On Saturday, gets underway, withÌýnew programmes made available on the station every day. As someone who has worked on CBeebies Radio for under six-year olds, I wanted to use this post to explain the thinking behind it and introduce some of the great programmes our young listeners will get to hear. We also want to make sure that you make the most of what CBeebies Radio has to offer you and your family.Ìý

CBeebies Radio is aÌýbrilliant and enjoyable way to help engage children with the sounds and world around them. Good listening and communication skills are an essential part of everyday life. The online service helps introduce some of those skills in a fun way.

Listening has many advantages. It encourages children to use theirÌýimagination (just look at their faces as they build pictures in their mind’s eye) and get used to the idea of not having to stare at a screen.ÌýÌý Not only that,Ìýlistening allows you and your child to do other activities while you listen. Downloading our free podcasts onto your MP3 player & other devices means you can take CBeebies Radio with you wherever you go, makingÌýit ideal for car journeys, bedtimes or even in the garden.

Developing good listening is also a great way to help with your child’s concentration and comprehension skillsÌýwhich isÌýreally useful when your little one moves on to school. My team spend much of their time out and about recording with children in schools, nurseries and play groups up and down the country.Ìý CBeebies Radio as a whole provides a voice for children to contribute to what is essentially their very own radio station. I love it when we work with children and hear their views on the world around them. That makes CBeebies Radio unique.

Our presenters and characters also talk directly to the listener and elicit interactive responses, be that through joining in with quizzes, games, music or stories.

During CBeebies Radio Week, which starts on Saturday 24thÌýMay 2014, you’ll also notice a new look to the CBeebies home page, directing you to CBeebies Radio. Also, make sure you keep an eye out for the presenters on TV who will be telling you and your children more about the CBeebies Radio shows that complement CBeebies on television and online. We’ve got some real treats in store including free downloads from Sarah & Duck, Tree Fu Tom, Old Jack’s Boat and Rastamouse. There’ll be loads more shows available for download on the CBeebies Radio page. ÌýÌý

If you haven’t already listened to CBeebies Radio, give it a go and tell us what you like about it. Leave your comments below - we’re really keen to get your feedback and especially to hear what your little ones think!ÌýÌý
