Andrew Davies has an incredible list of screenwriting credits including War and Peace, House of Cards, Pride and Prejudice, Vanity Fair, A Very Peculiar Practice, Bleak House, Little Dorrit, The Line of Beauty, Tipping the Velvet, South Riding, Mr Selfridge and many many more.
We spoke to him at our first Welsh Writers Festival in Cardiff in March 2017. He explains that even for him his journey to being able to call himself a writer took several years of writing alongside teaching.
The advice he gives includes top tips for writing adaptations. He also describes his favourite part of the writing process and deals with the accusation that he 'sexes up' the classics.
