Film critic Alynda Wheat reviews this highly anticipated new film from Tyler Perry, one of Hollywood's most powerful directors.

The cast features many of Hollywood's leading African-American actresses such as Thandie Newton, Whoopi Goldberg and Janet Jackson. Based on the seminal play from 1975 by Ntozake Shange, the film follows 7 black women who are all dealing with a different personal conflict such as rape, infidelity and abortion.

The best of the global arts scene, daily.
