Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms 2010
This Proms season Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Red Button brings a variety of new ways to watch and listen to this mainstay of the classical music season with a selection of services available alongside the regular broadcasts.
Player Commentary
In a first for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms this year we're introducing Player Com , an interactive feature giving viewers a new perspective on the Proms from the musicians themselves. By pressing the red button during the performance viewers can listen to live commentary from two or more orchestral players and hear their unique insights into the music as the work is played.
The service will be available for four Proms, starting with commentary for First Night of the Proms from Violinist Nicole Wilson, composer, conductor and choral director Ron Corp, and trumpeter Alistair Mackie.
Beethoven: Maestro Cam & Commentary
Everyone's heard of Beethoven... and now, during the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Four Beethoven Piano Concertos on 23rd July, viewers can press the red button to watch Maestro Cam and see Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Symphony Orchestra chief conductor JirΓ BelohlΓ΅vek bring the master's music to life! We also invite you to stimulate your stave cells with expert commentary on the performance from conductor Matthew Rowe.
And if that weren't enough, Sky and Virgin customers will have the extra option of watching a Solo Cam of one of today's leading Beethoven interpreters, pianist Paul Lewis.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Films - Red Button Shorts
On the weekend of 17th/18th July Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Two is celebrating
the work of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Films, and we're joining in the celebrations by showing
two short films exclusively on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Red Button. The films have been produced
by the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ as part of schemes involving the UK Film Council and independent
production companies and highlight our role in UK film production and developing
talent.
Pop Art is a charming comic drama starring Bill Milner as a grieving boy who befriends a new classmate - who just happens to be made out of inflatable rubber. Press the red button at the conclusion of Is Anybody There? on Saturday 17th (also starring the precocious young Milner) to catch this quirky short co-produced by the UK Film Council.
The following night, Trimming the Fat is available under your red button after Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Two's screening of The Damned United. This hilarious comedy stars Mathew Horne (GavinΜύand Stacey)Μύas a travelling businessman who bumps into a disreputable school-friend (Tony Way) before an important meeting at a motorway hotel. This short was produced as part of a scheme involving Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Comedy and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Film Network to identify up-and-coming comedy talent.
Look out for more short films on the red button during future Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Films screenings on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Two.

Dragons' Den
The Dragons are back for an eighth series and
for the first time viewers will be able to press their red buttons to venture
a little deeper into the Den. Find out why the Dragons chose to invest and
discover how the entrepreneurs feel once they've escaped the rigours of
their trial by fire. With behind the scenes footage and insights from all
five Dragons the access-all-areas Red Button shows are a must for fans of
the series.

be putting the products pitched each week through their paces. A new business
section offers a glossary of terms that link through to relevant pitches
from across the series and we also have latest updates from some of the

the regular comprehensive coverage of each week's main pitches.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Red Button welcomes younger viewers and grown-ups
with a sense of adventure to the big, bright and fun world of CBeebies interactive!
Now your children's favourite characters are at the heart of the interactive
TV experience. A big, new and bright carousel now greets visitors providing
easy access to games, other children's interactive services such as karaoke
or quizzes, birthdays and star of the week messages.
Different Games
Reflecting the popularity of games for the young audience, a new range of
activities has been specially created. The updated service brings with it
brand new games for some of the most popular shows on CBeebies, including
In the Night Garden and The Green Balloon Club. These new
games replace the old ones, which had become increasingly outdated.
Satellite and digital terrestrial viewers will have slightly different offerings from one another. This has enabled us to offer the best games tailored to each system.

F1 fans can customise their viewing experience via the red button with access
to all on-track sessions including Friday and Saturday practice and qualifying
with re-runs of classic GPs also available in the build-up to the main event.
On race day itself a choice of three streams will be available featuring
split-screen in-car camera feeds, leaderboards and rolling highlights, with
the option to listen to either network or Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 5 Live commentary. After
the end of each race on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One there will be an additional interactive
programme analysing the weekend's events and picking up views from the paddock
with race highlights often available the following day.

Also a shame these blogs seem to have just become posts now with replies to perfectly valid questions ignored. It's about time one of you blogged on what the situation is with Freesat for example considering a couple of years ago we were told that in the months after the Olympics it would get a service comparable to Sky's.
And similarly we all know the situation with Freeview and all despise it (even you I suspect), but would be good to know now how exactly the decisions are made as to what takes priority on the stream as there have been some rather questionable ones of late, notably a simulcast of a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ1 Lottery show whilst live Wimbledon coverage and live Glastonbury coverage was available on Sky.

Who is supposed to benefit from this? What tiny minority of viewers are going to be switched on to the "Red Button" by the promise of watching a short film AFTER watching a long film? Or... on Saturday they can just let their apparently technophobic arms rest on their cushions and watch HIGNFY or on Sunday, having watched the superb Michael Sheen in a film about Brian Clough, they can either dabble with the mysterious "Red Button" to watch a random short, or stay with Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ2 and watch a... Brian Clough documentary. Anyone willing to put money on what's more likely?
I better be able to watch these shorts on iPlayer or I swear I am going to have an epic hissy fit.
Channel Four has/had the right idea about shorts though it's been a while since I saw one of their mini-seasons, running up to a couple of hours of short films back to back at night. Short films, like short stories, are at once harder to pull off but immediately more satisfying than longer films if the creators get it right. And if they don't, there's the five minute skip-ahead button - another joy of not watching live TV.

KyleRickards - at the moment the work to add the non-sport video services to Freesat hasn't been added into our workplans. We are only a small team and that means we have to make some difficult decisions on choosing projects - our managing editor John Denton wrote about the prioritisation process on the Press Red Blog. We have done a lot of work on Freesat over the last twelve months, including adding Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ iPlayer. If you have a Freesat HD device and broadband, you can connect them up to see the fruits of our labours.
