Beyonce vs Wonder Woman

How many mirrors do you suppose BeyoncΓ© has in her house? Just a few? Several? Flipping loads? I bet it's even more than that. Think about it, she's no stranger to extensive dance routines - and we all know that dancers enjoy a full-length mirror - she's very well turned-out at all times, and she has a very winning smile which is never, ever tainted by rogue strands of spinach or vanilla shrapnel. And now, with the release of her third solo album, fresh proof has emerged that the former Destiny's Child is now using her own reflection to help her make creative decisions.

What else could explain the album's title and concept - which is basically one CD devoted to the whole "I Am Sasha Fierce, Hear Me Roar!" thing, versus another CD which is more "and also I am a person with real feelings" - than a long night staring across a dressing table and thinking of ways to subvert your own public image?

Don't just take my word for it either. BeyoncΓ© told the LA Times that this is all about creating new personas for herself, so that she can really express the various different personas she adopts in her working life: "I have someone else that takes over when it's time for me to work and, when I'm onstage, this alter ego that I've created that kind of protects me and who I really am."

"That's why half the record, 'I Am...' is about who I am underneath the make-up and all the exciting drama. And 'Sasha Fierce' is the fun, more sensual, aggressive, outspoken and glamorous side that comes out when I'm onstage."

And these aren't the only personas Madame Knowles is looking to take on, as she has revealed an interest in playing the part of Wonder Woman (in a film. Can't stress that part strongly enough).

She said: "I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It's time for that, right?"

I'm not sure which of her selves she was talking to at the end there, but you can bet the answer will have been something along the lines of "HELL YEAH!"

It did get me thinking though, which pop stars would make good superheroes?

Pete Wentz could be the Flash, for example. And not just because he's quick on his feet.

Johnny Borrell clearly believes he is Mister Fantastic, and not just in a superhero sense. Which is, at least, a step below Kanye West, who must see the first black Superman staring back at him every time he looks into a spoon.

50 Cent would make a good Hulk. But he lacks the crucial self-loathing to be the Thing. These things matter, if you know your heroes. And for sheer bratty hot-headedness, who could beat Eminem for the role of Human Torch?

Then there's the beautiful Nicola Roberts, whose skin is so clear and white that she practically IS Invisible Girl without needing a special costume or anything.

Meanwhile, back in Gotham City, millionaire playboy Bruce Wayne is putting on his box-fresh trainers and cracking open a bottle of own-brand champagne, after a hard night battling villains, dressed in a bat costume. His butler Alfred comes in, looks over, and says "hey! Aren't you Jay Z?", to which he responds "No! Has Wonder Woman called?"

SuperMikaAnd if there's a better pop lookalike for Plastic Man than Mika, I'd be very interested to hear about it.

In fact, this should really be more of a forum than a lecture. So, over to you.

Pop stars who would make good superheroes - Ready, steady...GO!
