   Here in the US, the hype for these concerts has not been as big as that of the Diana Memorial show. In fact, the one major cable network has been showcasing artists inbetween big blocks of news. So, the whole thing, at least on my end, has been quite easy to ignore.

   IMHO, the Arctic Monkeys were right in calling out the hypocrisy of this whole event. Besides, I'm a Cali girl, I do environmentally oriented stuff as a matter of course, anyway. Yawn...

Live Earth's goal was to raise awareness and fight global warming right?    davey, im completely with you about when you said you first supported the gigs then changed your mind. but although everyone knows about the problem of global warming, whens the last time you had a talk to your friends about it? i study environmental science at a-level and am a member of our sixth form environmental group, green peas. talking about it is one better than just knowing about it, and one step on from that is action. its like at the recent g8 summit they agreed to make an agreement on global climate change in the future - how exactly is that helping now? ok, that turned into a rant. more to the point.. in the uk we're lucky, our government supports tackling climate change, the leaders of our biggest companies eg tesco etc are trying to reduce their emissions and our media isfull of useful info, its not like this in most countries. my second cousins visted the country recently from south africa and they called me a tree hugger for mentioning the subject. so, perhaps just talking isnt a step forward in this country but in others its the second step on the ladder.

The producers etc of it didn't say 'oh yeah, by this concert we're going to make everyone change to energy efficient lightbulbs' and all that. They used this concert to make people realise what effect we're having on the CO2 emissions (sp?) etc we're releasing. And it had effect on some people in some ways because here we are talking about it now. I know I partly realised that I am not very energy efficient. And I think that they are at least trying to make us realise we need to do something. That's better than sitting back and watching the world heat up till it's gradually a big ball of fire. And the impending doom instead of global warming bit was funny. Fall Out Boy sucked, but Red Hot Chili Peppers were good, with the Smashing Pumpkins and Metallica rocked. Highlight of the day! Madonna sucked as well. Whew...all talked out. See yaz!
