Demonstrative pronouns

are used instead of a to avoid repeating it, eg ¿Que libro te gusta? (Which book do you like?) could be answered with the demonstrative pronoun este (this one).

The forms esto, eso and aquello can be used for a general idea, eg esto me parece fascinante (this seems fascinating to me), eso no me interesa (that doesn't interest me).
