Viruses and malware

Description

There are two types of malware: viruses and worms. Viruses embed in software without consent and infect the computer when the software is opened. A worm spreads itself through a network to affect other devices. When a device doesn’t work at all due to malware, that device is said to be ‘bricked’. To avoid viruses and worms, anti-virus and anti-malware software should be installed and caution should be taken when downloading apps, software and updates.

Classroom Ideas

The class could share any personal experiences of computer viruses or worms. They could describe what happened to the device, what they think the virus was caused by and what they or their parents did to resolve the problem. They could draw a diagram of different viruses and how they infect and spread through a device.
