Liverpool’s Royal Court - Stage Write Nights

Ongoing new writing nights

Liverpool's Royal Court

is committed to developing new writing and new writers, with all of their main house output having been new writing since 2017. Stage Write is a regular, new writing night that runs year round and they are looking for scripts. Excerpts of several pieces are chosen to be performed by professional actors, working with a professional director.

Please consider our current criteria, unfortunately if your piece does not meet these criteria we will not be able to read and respond.

  • • Pieces must be full length, a minimum of 70 minutes.
  • • Writers must be resident in the UK and over 18.
  • • Pieces must be written for theatre, we cannot accept screenplays or pieces written for radio.
  • • Formatting must include a title page with the title and writer’s name, a character list and page numbers.
  • • Cast size should be no more than 8.
  • • We are currently looking for contemporary comedies or comedy-dramas. At present we will not be able to accept dark or hard-hitting dramas, although this may change in the future.

There is no payment to writers but those whose scripts are selected will receive feedback on their scripts and be able to work with the director and cast on the excerpt that will be performed.

If you have a script that fits the bill then simply email it to stagewrite@liverpoolsroyalcourt.com including your contact details.
