Gareth Gates - 'Changes'

Gareth GatesLook everyone, it's Gareth Gates, remember him? Well basically he's back, he's all grown up and now he's a MAN. A few people are quite excited about this, there's even been some minor hype going on and EVERYTHING. But is it justified, or has absence been doing that 'heart grows fonder' thing again?

On first impressions it is with slight guilt (dissing this chap is quite like kicking a puppy) that I have to say this really isn't an impressive, brand new, shiny contribution to the world of pop. It's a drippy, not particularly catchy, disappointment. Do we really need more wispy vocals in the world? More piano and more wafty noises that sound like a mixture of sighs and blahs?

But before we shove the poor guy back to where he came from, let's at least try and be fair and look at the positives. The lyrics aren't half bad, which does infer Gareth getting a say of what goes on in the music department could lead to good things. Maybe we just haven't heard them yet. The twinkly xlyophones (which is possibly the craziest this track gets) are pretty easy on the ear too.

At the end of the day there just isn't enough in this to make me - the most timid decision maker in the WORLD - grab it with both hands and refuse to share. Shame, I reckon he'd fit right in my pocket...

It sounds as if he's sampling Radiohead in the background. Still rubbish though.

I have to admit that the first time I heard this I hated it, I thought it was yet another ballad from our Gareth.
However...the more I hear it, the more I find myself humming along and remembering lines from it. I even find myself actually singing bits when its not on anything I'm listening to!

There are stronger songs on the forthcoming album, Angel on My Shoulder (being played on Radio2) and Lost in You (A snippet could be heard on his MySpace)being prime examples. I think Gareth has to prove himself now more than ever and this single just isn't going to do it for him sadly.

Well i must say, i was so hyped up for his comeback single 'Changes' but as it got played and played, over and over on the radio, i started to get the impression that it was a good single but lacked just that little bit of energy that all of Gareth's other singles seem to have.
Being a Gareth fan 'Right from the Start', should i say, he has had such an impact on his fans as a whole. Once he realeses one single we are all ready and begging for more!
Good luck to GG, i love you, and all your fans know how encredibly talented you are! Were all behind you!
    Love Buffy xxx
