The River Conwy in North Wales flows through Snowdonia. In the past, the valleys of Snowdonia were carved out by vast ice sheets. Today, flowing water shapes the landscape. Freeze-thaw weathering creates scree slopes and the energy from rivers erodes the ground. Further downstream deposition takes place and, over time, the landscape becomes transformed. Conduct a field visit to a local river and look for features mentioned in the clip. Students should consider how each feature was formed, by erosion or deposition, by water or another factor. While watching the clip, students could note some of the key features or processes mentioned, then produce their own annotated diagrams explaining them.
