Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha is a novel by Roddy Doyle. It is written from the point of view of a young boy, Paddy (Patrick) Clarke. It is set in Barrytown, a fictional area of Dublin in which Doyle sets many of his novels.

Part 7

Paddy’s father comes home drunk. This is something Paddy has never seen before.

As things get worse in the house Paddy tries to be kinder to Sinbad. He imagines what life would be like if his father died.

Paddy becomes fascinated with Charles Leavy, a streetwise boy from the Corporation houses.

He tries to befriend Charles, truanting school and copying his smoking.

Paddy fights with Kevin and falls out with him. Paddy’s gang turn against him.

Paddy’s father leaves and Paddy becomes “the man of the house”.
