Digital Content Producer, About the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ

Earlier today (Thursday 17 March) we learnt of the sad death of Paul Daniels at the age of 77.

Acting Director of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Television, Mark Linsey said of the magician "Paul was an outstanding showman and one of the great entertainers of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Television".

Daniels made his TV debut on Opportunity Knocks in 1970 at the age of 32 and started his career with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ some eight or nine years later. In tribute to the star of '80s Saturday night TV, we have taken a look back in pictures at Paul Daniels' work at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.

In 1979 Daniels fronted his own Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ series, following on from the ensemble show 'For My Next Trick'

'The Paul Daniels Magic Show' ran for 15 years from 1979 to 1994 and involved innovative tricks, top flight acts and some other unorthodox guests

In 1987 the show included a recreation of a Harry Houdini trick that appeared to go wrong, suggesting that Daniels may have been injured or worse. He emerged alive and well in between programmes later that evening, after viewers called the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ concerned for the magicians welfare

Daniels was assisted on the show by 'the lovely Debbie McGee' whom he married in 1988

Alongside his primetime magic show, Daniels also hosted a number of successful quiz shows for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ including 'Odd One Out' from 1982-85

He also presented 'Every Second Counts' (pictured) from 1986-93 and 'Wipeout' from 1994-97. He also hosted the one off programme 'QED: The Magic of Memory with Paul Daniels' in 1988

Daniels co-created and starred in children's programme 'Wizbit'. Here he is pictured with two of the characters (Wooly the rabbit and Wizbit) and children's TV favourites Peter Duncan (far left) and Phillip Schofield (far right)

Daniels and McGee let Louis Theroux (right) film their private life for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ documentary 'When Louis Met...Paul and Debbie' in 2001

Paul Daniels last visit to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ was in Series 8 of 'Strictly Come Dancing' in 2010 where he was partnered with Ola Jordan, here they are dancing the Foxtrot
