Drier and warmer weather on the way?

Despite speculation that this summer might be as wet or wetter than last summer, there are signs of a settled spell on the horizon.

The last few days of May and the start of June could bring some much-needed quieter weather, with light winds and sunshine for some as high pressure builds in from the west.

But with the high pressure centre sitting to the west of Ireland, winds will be coming down from the north or north-west - always a cooler direction. So, do not expect a heatwave.

However, with sunny spells and light winds, and factoring in how strong the sunshine is at this time of year, it should feel pleasant with temperatures a little above the average for the time of year.

The position of this area of high pressure by the end of the week will determine how much sunshine and cloud cover we can expect to see. There is a chance that conditions may become rather cloudy for many, in which case it might not feel quite as warm.

This area of high pressure may then decline during the first week of June allowing low pressure to make a return.

As ever, forecasting this far out brings a lot of uncertainty, so keep in touch with your daily forecast on the Â鶹ԼÅÄ weather website or on our app.
