Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Online Industry Briefing: Sport & Children Product Update Q&A

After the product updates on Sport and Children the presenters, including myself, took to the stage to answer questions. Questions from the partners and suppliers covered a wide range of topics, including questions about scalability of our services, especially for the Olympics and Flash versus HTML5 and Applications for online games.

The panel was Phil Buckley (Product Lead, Children's), Japhet Asher (ExecutiveΜύProducer, CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ), Ben Gallop (Head, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sport Interactive and Formula 1) and myself.

    Hi Cait

    Don't you think a Q&A session like this would have been a great time to explain why a deal with Sky was made over the F1 deal from 2012 onwards when other FTA channels, such as Channel 4, were willing and able to buy the full rights to the sport? Especially since Ben Gallop was present at your Q&A session.

    Under the concorde agreement Sky was not able to bid for the rights to F1 so you were under no pressure to make a decision.

    Ben Gallop also wrote in a recent blog that this topic was "Debated and Discussed". Could you please show me and many of waiting fans where this debate took place?

    If the deal is about the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ saving money which is your underlying reason for the deal regarding F1 then why are you sending the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ F1 team out to each and every race?

    You would save far more money sending a couple of reporters out and having the rest talk from your brand new studio in Salford.

    Not sending anyone out to the races which will save enough money to invest in something else.

    Or maybe even better, dropping the whole sport in general. enabling us fans to watch each race live, which is at the end of the day what we all want.

    Finally when will the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ admit it has spent to much money on the new studio in Salford and on the Olympics and therefore had no more money to spend on anything else.

    The way the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has handled the affair regarding F1 is truely shocking and dishonest towards the fans which in all honesty, pay for the sports and for your wages.

    F1 has been a multiple Bafta winning, 400 Million annual viewed event which i and many other believe is money well spent.
