2006 marks the 40th anniversary of Haile Selassie's historic visit to Jamaica.

Robbo Ranx takes an in-depth look at the last Emperor of Ethiopia's impact on five generations of music makers.

Featuring contributions from Luciano, Damian Marley, Sizzla, Buju Banton, Brinsley Forde, Capleton and Burning Spear, Hail the King explores the importance and relevance of Haile Selassie on reggae music today.

Haile Selassie facts:

  • Born Tafari Makonnenin on 23rd July 1892.
  • Believed to be a direct descendent of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba.
  • Last Emperor of Ethiopia.
  • Ruled Ethiopia from 1930 - 1974.
  • Abolished Slavery in Ethiopia.
  • Rastafarians regard him as God incarnate, "King of kings, lord of lords, conquering lion of the Tribe of Judah".
  • Visited Jamaica on the 21st April 1966.
  • Died 27th August 1975.
