUSIK of BETTER OFF AS TWO.

To be clear, my problem was with the predictions on this comments feed, specifically about the tussle between La Roux and Calvin Harris.
These were very close to the figures put out by the Official Charts Company in their mid-week charts - something I couldn't explain before Sunday's chart, for obvious reasons - and seemed to change as new information became available later in the week. (First you noted the tussle between the two acts, then you accurately predicted the winner).
If this is just coincidental, please accept my apologies. But I have to say - and this is for anyone - we'll take down any comments which break the confidentiality agreement the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has with the Official Charts Company.

Regarding the above I hope you know that anyone who knows music who listens to information could have worked it out! There was no crystal ball, supernatural powers or cosmic ordering !! (well not on this occasion !)
Calvin Harris was gonna challenge as he had been number one for two weeks... easy to guess !!!
Secondly La Roux has been out for 6 weeks and has increased sales each week and was at number 2 ! ...The song would obviously challenge ! Easy to guess !

My favourite radio station.
I listen to RADIO 1 quite often as music is obviously a huge part of my life.... and on some occasions throughout the week, when the excellent d.j's played the song "number one " there was an impliance that this song would be yes....NUMBER ONE !
Now when it became broadcast MIDWEEK that Tinchy and Dappy would be on the Sunday Chart Show with the brilliant Fearne AND Reggie , various comments were made as to possibly why they would be there at that time... you did not have to be amazin to figure it all out !
I think one of the entertaining comments were :
"Wouldn't it be embarrassing if they came in and the song was NUMBER TWO ?
Fraser... as clues go.... you must admit that was the clincher !
