Dickens in London

DickensinLondon

Tune into Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Red Button for the Omnibus edition of five short plays that mark the bi-centenary of Charles Dickens' birth.

The theme of the plays is Dickens' changing relationship with London - the city that fired his imagination.

Writer Michael Eaton has based each play on Dickens' own letters and journalism: Sketches By Boz and the articles from the journals Household Words and All The Year Round. But these short dramas are never afraid to play fast and loose with autobiographical details - as Dickens himself was wont to do.

Each play takes as its title one of Dickens' own appellations: A Not Overly-Particularly-Taken-Care-Of-Boy, Boz, The Sparkler of Albion, The Uncommercial Traveller and The Inimitable.

Dickens described London as a 'Magic Lantern spectacle'. So it is appropriate that 'Dickens in London' is part of an innovative collaboration between Film London Artists' Moving Image Network (FLAMIN), Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4 and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Drama.

  • Comment number 2.

Hi there - many thanks for showing the Welsh Open Snooker on Freeview, etc this week - really appreciated.

    Couple of things
    1. Any chance of the Welsh Open highlights shows being fitted in, even in the early hours of the morning (think they're on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ2 Wales at about 11:20 each evening)...
    2. Tomorrow it says Midweek Final Score is on, so no snooker on Freeview - couldn't snooker be on at 7pm, then Final Score could start later at 8pm? Just an idea...
    3. The snooker on Friday evening isn't on due to Cycling. Fair enough - but is it possible to have this show delayed - say at 10:05pm?
    4. The snooker on Saturday afternoon isn't on due to Final Score. The evening session already says it will be shown delayed, could both of them be shown back to back in the evening, after the cycling?

Many thanks, but once again, on behalf of all snooker fans - thank you for showing the snooker this week!
    Chris
