Celluloid Sensuality

Raj&Pablo | 13:04 UK time, Wednesday, 10 December 2008

Its been a quite a thought provoking week for all, the aftermath of the Mumbai attacks is still ongoing and there is a general sombre feeling prevalent from all in Bollywood. The sentiment is that the scars will heal but the industry is still coming to terms with the situation. To paraphrase the saying - the show will go on - but it will take time.

Your reactions to our SRK interview this weekend were amazingÌýand one of the best things were that everyone seems to have a favourite SRK movie magic moment that is totally personal to them. We were so glad to play a huge selection of his songs which had you all, and us,Ìýfoot tapping.

This week sees the release of Aditya Chopra's "Rab Ne Bana De Jodi" and expectations are high. Will SRK and Adi recreate the magic of "DDLJ"? Early reports are good and all fingers are crossed and on Sunday we talked to choreographer VaibhaviÌýMerchant whoÌýwas on the wayÌýto change forÌýthe preview and revealed that she is amazed at SRK's energy andÌýhow much of a perfectionistÌýAditya is.ÌýÌý

This weekend we had a Q&A session for a Raj Kapoor season which is running in London. We were there to talk about one of our classic favourites, "Satyam Shivum Sundarum", which first released 30 years ago.

Raj: Apart from our conversation withÌýSRK one of the surprising things about this weekend was your reactions when we mentioned "Satyam Shivum Sundarum," in passing onÌýSundays show.ÌýIts amazing how a movie can be ingrained in memory. A lot of you mentioned the impact it had on you - sheer unadulterated sensuality on screen,Ìý the first time you had seen Bollywood stars kissing on screen and how shocking it was for your parents. It totally reinforces my belief that Zeenat Aman was the original Bollywood sex symbol and an actress of calibre.

Ìý

Pablo: Like a lot of you who got in touch on Sunday's show, I was vaguely aware of the impact Zeenat Aman had in her groundbreaking performance in Raj Kapoor's "Satyam Shivum Sundarum." I watched it recently and Zeenat Aman just oozes a shocking sensuality on screen, the temple scene is with Zeenat and the shivlangum is so ahead of its time and combines religion and sexuality that reminds me of Madonna and her take on theÌýCatholic church.ÌýA must watch movie."Ìý
