Immediate future with pronouns and reflexives

Object pronouns

Object pronouns in Spanish go before the verb, eg lo hago (I do it). When using object pronouns with the immediate future tense, they can either go before the present tense of ir, eg lo voy a hacer (I am going to do it) or they can be added to the infinitive, eg voy a hacerlo.

For example:

  • Les voy a escribir/voy a escribirles (I am going to write to them)
  • Daniel me va a invitar a la fiesta/Daniel va a invitarme a la fiesta (Daniel is going to invite me to the party)

Question

Replace the nouns in bold with the object pronoun.

  1. Mi hermano va a comprar el móvil (lo).
  2. Voy a mandar un email a mi amigo (le).
  3. Vamos a beber la limonada (la).
  4. Mi amigo va a hacer las maletas (las).

Reflexive verbs

All reflexive verbs have the reflexive pronoun -se at the end of the infinitive, eg despertarse (to wake up). For the immediate future, use the reflexive pronouns (me, te, se, nos, os, se) with the correct person of the verb (ie who is doing the action).

The pronoun can either be attached to the infinitive or placed before the verb - both are correct.

For example:

  • Voy a levantarme temprano (I am going to get up early) or Me voy a levantar temprano
  • Mi hermano va a ducharse primero (My brother is going to shower first) or Mi hermano se va a duchar primero
  • Vamos a casarnos en el futuro (We are going to get married in the future) or Nos vamos a casar en el futuro

Question

Add the correct reflexive pronoun to the infinitives.

  1. ¿Vosotros vais a vestir_____?
  2. Mis padres van a enfadar_____ conmigo.
  3. Nico, ¿vas a acostar_____ ahora?
  4. Voy a cepillar_____ los dientes.
