Scissor Sisters - 'She's My Man'
Some songs seem to only exist as a direct challenge to reviewers. Not that I'm saying writing your thoughts about popular music is a particularly challenging thing to do, it's just that when there's one really massive and obvious thing to say about a song, the problem becomes how best to do it.
Do you throw it out there at the beginning and move on to other, less obvious points? Or ignore it, and then look like you haven't spotted it? Or spend the entire review building up to it (like I am now) and then put it at the end in a big flourish, and run the risk of making too big a deal of the situation, or worse, spoiling the song for the people who like it.
So, in the spirit of compromise, I'm going to just say the big thing about this song now...here goes...
There, that feels a lot better. That's a load off my mind. I was worried I was going to make a bish of that. But the words just came to me at the last minute, like a special gift from the heavens or something...
So, everyone have a nice weekend? I did. I went to the fair!

I would just like to say that any self respecting Scissor Sisters Fan knows whole heartedly that Jake and co are very much inspired by Elton John, David Bowie and even pink floyd. So maybe some of there songs do sound a bit similar to other songs released by various artists. Return to Oz (Scissor Sisters) is quite similar to 'Ground Control To Major Tom' and maybe 'She's my man' is a bit like 'I'm Still Standing' but at the end of the day, surely this is a tribute to these great artists? 'Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery' comes to mind. I would also like to point out that Elton john is a MASSIVE Scissor Sisters fan and even distributed their frst album to all his friends so they could see the genius that is Jake shears, Ana Matronic, Del Marquis, Baby Daddy and Paddy Boom. Oh, i would also like to add that Elton John contributed to Ta-Dah! ... he wasnt forced to but instead found it a pleasure working with artists who have put the fun and liveliness back into todays music when the charts are so dominated by misery, depression and droning voices. And at the end of the day, with two years of sell out arena Tours under the belt they cant be doing to badly can they???

Having said that, it's kind of obvious that Sir Elton would like the Scissor Sisters so much, isn't it? They do remind people of a lot of his best songs, after all...- Fraser]

Scissor Sisters always give an incredible contribution and variety to modern popular music.
I appreciate that some of their songs sound similar to other just Legendary artists such as Elton John, David Bowie etc, but these artists were amazing, and keeping their style of music alive and in a fun and energetic way like the Scissor Sisters do is a gorgeous way of preserving some of the best music!
I would also like to point out that in Elton Johns book, the Scissor Sisters are mentioned twice, each in an admiring way. Elton John thinks the Scissor Sisters are amazing, and he even said himself some of their stuff sounds like his, but its still incredible.
I am a huge huge huge Scissor Sisters worshipper, a proud member of the Scissorhood; me & my sister have put a huge SS Logo on the back of her car to prove our devotion, I am also getting the logo tattooed on, and have got their amazing two disc delux album of Ta-Dah, and we are also travelling all the way to the MEN Arena in July to see them on stage.
Last year we went, and it was packed. Surely this is enough to prove that they are amazing.
Scissor Sisters have been called 'Britains top adopted sons and daughters'.
So, dear fellow Scissorlows, and those who are too hasty to judge, please remember what I have told you, and next time...
... Look into things before you jump on the bandwagon. =)

So what exactly was the big thing about the song...
Grant its not as good as I Don't Feel Like Dancing, but it is SO much better than Land of a Thousand Words...
And what exactly is the theme/point of the song, I fail to understand...

Glad I'm not the only person to have noticed the similarity... Not close enough to make a writers credit necessary for sure, but without doubt heavily inspired by Elton John..
