Origins of the abolitionist movement

Description

Thanks to the slave trade, Britain grew wealthy and powerful, so why after centuries of making money would the country turn against slavery?

Classroom Ideas

Students could discuss the point of view of different sides of the abolition debate. Produce a spectrum of opinion for different dates, based on how pro or anti-slavery Britain was at that time. Gives examples of opinion and evidence for them on sticky notes and place these at appropriate places on the spectrum.
