There is an episode of HBO's 24/7 Pacquaio Hatton series which shows Manny taking a blood test 24 days before the Hatton fight. Dan Rafeal of ESPN has noticed that and is looking for answers from the Pacquaio camp.

It simply does not add up!

Yes just what we want to see, Paquaio fight Malignaggi and Mayweather fight the younger Hatton! How exciting!

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease do not let this fight disappear into a courtroom farce, super fights like this do not come around that often. Such a contest would actually justify pay per view for a change.

Personally, I beleive the boxers teams have hired some professional hype merchants, and this is all a publicity stunt that makes David Haye's antics look amateurish. There is way too much money at stake for it not to happen. And when it does the hype merchants will have earned every penny.

Malignaggi is not fit enough to fight my grandad. Why is Paquio looking to fight him???? Boxing is not in that much of a crisis like this article makes out but it would be great if Pretty Boy Floyd faced Manny. Amir Khan would knock Mathew Hatton and Ricky Hatton half asleep . Mayweatehr ducked Mosely Margarito Cotto and Paul Williams. Mayweather is a joke!

Does anyone know how much benefit someone could get in a blood-test-free 30 days, if a test had to take place immediately after the match?

Manny is tarnishing his reputation by refusing to have the random drug test before the fight. For all the accusations of grandstanding levelled at Mayweather, if Manny had nothing to hide he would accept to the demands, get into the ring, knock him out and then he can say "I told you so!".

What I don't get is Manny says he won't do it within 30 days because if affects him, yet Roach quite clearly said on a sky sports interview that he'd happily enough take the random testing aslong as there are no tests within a week of the fight. How can they say such different things? It doesn't look good if the trainer knows his fighter is fine aslong as he has 7-10 day window before the fight without the test, but the fighter claims its 30 days. This does not look good for Manny - Mayweather in one request has all but destroyed his reputation.

The fight doesn't happen: Pacquaio fights Malignaggi who Roach wants to fight Khan - If Khan can beat Malignaggi (and Hatton can) why would you go for this fight? They gain nothing. Mayweather fighting Matthew Hatton? Please it would be a disgrace to Britain if Mayweather's first fight was against him (no disrespect to M. Hatton but your not even in Ricky's class so how can you expect to win). Both camps risk the reputation of their fighter by going after anyone but eachther.

For Pacquaio one thing to remember: Once people question if you've taken drugs your reputation is mud.

I find it hard to imagine that Manny would be so determined to boost his pre-fight training that he'd use steroids in the 30 days prior, but little enough to be clean immediately pre-fight. He's claimed the blood tests affect him physically, and this seems to make sense. Is it therefore not more likely that - in the build up to (potentially) the richest fight in history, to (likely) determine who is the greatest fighter of our era - Manny just wants every possible aspect of his preparation to be as effective and as stress-free as possible.

I would like the Mayweather fight to go ahead and for Manny to demolish him. Either fighter committing to the likes of Hatton Jnr/Malignaggi would be a huge disappointment.

I do wonder if Pac-man's camp haven't walked straight into a bear trap laid by Mayweather. So much of big time boxing can be about a boxer's state of mind before they even step in the ring - and Mayweather seems to have got right under Manny's skin.

What looks on paper a fight too close to call may be over before the opening bell even sounds unless Pacquaio can live with the Mayweather camp's pyschological warfare better.

The really horrible thing is that I never got hyped-up about this fight in the first place; not because of the qualities of the fighters, but because I never truly belived it would happen.

I expected rows and financial demands and accusations to fly and obfuscation. Sadly that's exactly what is going on, and I have extremely low belief in it getting cleared up.

Firstly, Pacquiao never said he doesn't want to be tested. He just doesn't want blood drawn days before a fight because it weakens him. Whether there is scientific evidence that his belief is true or not doesn't matter. It's his belief and boxing is just as much mental as it is physical.
What's wrong with having the test done immediately after the bout? Surely, any illegal drugs that would have been present days before would still be in his system minutes later.
Also, Phelps and Kobe did not have blood drawn days before competing. Please do some research before commenting.
This article is just a rehash of articles from other publications. The problem is, it's not accurate or even up-to-date!

What Manny meant as "obvious reason" is that it happened to him in the first Erik Morales fight that blood was drawn from him two days before the fight. 30 days prior, blood was also taken from him but for unknown reason, NSAC claimed that the result was lost...so they have to take blood again from him or else the fight may not push through.
In an interview in the Philippines after the fight, he attributed his lost to that. He said that 30 mins after the blood was drawn, he felt dizzy. And during the fight, he felt that his punches were not hurting Morales.
Blood-testing days before the fight may not hurt other athletes, but it hurt Manny...and he believes it. Who are we to say that it did not?

After reading Dwain Chambers' book he goes into detail about using performance enhancing drugs and the athletes go on a set routine of when they take them and when they dont. This allows the athlete to know what days their blood would show up with drugs in and what days wont. Manny not wanting random tests certainly doesnt look good with what i read from Chambers.
Manny says that taking blood weakens him but its not like they take much. When you donate blood they tell you that your body has reproduced the blood cells within hours and you donate a hell of a lot more then.

It doesn't matter what the Mayweather camp said or implied, a reasonable person will now think that Pacquiao is a cheat. People are labelled cheats not if they are caught but nowadays if they resist tests or fail to show for one. Pacquaio needs to wise up and realise that outside his home-country his reputation will be permanently tainted unless he agrees to be tested like any other major athelete.
As for the court proceedings they will never go as far as a trial. More hot air and posturing. However we will see this fight happen within the next 2 years. Too much money at stake for all interested parties whether their fighter wins or loses. That is what boxing is ultimetaly about: money.

I'm amazed at the credulity of the boxing public. Mayweather claims Pacquiao has been taking performance enhancing drugs. He produces no evidence but speculation and hearsay. Suddenly Pacquiao's reputation is "in tatters" or "at risk". Get a grip; until evidence is produced there is no story.

When Pacquaio fought Morales the first time he was cutting weight drastically already, eating only one meal a day, dehydrating himself to make the weight. Put yourself in his shoes and then tell me if the additional strain of having blood drawn from your system two days before the fight will not affect you. You cannot even replenish your body with proper nutrition and then blood is drawn from you still. Doctors will tell you the blood can be replenished just drink plenty of water, how can you do that when you are in fact cutting weight? pacquaio will be mentally affected if blood is drawn from him close to the fight. so quit commenting if you do not know the facts.

If they'll do this tests (which more than nevada boxing commission requires) to Manny Pacquiao, then do this tests in all the Boxers, the word EQUALITY is in the air. Mayweather IS JUST AFRAID. Pacquiao's been tested negative against any form of illegal drug in his entire career.PACMAN got his pride and honor as a sportsman,and he will not BOW to any outrageous demand from GBP and Mayweathers.

Mayweather knows he will get beat, so he is getting his excuses in early and looking for an edge outside the ring. He knows about the blood issue from before and is trying to change the rules to aid his chances.

I think you're missing the point regarding Pacquiao's refusal to agree to the tests.

Whether they are acceptable or not, Mayweather and his camp have absolutely no right to decide whether the sport's testing standards are sufficient. Mayweather and Golden Boy are so deluded as to believe that the boxing world revolves around them. It is arrogance in the extreme.

It is also disparaging to Pacquiao, a fighter who commands total respect from all corners of the sport for the entertainment that he provides and the respect he gives his opponents, and who has a spotless record when it comes to drug testing.

I believe it is a clear attempt from Mayweather to once again avoid a dangerous encounter. What a shame that the most talented fighter of the last 20 years lacks the respect and the courage to really test his skills.

Mayweather must be rubbing his hands together. I think he threw it out there just to get a psychological edge over Manny and now not only is Manny pulling out of the fight but his integrity is being questioned.

Dr. Catlin heads the UCLA Olympic Analytical Laboratory said in 2003 that currently, to be convicted of an EPO offense athletes must test positive for EPO with the urine EPO test. The whole interview here.

I found an interview with Pacqauio on a Philippine television posted on youtube. The interview was made back in 2005 after his lost to Morales. The date of the interview can only be verified by the end of the video where they mentioned about the upcoming rematch against Morales. Pacquiao definitely have a fears on having a blood test few days before the fight

Note: This interview was conducted in tagalog..but basically he was saying that the Nevada commissions' record of his blood sample was misplaced and they needed to draw another sample. The blood was drawn 2 days before the fight. Pacquiao said he felt weak after that.

What Mayweather is really telling the public is just how much he respects and fears Pacquiao. He had a hard time with Ricky Hatton and Oscar de la hoya, and watched both of them be subsequently destroyed by Manny. With this ridiculously concocted ploy, he's literally telling you that he cant believe how much he's improved in overall skill and that he doesn't think he can beat him. His own father pretty much intimated as much after watching him take punches that would have seriously hurt his son, and seeing Manny hurt Cotto with the type of bombs that Floyd isn't capable of. Any Mayweather fan reading this has to be honest and come to grips with it. If his father trained Hatton and had the blood drawn that close to the fight, then "obviously" we know he wasn't dirty for that fight, and its now logical to conclude that Floyd Sr. suspected something after his fight with Oscar. All Manny has done is overcome long odds all his life, most of which has come while being an underdog. He is battle tested and has avoided no one. Never offers excuses or has played games. You cant attribute those qualities to Mayweather. He wanted to do everything he could to avoid this fight rather than jeopardize his health (and it would be in jeopardy) against someone who would put him at a speed, power, and conditioning disadvantage for the 1st time in his life. More than any other fighter he has avoided (pick a name), Manny represents the worst possible match-up for Floyd because he's a southpaw on top of that. He knows he would have to go the distance, and suffer in ways he's already imagined. I got a very real sense from Mike Tyson before he fought Lewis that he didn't think he could beat him. I knew it. I see the same dread in Mayweather. With this scandal, he's telling the world that he knows Pacquiao will maul him.

The beginning of your post shows a lack of boxing knowledge taznj. Mayweather fought ODLH at 154, Pacman fought him 18 months later at 140 ish. It was sad to see that fight happen, ODLH was washed up and completely weight drained (to such an extent that he couldnt keep his hands up).

As for Hatton, I think he just didnt give pacmans punching power enough respect and paid for it. I am reasonably certain that Mayweather would also destroy hatton inside two if hatton just walked forward with his chin out. Regardless, Mayweather completely outboxed Hatton then knocked him out in what was an impressive performance.

Thank goodness you don't get any of this rubbish in the UFC.

Mayweather is only asking for one thing in the negotiations, having already agreeing to Manny's requests for the ring size, glove weight & $ penalty for being over on the scales..

Peopel may say it isnt his place to set the drug rules but he is only asking for it in this fight. If Manny is clean then no problems, HGH wont show up in urine tests & can be out of the system in days so random testing is needed for both fighters.

Manny beat a washed up & already schooled Hatton this year & De La Hoya was so drained it was a sad sight.

I have stated before styles makes fight & just because 1 fighter beats another more convincingly means nothing. JMM gave Manny nightmares in their 2 fights yet Floyd destroyed him so arguments work both ways.

For what it is worth my opinion is Floyd will catch Manny on the way in all night long with his skill & reach advantage. Roger Mayweather is a top trainer & will have a plan for Manny,who is easy to hit. A late stoppage for me.

Fair enough mayweather may be scared and by saying this he mite be trying to psych paqcuiao out but at no point has he said he would walk away from the fight and he says himself that he'll take the test. its not a matter of him and golden boy thinking dey are boxings elite, but with a fight of this magnitude and all that money at stake wouldn't it be fair for appropriate drug testing to be carried out by the best people possible? I think pacquiao is a great fighter and isnt taking drugs, he just needs to realise that the mayweather family are very outspoken bout evry1 they face, forget the accusations its part of sport there will always be controversy...do the tests and get the fight on! And with regards to blook tests weaking pacquiao before a fight it is purely psychological it has no medical bearing on the altering the fighter's performance.

Congrats to Pacquiao and Mayweather for building the tension prior to the inevitable fight. This is publicity that Ali would have dreamed of!

It's all macho bull***t to be honest. Pacman doesn't wan't to be seen to bow down to Mayweather's demands. A Compromise will be reached and the fight will go ahead, otherwise, what was the point of FMJ coming back out of retirement?

Pacman really has no choice but to file the defamation suit. If he wins the bout people will says he's on to PEDs that can not be detected. If he loses they will say that the tests prevented him from using PEDs that's why he lost. Pacquaio should sue the Mayweathers and GBP for making these false accusations and sullying his reputation.

It seems very suspicious that Manny wants such a big window between tests. I do not buy into the argument of it weakens him. It is the same for both boxers and they are not making a substantial contribution. The actions of Manny in running away from the fight implies guilt.

why can't mayweather fight bigger and stronger boxer?

I dont know what the big deal is, Both fighter are suppose to take the test and it would also clear up any baseless rumours that have been going around about boxing or Pacquiao.

In these day and age Top athletes are subjected to olympic style testing and if it takes the biggest fight of the decade to start that in boxing then am all for it, I still do know why any top sportman would turn down the sort of money they are reported to be getting for this fight just because you dont want a blood test, It really does sound like Pacquiao is hiding something.

I originally sided with Pacquiao when this whole debacle first surfaced. I mean, who the hell is Mayweather to try and change the existing system for this one fight ?
However as the issue has escalated and both sides have taken their respective potshots, I find myself wanting Manny to just take the test and fight. From a fan's perspective I want this fight to take place, and whatever needs done to ensure that. I don't care who wins, I just want to see a great fight.

Mayweather was been difficult by asking for extra testing that boxers dont normally go through but if both fighter are going through it then i dont see a problem with it, You really cannot trust boxers these days and they would use any dirty trick just to gain an edge over their opposition, We have already seen Margarito with a loaded gloves before his fight with Mosley so no one can vouch for any boxer.

The more Pacquiao refuses the more he looks bad in public, Tennis players had to go through the strict olympic style random testing, Sprinters also have to go through them even though most of them dont like it, But with the sort of money they were suppose to make in the fight i would expect the best boxer in the world to be ready to subject himself to any test to prove he's clean as a whistle.

I was a big Pacquiao fan but now I've lost all respect for him. The comments from him, Roach and Arum make him look guilty.

It seems that the only drug testing the Pacquiao camp would be happy with is one which can easily be beaten.

In such a stamina based sport its very difficult to maintain muscle mass beyond a natural level. Mayweather's camp obviously believe that his size and strength are artificial and are confident that with random testing there is no way Pacquiao can maintain that size and weigh in near 147lbs.

Pacquiao seems to have some sort of misplaced sense of pride where he thinks by succumbing to Mayweather's blood test demands he would be losing the psychological edge; whereas in reality he's just jeopardising his reputation in the sport and enhancing former cries of drug usage.

There's simply too much money involved for either boxer to turn down. I just hope the whole rift is an elaborate publicity stunt to increase revenue, rather than a genuine problem which could potentially deny fans one of the greatest fights in boxing history.

I feel that this has all got slightly out of hand. Pac-man should take the tests if he has (and I hope) nothing to hide. Sue them all and then crush Mayweather in the ring. He's the best fighter with the best trainer, let's hope he has the best lawyers so that in the words of Mr Buffer we can get ready to rumble!!

why do champions like mayweather avoid fighting boxers that could give them trouble and bring huge crowds!! if mayweather ever fought cotto, williams etc, he would ratify his greatness! pacquiao is doing this and if mayweather fails to embark on fighting manny, he most probably will regret it!

Why would Pac agree to a drug test when its not in the rules? The Nevada commission makes the rules, and Pac said he will abide by it - bloodtest or not (whenever they feel like it). If Pac accepts Mayweather's tests, its like confirming Mayweather as the one making the rules. The Loudmouths had it their way, people began questioning Pac when none was ever reported/suspected prior to this fight. And besides, those accussations were based on what?!? Winning 7 tittles?!? Mayweather Sr's loudmouth?!? - this guy should be the one tested. You accuse someone of wrongdoing, better have proof. Pac suing is actually good as this will settle the dope issue.
As for the fight, Mayweather needs to grow some balls. All this is no more than an excuse not to fight, or if when he looses the fight. Ducking is PBF's best move - inside, and outside of the ring.

Post 49, have a look into why random drug testing is better than telling an athlete when the tests will be & you will be aware of why it has become such a talking point.

Athletes who are aware of when tests will take place can schedule their intake of subtances so that they are undetectable by the time the test comes around.

The talking of the PED´s in Manny´s case is lacking the knowledge of the PED´s in large. When to take the test etc. it´s all just baloney. I think the fight is just too big for the Floyd junior...much better for him to fight Matthew Hatton(what a sad match up that would be) and try to draw some british fans to his bandwagon. Malinaggi is a joker in this whole Pacquaio vs. maywheather case. He is just mouthing to be mentioned with the top fighters of the era...what a farce if he get´s in to mix with that. I´d like to see Khan marching over him in his next fight. perfect opponent for Amir´s US debut...poor Paulie just don´t have the pop in his punches so it would be safer for Amir as well.

Im sure you knew what random testing means. To refresh your mind in this test they will knock your door anytime even an hour before the fight. Think of it and read again my previous post.

It hasn't tarnished boxing's reputation it is just another confirmation of an existing reputation.

Post 52, where has it been stated that they would take blood up to 1 hour before the fight? The USDA have stated this wouldnt happen in case of boxers.

All, this is very simple neither Mayweather nor Pacquiao want to lose their title as pound for pound champions which I believe both can lay claim to, and before anybody poo poo's the idea and says all boxers want to prove they are the best then why has it taken 10 years for a real superfight to nearly happen when so many were out there but never happened.....Simple.....MONEY and PRIDE....Boxing is no longer a sport and hasn't been for 20 years it is a business. This fight will not happen and never was going to.

Following this story is quiet confusing. I can see that blood testing of boxers in the week leading up to a fight may cause problems for boxers as they will be pushing themselves to make their weight (know Pacman blames giving a blood sample in the days before his 2005 loss to Morales for this, his last loss). I am not aware the practicalities of using Performance enhancing drugs but would the test be compromised to any great deal if giving blood samples was banned in the week leading up to the fight if samples were giving in the hours after the fight ?(could this be a compromise ?) . Can see why Pacmans is annoyed as it looks like Mayweather is saying we need different rules for Pacman because of rumors started by Mayweathers father. Hope this is sorted out so the fight can happen.

Both camps have fair points, thats why you cant really pin blame on either and have to just blame them as a group (or more importantly boxings cheif destroyers- the promoters). Pacquiao has every right to say that hes 'scared of needles' or that the taking of blood affects his performance, just as mayweather has a right to question the validity of pacs rise almost 40 pounds in weight, we as the public can also draw suspicions from pacs mixed messages and attempts at getting out of the random tests. Firstly, if pacquiao is, as i have read, scared of needles then how is it he has been able to get tattoos, surely that doesnt make sense? Secondly, pacquiao is not taking into account (as has already been said) the fact that he was cutting weight when his blood was taken before the Morales fight and as such did not have ample time to replenish his body with the essential nutrients (for example iron, if he wasnt eating how would he get the iron into his system that would aid the transportation of oxygen needed, this would also explain his somewhat anemia like feelings). Now mayweather. Firstly, both him and his camp are not taking certain things into account, such as that pacquiao may not have gained 40 pounds of muscle, he may have alrady been cutting 15-20 pounds in his his earlier days (although this is highly unlikely as he looks much physically bigger), but also that given modern training programmes and nutrition mean that that gain is easy for manny. And given that manny seems to be a fighter that may partially embrace modern training methods this seems plausible. People may also say that pacquiao has'nt lost much in the way of speed or has in actual fact gained speed during his rise through the weightclasses, this is in my opinion down to 3 factors. 1) pacquiaos embracing of more modern training methods means that he has been able to gain weight without a loss in speed (for generations people within boxing saw weight gains as a cause of speed loss no matter the circumstances) 2) Pac's upper body does not appear that bulked (it looks good and he looks muscular simply through low bf count) his legs and in particular calves are very big, given that the legs are where the largest muscles lie this gives an idea of where the weight has come from. 3)Pac doesnt have to cut a great deal of weight (if any) to fight at welterweight or thereabouts and so his body doesnt expierience the drain sustained by some fighters, also pac lives, like mayweather, a clean life and doesnt have the weight rises and in turn drops of a Ricky Hatton, this also means that he can eat enough to fuel his training (this may also be why his endurance has seemingly increased in the past few years- because hes fighting higher up). Regarding the issue of whether or not mayweather is ducking pac or the other way around, i think that is complete rubbish, because they both seem not only hell bent on a legacy (theyre trainers are also keen for their respective fighters to be considered of the legion of true greats), but they are also both particularly interested in the money side of things. Mayweather because, well it doesnt really need explaining, he is expieriencing troubles with the taxman in the states and pacquiao simply because he gives such vast sums to various causes within the philipines (aswell as his detirmination to run for political positions which need to be funded). As too the outcome of the fight (should it happen) i believe mayweather would win, this is because he equally as quick as pacquiao, but with a better set of ring smarts particularly the defensive arts. Despite all this i think pac will always have a chance, he is after all a great fighter and deserves to be remembered amongst the best.

or


a millisecond right after the fight?

Random testing would mean blood & urine can be taken at any time in the build up to the fight but would have a safe cut off date for both fighters, you wouldnt have to tell them when the last test would be but most people concur it cant be done on the actual day of the fight.

How is that confusing?

It was always obvious that this fight would not take place without problems, didnt expect it to be drug related and Pacquiao's camp to be letting the fight down though.
In my opinion Mayweather is well aware that Manny's style of boxing will not work with his. Mayweather's approach to duck and weave and let the opponent chase him and knacker himself won't work with Manny. Somehow Manny is way too fast and too strong to let Mayweather get away from him. For Mayweather to get any kind of result from the fight he will have to hope Manny has an off day and Flloyd ducks/weaves and runs faster than he ever has before. I like Mayweather for some reason but he wont have a clue against Manny, though i hope im wrong.
This is why i believe that Flloyd came up with the drug testing agreement. He realises that if he had a 3-4 more fights with average boxers he could re-coup the money he has lost and go back into retirement unbeaten and always say that Pacquiao stopped the fight from happening thus making him the best P4P boxer ever.
Saying that there is no reason, in my opinion both boxers couldnt have firstly one test 30 days before the fight and a second test the day after. This should hopefuly accomodate recovery time for Mannie's medical problems. In my opinion we should take a look at Roach here aswell, he treats Manny like a son and Manny treats him like a father, for there to be any kind of relationship between the two where Roach knew of Manny taking anything is ridiculous and impossible.
I hope the fight goes ahead purely because it will settle a lot of arguments once and for all. And i believe Pacquiao will walk away from boxing as one of the most ridiculously gifted 'fighters' of all time.

Still have questions never been answered

people are saying manny pacquiao refusing to do random testing before the fight yet he agreed to be blood tested right after the fight so what's the difference..the mayweather camp just want to find a way out..mayweather jr have not had any intention to fight manny pacquiao at all..the manner jr anounced he wanted to fight pacquiao was very suspiciuos and intriguing..jr knew that pacquiao filed his candidacy for congress in his home country in May and thought pacquiao would refused considering that the fight is scheduled on March 13 but he or the mayweather's camp was wrong and caught offguard because pacquiao agreed and signed the contract..from one demands to another, jr just scared to fight manny no more no less...

Whatever we as boxing fans think about the current situation, or are being invited to think by some of its protagonists in particular, the critical point is this. The rules should be those laid down by the governing body under whose jurisdiction any contest will take place, most likely in this case the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

I've always believed that Pacquiao would win if he and Mayweather met in the ring and nothing I have seen in recent weeks has made me change my mind. For Mayweather and his associates to seek to make their own rules in relation to this fight tells me they are frightened to death of Pacquiao.
