Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Service Short Story Competition 2005

Would you like to be a writer ?
Could you write a short story for radio ?
Would you like to hear your story read out for the world to hear?

If so, enter the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Service Short Story Competition 2005.

Conditions of Entry:

• Write a short story, in English, between 1800 and 2100 words long.
• Your story must be original. (You should state that it is your own work.)
• It must be previously unpublished or not otherwise publicly distributed, and clearly typed.
• It should be written for reading aloud on the radio.
• You can only submit one entry.
• You MUST keep a copy because we will not be able to return your manuscript.

Don't forget to enclose your name and postal address, with e-mail address and telephone number if you have them.

The prize is to have your story read on the radio by an actor, having been selected by a panel of judges comprising three leading short story writers.

The competition is not open to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ employees or their immediate family members.

By entering the competition, entrants grant the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ the right to record the work and broadcast it as many times as the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ wishes within seven days of the first transmission and to place the text of the story on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ website (located at http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice) for a period of one year from its initial transmission without payment.

Entries must not defame any living person or corporate body nor infringe or breach any rights of copyright.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ reserves the right to edit or adapt the winning entries if necessary. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ would expect that winning entrants will collaborate and assist with such adaptations if required to do so.

This competition shall be deemed to have been held in the United Kingdom, and shall be governed exclusively by English law.

The closing date is midnight on 30 June 2005. No stories will be accepted after that date. Don't leave it till the last minute, send us your story as soon as you can.

Provided the entries are of a sufficiently high standard, the judges will select five or more winning stories to be read out on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Service from December 2005.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
