At the end of last week Seetha Kumar wrote on the blog about the series of site MOTs she's introduced since becoming Controller of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Online and invited people to comment on h2g2 which is being reviewed tomorrow. To date we have over 100 insightful comments about h2g2 which is fantastic. Expect news on feedback soon.
It's an old post from November 2008 (Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ HD: Picture Quality and Dolby Research) but regular blog contributor Andy Quested (aka "Mr HD") has been replying to some recent comments about HD quality, encoders, fades and the like. Essential reading for all HD aficionados or anyone worried about "obvious blocking on crowd pans".
At dot.life Maggie Shiels asks "Has Twitter's popularity peaked?" From comments in previous months I know that some of you will be hoping that the answer is a resounding "Yes!"
is a YouTube video that uses data to portray the rapid Islamification of Europe and the United States. Radio 4's made a video in response that's posted on the Radio 4 Blog. Series editor Richard Knight says on the blog:
"So how reliable are the statistics in the 'Muslim Demographics' video? The short answer is: not very. But the long answer is more interesting, because the video is mix of the right, the wrong and the unknowable."
You can now use pound signs, quotation marks and other 'mixed characters' when making comments on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ blogs. Not a big thing but another step in the right direction.

The one outstanding issue/subject that many would like dealt with is - wait for it - an up-date on the continuing saga of the UK vs. International version of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ news website and the IP 'sniffing' problems (never mind problems with differences in content or editorial 'feel'), follow-up replies to the last blog seems to have been abandoned...

I would like the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ internet blog to cover 1080p50. Especially, when Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ productions will be taped at 1080p50 and when Freeview HD boxes will be on sale capable of decoding 1080p50.
I would also like the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ internet blog to cover more about Eurovision and when the ESC, as one of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's biggest watched TV programmes, will be available to buy on Blu-ray in high definition 50i(all recent years).

I would also like the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ blog to cover some of the things in the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's research white paper on High Frame Rate television:
And to give us estimates of when we might get broadcasts of high frame rate television (ie. >=100fps).

#3 Don't have a response to the first part as yet. Looking at the schedules it doesn't look like Eurovision was broadcast in HD. I've looked at the Eurovision website and this year's is available on three DVDs but there is no mention of Blu-ray. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Executive Producer for ESC is on leave but hopefully I'll find out more on his return. Regretfully conversations I've had here leads me to believe it's not actually shot in HD though...
#5 Looks like a good subject for the blog. Now to find someone to write a post on it...

As one of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's biggest watched programmes with a budget of millions of pounds, I don't see why there isn't budget for a BD release.

Oh boy, I appreciate that the powers that be are still developing the site, but to be constantly frustrated by not being able to sign in, is driving me nuts.
Today for example, I go to the log in site & the cursor keeps jumping back to the beginning of the 'user name' section, thus I am unable to sign in at all today.
When I could get in there yesterday...after ages of twirling, twirling, twirling...waiting for the page to load...then each page took forever to upload.

"The release of the ESC on DVD etc is totally down to the European Broadcasting Union.
The contest has been shot in HD for the last two years. We transmit the two Semi Finals on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ 3 in SD but the Final was shown in HD in 2008 and 2009."

Isn't the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ PART of the EBU though? And isn't the the UK one of the top 4 contributors to the cost of the contest? But the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ, as part of the EBU, has no say in whether a BD is released? So am I best emailing the EBU about this? What do you recommend I do/say? I emailed them a long time ago (a long time before the contest) asking whether the 2009 one would be released on BD and I their DVD/CD producing company (CMC) basically said that there wasn't enough interest by the public of a BD of the contest. How can I show them that there is enough interest? And if that company (CMC) doesn't want to produce the BDs couldn't another company instead - for instance Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide? What do you think is the best thing I can do to try to get them released?
