Impact of problem solving on performance

Consider a golfer who is on the green getting ready to putt. The shape of the land on each green is different. Some slope to the right, others slope to the left. Some require putting up an incline whilst some are flat.

The golfer has to work out the shape of the green in relation to the position of their ball and the position of the hole. By doing this they can understand what they have to do next in relation to their putt.

Question

Using the 3-step process, how might problem solving impact performance when facing a tricky putt in golf?
